“Gly”: Hello everyone! We were in this mine nearly six hours during filming so if you’d like to see all the “behind the scenes” footage go here to Abandoned & Forgotten Footage: th-cam.com/video/QNa4Qnca7ug/w-d-xo.html
I feel like there should be another way in if your feeling air... maybe you could attach a note on the rope and send it back down and you could look for your note :)
I dunno about crazy, but most guys Mr M's age are puttering around building birdhouses in their workshop for entertainment, not climbing into deep holes in the ground :). I'm impressed with everyone involved :)
A good pair of ascenders connected to foot loops would let you climb out of that hole without having to scramble for purchase on the loose rock. Fascinating and fun adventure, thanks for taking us along.
I've seen people attach GoPros to telescoping poles for underwater shots. Like a mega selfie stick. 😂 Maybe something like that would be light enough to bring into a mine and stable enough that you could lower it into unsafe spaces without too much image distortion from shaking or spinning?
As someone who did a lot of mine exploration back in the 1970s, I can tell you: these are memories you will treasure for the rest of your life....(if you survive, of course) hee hee hee! In this case, discretion was definitely the better part of valor...
So I’ve been a subscriber for a couple of weeks now. I’m up to around 27 watching from the beginning and I’ve skipped around some also. When you watch that many videos you become emotionally attached (at least I have) to the person or persons you are watching. I’ll say thank you for taking us along with you and thank you for being able to see where there needs to be a cutoff to what you are doing. I and I’m sure all of your subs do not want you to endanger yourself for the channel. Stay safe Sirs.
Guy, you need two Jamar ascenders with foot loops tied to each ascended. When climbing a rope, a weight needs to be at the bottom of the rope. You raise one ascended, then step on that loop. Then you raise the other ascended, and step on the second ascender's foot loop. You keep alternating raising the jumars and loops and climb the rope like stairs.
love how normally you wouldn't always dig though mess to get to a place, but now your going after a possible person/s you bring a saw with you to help you get at the problem. Very brave of you Gly! I hope you stay a carful and brave individual to the last.
I would be perfect for that. As long as you could pull me back through the hole. I only weigh in at 120lbs. And I have been crawling in and out of mines like this most of my adult life. My wife would kill me for even getting involved... And I live all the way in Florida now. I'm not scared of doing stuff like that at all. Matter of fact, I am the only person in my family that can fit under my 80 year old house. I spent so much time under there doing new plumbing and electrical. I promise you I could fit down there into that hole.
I feel ya gly.. when i was a kid a one of my friends hung her self under a bridge with a phone cord.. she was a tall girl and when we explored the bridge she died under it was only about 6 ft from the ground.. i have allways been dismayed by that realization that she hung herself successfully while her feet could touch the ground . I really dont know how she did it.. But why is another story .. her parents were very strict.. i was told that her sister allso did that same thing in the attic of the house the family moved to.. very very sad.. it is horrible what some parenting styles can cause .. love and understanding is everything and without it there is no telling what might happen..
WOW! Crazy is as crazy does I suppose. Lots of work to get down that mine, but Thank You being our "legs" as you took us along for this ride, Gly! And another thank you to Mr. M and Randy for being is the back up so every one of you get back out, dirty and dusty, but safe and sound. Love this show. I was a bit freaked out since my phone wasn't working for a few days and missed it until today. Love all you fellows. Keep up the good work, stay safe.
That’s where the original phrase “you can take this job and shovel it” comes from. Ha! Thanks for the wonderful videos! You three are funny together! Stay safe!!
Boy us Germans just don't quit. Stubborn, yes and har headed. Thanks Gly for all the effort and yes that was crazy. Big guy little hole, no way. It's a deep hole for sure. Take care and be kind to one another.
Ask a rock climber ... they have those sling ladders they can nail to the rocks ... add some feet of rope and fasten it somewhere above the hole ... so you'll have a ladder you can step on to get up the last 2 yards. On the other hand, as you said, the miners obviously tried to block of the debris from the upper workings so they can work below. So there must be some other entrance somewhere - why not try to find that? And so that you don't miss the little hole in the ceiling, just tie something to the end of a brightly coloured nylon rope, drop it through the hole and then explore the other shafts and addits. Oh, wait ...
Love your videos! The quality is amazing! I finally figured out how to watch them on my 72" TV. WOW! I can practically count the hairs on your chin 😋. Great stuff!
The cinematography, narration and level of your videos is outstanding. And to think how Hollywood spends millions producing cinema. You guys have got it down! Keep it coming, please!
Gly, as someone that has experience with harnesses, might I suggest the next time you decide to stick your head in a hole like that at that angle with lose rocks supporting you. You Tie Off. I had a friend I worked with and he lost is life because he didn't Tie Off. (Tying yourself down as a backup support.) Just watching out for ya buddy.
At 12:48, that was just a small effort (taste) of what the miners would do w/ a pick & shovel, ofcourse no sawzal! 13:52, mystery was almost solved when Gly's camera equip. almost slid into the hole. Wow! that was a close one! At 22:38, like you said, the rope is hooked off on something and you are right about being unable to hoist yourself back up without an assist. Well, you sure gave that rope pulling all you had left of your energy. Now we all know whats beyond the "hole" with the "yellow rope". Thank you!
I really enjoy your work, keep it up! I have 2 suggestions: 1) bring one of those emergency fire escape ladders with metal rungs and chain or cable sides. You could secure it on rock outcrops, strong timbers, or w piton's or rock bolts. 2) The guy on My Ghost Town has a skinny young rock climber who sometimes leads the way into tight or deep places, and doesn't steal the show. You could make contacts with some as assets. Thanks for your creative and well-known bed entertainment.
Somewhat disappointed not to get to the bottom, but first and foremost is everyone's safety good call. You'll survive to explore many more mines. Thank you for taking us along!!!
Hi Gly, that metal could have been a treasure box of gold nuggets the miners stowed down there for safe keeping lol. A very interesting set of episodes though that's for sure. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx 💞

If it's metal it's obviously a dead night in armour, yellow rope was used by them for many years . Shame you couldn't get the answer today, but thank you all very much indeed for your efforts. Stay safe everyone. Best wishes from me in the UK.
Gly I understand why you didn't go any further but it makes me wonder if someone went down there and couldn't get back out like you was talking about not having enough strength to pull their self back up. There still could be a body down there?
Great show! And after watching all AFP's shows multiple times, and following weekly about 1 and 1/2+.years; thoroughly enjoying each... To Randy Mr M and gly you guys are funny you should be the three- mine Stooges. Anyway it was a great episode I like to see a good caver or miner go down and find out what's on the yellow rope. 😄

It's not just the small size, an object coming up through the hole will hit the ceiling within a few inches. So hoisting yourself straight up though it is impossible. I love how prepared you are on your explorations. Bringing the saw with you was genius. I was still worried you would somehow fall into the hole like the camera almost did. Glad you guys made it out safe and sound. It was a good decision not to try to get through that small hole - true it would have been awesome to see what was down there, but not at the risk of your life. I look forwards to the episodes each week. I often have to watch the show a little at a time as you are going down steep stuff - my anxiety for you guys grows too much to bear. You three are a good team. You got a couple of characters who make this channel fun - take care of them and yourself Gly and looking forwards to next week's adventure.
Another great video Gly. Had a crappy day at work, but you pulled the day out for me. Moved a bit closer to the end of the yellow rope. Maybe another try next year. Who knows? Keep on keeping on guys. (Irish squirrel)
nothing like a Mystery in a mine ....it will drive ya mad until you figure it out ... .....digging underground ...welcome to our World....nice save ....would use a Battery powered Hammer drill to widen it out ....good job my friend ....know your limitations ....we know it will always be in the back of your mind ....we will give that a go my friend ...Slim can fit in there no problem.
Would have probably been a good idea to bring a mini version of the Schnozzelator with a wheel on the end so the rope would be pulled up the center of that shaft rather than snagging on things at the side ...
Its good to know you and Frank still talk, both you guys have a huge set. Lol. You look like your feeling much better , hope you've got your blood pressure straightened out!!
Wow Gly you REALLY wanted to know where that yellow rope went! Never seen you use a saw before! That mine just keeps going though - you got to wonder where it goes and whats down there! Wonder if some kind of rope ladder at the top could be rigged up to help someone back up through the hole. The only thing I know is that it wouldn’t be me going through that hole - not in a million years 😂 Thanks for yet another great episode
I Also was raised in Wisconsin. Born in Lacrosse and raised in Baraboo I now live in Black River Falls. But in the 80s and 90s l lived in California and did a lot of mining. I'm retired now and back in Wisconsin. I love your show it takes me back. What part of Wisconsin did you come from? I also did a lot of mine exploring before TH-cam and I wish I was younger and in better condition and could make a living doing it now.
I see mine explorers have the same kinds of obsessions as commercial divers. I always love to find other flavors of the, "Dope on a rope" they usually have a similar sense of humor!
In your drone shots you can really see how the town nearby, Goldfield, NV used to be huge! But look at it on Google Street and it is a near-ghost town now, from 20,000 population to like 300 now.
The ghost of the yellow rope was not willing to expose the secret! You are lucky Gly the ghost didn't pull you down. You were warned, yet you returned! Whoever buys the piece you cut off better have it blessed by a priest...just in case the ghost that touched you wants his rope back. What an adventure!
You should ask Brent Underwood from ghost town living. He is super tiny and I’m sure he would fit or his exploring buddy. I still am hoping that you get with Brent Underwood. Loved this😀

😴😴😴 I want to see you actually try and achieve that drop come on now or bring someone with you who can ..... need to be a risk taker to get top subs 🤔
I feel like there should be another way in if your feeling air... maybe you could attach a note on the rope and send it back down and you could look for your note :)
shoulda had a short ass like me wid ya. id fit downs there n bak ups if u pull rope lol
but i stuk in boring uk smhj
Would it be possible for you to teach someone how to do this and the safety requirements?

Nice try in solving the mystery rope! Keep up the great work guys.
There are three skeletons at the bottom. Written on the wall in carbide, "Gly, Mr M & Randy 1921"
Wow that false floor was terrifying! Watching this video gave me heebie-jeebies.
Starts at around 2:46 (ish)
(You're welcome 👍😊)
Can't wait until Part 3 of the Yellow Rope saga where either Gly figures out how to do it or finds somebody even crazier than him to go down there!
I'm sorry Gly. I hope for better thoughts and less memories.
You should ask Brent Underwood from ghost town living. He is super tiny and I’m sure he would fit or his exploring buddy. I still am hoping that you get with Brent Underwood. Loved this😀
Well Mr M when you met Gly you could have walked! No, ran away when he mentioned the words mine exploration! Lol
Awesome! Glad you listened to your conscience!
