On Monday February 7,1966 55 years ago the residents of Selby Flats CA, moved to a new town called Springfield; Dr. Jim Frazier hospital administrator offered his war buddy Dr. Paul Fletcher chief of staff position at Cedars Hospital branch in Springfield; Paul, Jane, Robin, and Johnny moved to Springfield; Dr. Stephen Jackson chief of surgery and two of his interns joined the staff at Cedars are Dr. Ed Bauer and Dr. Joe Werner both graduated from Springfield university medical school😀👍🏿🏥
Edwyn, NO NEED to apologize for the audio/video quality! I think these are freaking awesome! So cool! My mother watched the CBS soaps probably from the 1950's on and I remember The Guiding Light from the 1970's because of her. Interesting to see the history, back storylines from some of the characters I very well remember. Love the nostalgia. Again, thank you, thank you! I really enjoyed!
I sure did. They were also incidents of Boom Microphones seen overhead in several episodes. But the guy walking across the room in the scene with Maggie entering the house...OOPS!
On Feburary 19th on a Live Telecast on Eastenders in 2015 Jane Beale (played by Laurie Brett) told her Husband Ian that she killed his daughter Lucy. He screamed her to "Go! Go!" and she ran out, she almost broke up laughing but maintained her composure. It was also the show's 30th anniversary.
If you think that was hilarious think of what happened on February 19th 2015 where the UK Soap Nation found out who killed Lucy Beale on Eastenders. Laurie Brett who played Jane admitted to her Husband that she killed Lucy. He screamed at her to "Go! Go!" and she did and almost lost her composure but she was able to continue the scene.
I'm not sure but Lynne Adams was in a Documentary called Forbidden Love The Unashamed Stories Of Lesbian Lives, a 1991 Canadian Documentary which had a mini movie based on the Pulp Fiction Type Books. She plays a character named Mitch who introduces herself to a Woman named Laura Landon who left her Canadian Prairie Town for the big city who went to a Lesbian Bar for the first time. Robert Gentry was quite a "Jerk" on All My Children, who did the equivalent of sexual harassment to the actor who played young charlie brent (the Son of Phillip & Tara).
James Sullivan if you can find episodes of the late sixties that would be grand. Or even episodes from 1960 through 1965. More episodes with the character Dr.Paul Fletcher
@@kbobdonahue1966Same here!😊 Another heavy Father/Son conversation was on Coronation Street in 1981 approximately when Peter Barlow had a heart to heart talk with his Father Ken about walking his Fraternal Twin Sister down the aisle to his archrival Michael Baldwin (not the y & r one). Peter reminded Ken that he wasn't there for them growing up, he couldn't handle being a single widowed parent (it was the 1970's), they only saw him from time to time and he sent money only when he could afford it. He gave Susan away who would die in a Car Accident. Sadly Ed would follow in his Father's Footsteps as an alcoholic and his niece Hope.
It stands to reason why Leslie always referred to Ed as "Anti-Marriage." Ed saw his parents go through marriage difficulties. His brother go through it. And he, after giving in, would go through it 3 times. He lost Leslie to his brother, Mike because of his drinking. He lost second wife, Holly due to her affair with nemesis, Roger Thorpe while still married to him. And lost third wife, Rita to an affair with her ex-boyfriend, and his colleague at Cedars, Dr. Greg Fairbanks. And when he finally, finally found love and a stable marriage to sweet Moreen Reardon Bauer, she died. Poor Ed. SMH.
Remember Hillary Edson? I don't remember her characters name but she fell in live with Ed after Maureen died. Later on she got sick and died too. I believe Ed went to Africa to finish her work.
@@sheriheffner2098 I believe her character's name was Eve! Didn't GL writers make her manipulative and evil at one point? Did they end attributing her changed personality to a brain tumor or some other illness?
Ok, just consulted "Who's Who in Springfield." Dr. Eve Guthrie came to Springfield and was intent on winning over Nick McHenry, whom she had known in some war-torn country, from Mindy Lewis. Apparently, she became obsessed with him and attempted to kill Mindy. She was then committed to a mental health treatment facility where she "made a speedy recover" - ha! Ed visited her regularly and they fell in love and were engaged when he died from a rare form of leukemia.
@@sheriheffner2098Hilary Edson is in a very special club in which she was on Soaps on all Three Networks. Another World (NBC), General Hospital (ABC), and Guiding Light (CBS). The Bauer Men have gone through so much anguish and heartbreak in their personal lives. Rick continued the tradition himself.
Oh yeah whoever you are, from.what I heard Bill Bauer was an alcoholic and a womanizer. I barely remember this; but I think Ed was an alcoholic? Does anyone else know this? I know Ed was sober for at least twenty years. I just remember Peter Simon as Ed.
I remember that as well and yes it was in the past that he was alcoholic when I started watching it in the super early 80s with my grandma and mom. I guess he inherited it from his father bill. I was so sad when the show canceled in the 2000s it was like losing family LOL
So, did you enjoy watching these rare “GL” episodes from 1966 again?
What do you think about me bringing you “GL” episodes from the 50s?
We want it all, every “Guiding Light” episode you have available!! 😂😂😂
I love it.. more please!
If you can please do! I’m enjoying this so much!! Thank you!
I want all the GL you have available.
I’m so happy you brought this particular sequence of episodes together!
R.I.P Jane Withers (1926-2021), who played Josephine the Plumber in the Comet Cleanser commercial (which starts at 8:59).
People remember her as Josephine the Plumber, but she'll always be a brilliant child actress who (for me) rivaled Shirley Temple.
Robert Gentry as Ed Bauer!!!!! What a treat these episodes are!!!!
Yessssssss indeed the BEST.. DR ED BAUER
That is really good. Great scene at the end. Back when soaps were soaps.
The organ music during scenes just kills me!
Me too!! And I was 10yrs old when this was on tv! But guess I don’t remember the organ music.

Anybody else notice at 4:08 somebody walking across the stage? Somebody didn't get out of camera range soon enough. Gotta love live tv. 😊😊

LOL
I remember Mary Mild.

Lynne Adams and Robert Gentry have a real chemistry and the storyline is terrific.

Indeed they are far better than the soaps today.l ❤ 😍 💖 ❣ 💕 classical soaps. And the commercials.
Had to chuckle that the actor providing ‘The Baby Cry’ was actually in the credits. 🤣
😅 - Same here. I couldn’t believe it.

Awesome episodes! I would like to see what happened after Bert confronted Maggie.
Ooh Wee!!😊

2 years later Maggie would die on the operating table for a serious intestinal ailment, The doctor was Ed Bauer ‼️
Probably a common way to kill off characters on soaps in those days.
My sister was almost three months old then. I turned three in August in 1966.

Ed cheated on maureen. Rita was Ed’s best match. Ed was always too involved with Holly which ruined his marriage to Rita.

Liebling Serie, warum nicht mehr in Deutschland 😢
Ich habe mir einige Ausschnitte der deutschen Übertragungen der Show angeschaut. RTL muss es wie Gold behandelt haben. ❤️
Who is watching because of the film The Help?
Bert's about to get it in with Maggie.
I didn't hear any baby cry.
All of these soap operas had that cheesy organ music. LOL
Indeed. When sosps were not trashy. I rather watch classics soaps then what's shown today what's left of this trashy.
The organ music is very loud
Any idea how to find the 11/22/63 episode? In the Mountain time zone this was interrupted for bulletins about JFK being shot.

Robert Gentry is the real father of Scott Bryce?
i can’t believe how often they used the n word in those scenes where they talked about the new black neighbors. wow soaps were super racist back then.
BTW, Who was Leslie?
Lynne Adams, older sister to Brooke Adams. Isn't Lynne beautiful? Always loved "Leslie."
Isnt she Rick Bauers mother?
Yes. Rick Bauer's mother.
