Yes infact he really sings temperato legato and can both master the voice big and small, his color tuched my heart many years ago. When I only had access to recording pieces listening to grammophones and not internet. This tenor my favorite lirico, lirico agile romantico Grazie signore Bella voce agile ❤
Unexpected? Going up to the major 5th is pretty standard in performances, whether it's a tenor's Bb or baritone's F. Bjoring sang this in the key of E natural and went up to a B. I've sung it in C, and hit a G. Most of the time, anyway. I really prefer to sing it in Bb, lol. The F is easier.
What a giant of a tenor, literally excellent. I do regret he belongs in this database, the Dead Tenors, and I am most grateful for every surviving recording.
Of all the great singers of that time that I heard at the Met and on tour, the size and brilliance of Corelli's top was completely unique in this seemingly unimportant respect; it was literally startling.
The Subject of Christ and the importance of His visit to earth starting with His lowly birth is truly magnified by this amazingly gifted and devoted tenor. He truly exalts the human beginning of Christ on that holy night in this ageless hymn.
The greatest tenor of the twentieth century. We don't know how great the tenors of the eighteenth and nineteen centuries were but Franco Corelli is the greatest I've heard. Even Luciano Pavarotti, a great tenor in his own right, lauded Corelli's mastery, control, tone and controlled dynamic voice and energy.
I am absolutely thrilled to find this magnificent rendition of this inspiring carol by the greatest tenor of all time, Franco Corelli! As was the case when I was privileged to hear him live, the most striking of the numerously striking aspects of his singing was the indescribably powerful emotional impact his voice had. Franco Corelli's legacy will last for as long as there are listeners with open hearts, a love of music, and the willingness to be transported to a world of beauty by his incomparable artistry.
I’ve been listening to this recording for years; it’s one of my absolute favorites. I’m still convinced that, in this performance, Corelli sang the best Bb4 in the history of humankind.
The diva Leontyne Price said it was difficult to concentrate on her singing when paired with Franco Corelli. For all the right reasons I might add! Heard that in the Met's anniversary celebration documentary.

I feel so humble that You should make such a comment .You have seen and heard Corelli many times live you have great memories. I want to thank You and wish You and all Your family a very happy and healthy new year.
I discovered Franco Corelli just this year. And you are correct. He is like no other. Brilliant and captivating. I am 75, so I have a lot of catch up listening to do. Clearly, you treasure your memories. I too envy you!
He did some incredible pianissimo b-flats in other songs. I can only wonder if he had chosen to do similar effects on this pretty song. BUt i guess it brought in the cash when he went stratospheric and full power, so he did what was needed! Regardless of my thoughts on this, he is one of the best tenors the world has seen.
Уважаемый Семен Усышкин,спасибо Вам за то что Вы написали правду.Я смотрела передачу о Ф.Корелли, там сказали,что он не приехал в Москву из-за сильного переутомленияОказывается,все было так,как Вы написали.
Ha ha, I thought all opera fans always say that their singers never scream, that it’s only contemporary singers who do…? Anyway, what you call “yelling”, I called thrilling. Which ever style using, that top note at the end has to be dramatic and dynamic! You can keep it small if you want, but most of us are not looking for that.
В жизни не видел такого красивого оперного певца, как Корелли. Это не говоря уже о голосе. В 1964- м за бешеные деньги купил билеты в Большой, а он прилетел насмерть простуженный и так и не смог выйти на сцену.
Wonderful voice and beautiful rendition of the Cantique de Noël "Minuit, Chrétiens!" by Adolphe Adam, even if it somehow lacks the refinement and tenderness of Jussi Björling and Enrico Caruso, among others.
How is it , that when a non Italian sings in the Italian language they are criticized? But when an Italian tenor sings in English, he is rarely criticized?
A beautiful Christmas song. But difficult to sing. It demands a very powerful voice to be sung properly. Franco could do it, so could Jussi. I think Caruso might have had a big enough voice, but he was never recorded with modern equipment.
Most tenors I've heard sing this piece do so in E-flat which gives them a ringy B-flat at the end. Up until I heard this recording, the only other famous tenor I knew who sang this a half-step higher was Jussi Bjoerling. Now I can add Franco Corelli to my list. That was a very exciting B-natural Mr. Corelli sang.
John Oregan, haha. That’s funniest comment I saw in TH-cam about classic operatic singers. That was good. But to be fair I think it’s just a bad recording. It’s amazing how his voice projects even with poor recording.
Please spare us the ever recurring and inevitable hints to Caruso... as if he'd been the reincarnation of God. Put him next to Corelli in this song and I'll tell you whose voice was bigger and had more squillo.....

His English is a bit faulty but what he lacks in diction he more than makes up for in abundant passion and musicality.
