Hi all, thanks for watching this video. My first food video and I didn’t expect it to get so many views! Appreciate the support. :)
And let’s keep this a safe place to share opinions. Rude/disrespectful comments will be deleted.
This store been around many many years. Super pricey. Honestly, not worth the money although they claimed the seafood were all wild fished and caught. Some dishes prepared over seasonings. If the seafood is the key focus, then it should be prepared in most simply way to keep tat.
That’s interesting. I didn’t know the restaurant claim their seafood are wild fished! I wonder if that’s how they justify for their pricier dishes.
I am actually glad chef Danny doesn’t prepare his dishes in the most simple way. Cause if he does that, I probably could go to almost any other seafood/tze char restaurants!
But I agree with you that Sin Huat is pricey. And the wait for the dishes to be served is insanely long.
Too expensive 😂
I remember watching Anthony Bourdain eating at this place in his show 'A Cook's Tour'. Your orders looked delicious 🤤
He's paid to sell
You can find better dining environment, less waiting time and maybe better tasting seafood elsewhere with S$500+ lol
Don’t deny. $500 can go another tze char. But we were specifically after chef Danny’s cooking 😅 It wasn’t my friend’s first time. And he raves about the food. So I said must jio me when he next go. Had to try it at least once 😂
Those prices are ridiculous for a Geylang coffeeshop imo
Fair point!
Go jb can eat 5 meals of this. lol
Not worth for the price and waiting time
Singapore is way overrated as a food destination. You can get the same meal in Malaysia or Thailand for a fifth of the price and much tastier.
To each their own, I guess.
If you go to Hong Kong market many stalls selling swimming seafoods.
Thks for the update
Jumbo, Long Beach, Long Ji and even JB Ah Meng would have easily cooked a way better seafood meal without the garlic overdose. Seafood flavours are delicate and no self respecting chef would drown scallops with thick gooey sauce, and killed flavours with garlic avalanche. No to the price, attitude, filthy environment and ghastly food presentation
I tried the 4 you mentioned. For that cooking style, I will recommend Yang Ming Seafood instead. Their pricing is wallet-friendly too!
Yes garlics use for makeup purpose, if you want to eat fresh seafood why eat garlics?
Always ask for the price first,if is too expensive, go somewhere else.
Must go early. Dun need to wait so long
We went at 7.15pm and was the first group to reach (and have our orders taken too) 🤔
@@thywhaleliciousfay oh my. The wait is really terrible
@@Bombasticbabygirl wait is really terrible. the chef would cook only in batches. this means your dish will be served at the same time as other parties, even if you arrived first. i really felt terrible eating here. the cooking is on point, the flavor... just okay. the experience? well, i'd like to have my. 500 sgd back
This is an experience I would say, good to try once in your life😂. I've been to sin huat before the covid occurs, although, forget about the cost, food quality is good la, the time spending is not worth for a coffeeshop opposite the red light street with poor services. The kitchen food is only cooked by him and maybe one or two more stuff that's all, but can't complain much about that, someone who likes his specialties, the others are not. I can pay for his food but not for the poor experience anymore. By the way the curry rice and duck porridge is very good at sin huat, that's the only reason I'll still visit there😊
True! My friends and I have been craving for his crab beehoon. And we don’t mind paying for his signature dish which really can’t be replicated anywhere else. But the thought of the long wait and at a non-AC shop, we are like “Hmm……” 😂
I haven’t tried Sean Kee Duck Rice. I guess I gotta return during the day for it!
The prawns only cost $20 or lesser, selling you for $98! You should visit wet market more often so you can understand what is worthwhile.
Everyone has their own opinions, and that’s fine. But yours is coming across as rude and I do not appreciate it.
Prawns of that size and 15 number (I assume you also read the receipt that’s included in the video) for under $20? I certainly haven’t seen that kind of pricing at hyper marts or my hood’s wet market.
And we didn’t visit Sin Huat for just 1 prawn dish. I shared my stance (that yes it’s ex, but it’s worth it) based on all the dishes we had.
This place has been around for years and the condition of the place and the boss's attitude has never changed for the better. If you think it could be cheaper, maybe. But why should he lower the price knowing very well there are people willing to pay and wait.
Oh yes, my friends were sharing stories of their (not so nice) encounters with chef.
And love your theory! I also use that on Singapore’s sushi omakase scene!!! We lament how expensive sushi omakase is and wish they will lower the menu price. But why will they when people still go for it (myself included 🤦🏻♀️)
As mentioned by all the other comments, it's really silly to dine at this price. The atrocious price, dirty & rundown place and the owner's attitude.
Could have had a meal with better tasting seafood and more comfortable environment at Long beach, Jumbo or any hotel restaurant for the same price (or lesser).
The problem is influencers/youtubers like to keep hyping up this place... this is why the owner knows he can overcharge, heck care his environment and behave like patrons need to beg him for a meal lol.
Hi, thanks for sharing.
Taste is really subjective. I mean… I enjoy his cooking style, esp of the crab beehoon. And I don’t know of any where else that can replicate his style (happy if someone knows somewhere!).
So for me at least. Yes, Sin Huat is ex but it is worth it. Though it’s more “borderline worth it” than “super worth it”, after considering the long wait and poor circulation. The non-existent chef service/poor attitude during the brief interaction didn’t bother me that much, tbh. Cause with other seafood/tze char places, we don’t usually see the owner/head chef. It just happens he is a one man show at Sin Huat.
Not sure about the ‘beg’. It feels more like he is content at where he is. Like he doesn’t want to address all those issues cause he isn’t keen to become popular and thus busier 😅
Side note: I don’t consider myself as an influencer or TH-camr. Just a foodie who is now exploring filming (as compared to writing) to talk about my dining experience :)
crazy expensive $224 for a crab beehoon?? you can have 2 crabs in a 5 star restaurant
Over $500 is expensive even by Canadian standard.😮
We were a group of 5. So the meal came up to $103pp. I honestly didn’t mind spending that amount for his cooking. But I would have expected the place to have better ventilation. It was lacking fans or AC… 😕
Lack of fans n ac is also an experience 😂
The crab bee hoon can add more bee hoon without adding the numbers of crabs 🤔? Is there any other size to choose? Was recommended by an acquaintance for the crab bee hoon.
Sorry to ask.. What kind of crabs the chef is using?
Hi hi! He uses Sri Lankan crabs. And he doesn’t let us choose the size. He will decide on the portion for us based on how many pax we have. And he’s quite spot on with his portion estimation.
We tried requesting for more beehoon. But don’t think he added for us. 😅 My friends and I enjoyed the crab beehoon. In fact, my friends are heading back next week! I can’t join them cause I be out of town. Let me know how the meal goes for you, if you do go 😊
@@thywhaleliciousfay oh.. so he will decide for us and we cant choose 😓
Been tempting to try this but whats holding me back is the high price point😫
Maybe your friends can try requesting for more bee hoon and see he if add this time round? "Maybe" that time he forgotten OR he totally ignored the request 🥲
dumb prices.. still eat..
And out of the many vocabulary available, the reason you chose dumb will be…?
Way too overprice. $18 for otah? The store needs to work on their food presentation as customers are paying high end restaurant prices. Most does not look appetising, rather pay to eat at Jumbo seafood.
Too expensive
TOO EXP
No way for that kind of prices. Ridiculous
Cut throat pricing. Anyway I cannot afford
Definitely not worth the price ..overrated
500$ spend on a coffee shop?? i rather go JB and get better food
Bb ki dunksfrq
Very cheap
To me, this shop is a little pricy side..
