Today, Žiga tests out the FN SCAR, a rifle very hard to get in Slovenia, and compares it to what he knows best, the AK.

Gojira Junior the ak actually still preforms fine after being dug out of mud and sand or even dirt, a lot of the reason you see aks in middle eastern countries is from old soviet stashes from the Cold War, they were dug up from the ground where there would be crates filled with sand/dirt and under all that are ak’s and dragunovs.

Tests on youtube show the AR-15 passes all torture tests from dumped in mud, sand, dirt. The AK-47 failed the mud test, mud entered the receiver and jammed the weapon and could not extract or go into battery. AR-15 also is not "true gas impingment system". The gas system actually has a piston and it is called a piston. Eugen Stoner also realized carbon is a natural lubricant and the rifle will run dry for a couple thousand rounds. The reason why there are new AK's out there (AK-74, AKM, Ak-12 and AK-103) is because they are outdated, the AR outperforms the AK. Some Spetsnaz train with M4's. The AK is not invincible.

@@AlejandroRodriguez-le7pm you can't say it outperforms it, the first AR-15s were really unreliable with 80% of the American soldiers in Vietnam reporting they weren't happy with the rifle and often picking up AKs from the enemy, sure the more modern ARs have a lot of adjustments, anti mud, durable ergonomics which can be slightly better than a rifle made in 1947. Another thing to consider is the price, AKs cost merely 700-1000$ meanwhile a modern AR would cost 2000-3000$, the fire rate is bigger on an AR platform, but emptying a magazine in 2 seconds by spraying is not recommended on any of these. All in all the AK has much simpler design and is much more versatile than the AR and probably that is the reason it is the most popular rifle in the world.
Most people forget the “47” in “AK-47” stands for the year it was invented - 1947. The fact that this gentleman is comparing it to a modern weapon speaks to its timeless nature and most importantly - reliability.

The 47 is the year the design was finalized...the first functional an was produced in 1946
truthful Conch777 the Kalashnikov design of 1946 differed quite a bit from what would be the final product. It used a short stroke piston, could be separated into an upper and lower receiver, and featured most of its controls on the left side of the weapon. Also, it would be a stretch to say the weapon was finalized in 1947 as the design team was tinkering around with how the receiver would be made. You have the Type 1 which was stamped and finished around 1948, the Type 2 milled in 1951, and the Type 3 lightened milled in 1954.

Who says that it's okay? Of course if you compare for accuracy of fire and recoil AK-47 and M4 - M4 wins. But to compare AK-47 with modern tactical kit and M4A1 has the meaning - as the recoil from the M4A1 noticeably larger than the M4.

The SCAR does have a very unique feel. The recoil is really soft and smooth. For some reason I always think of it as walking on sand, whereas other guns are usually like normal pavement.
But has almost twice the amount of muzzle rise as the AK. It’s just a different recoil pulse. Anyone who’s shot an AK will tell you it has basically the same recoil as an AR 15. If you say the AK has a lot of recoil you’re not shooting it right lol
@@mrmidnight32 I own the Scar H version (.308) and I can safely say it’s almost exactly same recoil. The actual impulse of recoil is much softer/smoother than all my AKs

Comparing AK with other rifles is the same like comparing Gladius vs. Any_other_blades. Gladius was designed for total war, it was cheap, simple and deadly efficient. So is AK - there are more than 70 millions officially produced. When some new weapon can beat this value then it is time to compare it with AK.

He talks about the recoil being so tame on a 5.56.. Well yea when you compare 5.56 with 7.62x39 of course it seems like that. But it would be a much more fair comparison with the 5.56 scar and a ak74 chambered in 5.45x39

Boneheadedbruhs that has nothing to do with anything. I never said 7.62x39 was hard to handle. But comparative to the 5.56, it's significantly more. 5.56 is about 5.5 pounds of felt recoil. 7.62x39 is just shy of 10 pounds of recoil. Not that it's hard to handle, but compared to the 5.56, it's almost double. It's rather noticeable when shooting both back to back

The fact that you're comparing a modern weapon with one invented way back in 1947 itself speaks volumes of the reliability, durability and impact of AK

The Scar didn't pick up the next round "malfunction", because it was on the suppressed gas setting. That's also why it was shooting so soft. I'm actually surprised it was feeding so consistently! When my Scar is on the suppressed setting, it almost never picks up the next round.

@@ThePlatinumsquirrel yeah the plug can go into three “modes” the suppressed is all the way over the gas plunger that you see at the start of video. Vertical is full gas and to the right is disassembly of the gas.

@@joedoran4758 I'm not an AK fan by any means, but I think the SCAR-16s sucks ass. Doesn't feed steel cased ammo well and has a reciprocating bolt. Doesn't seem worth the price they sell them for

@@xxxxxx5868 It depends on which ak you are referring to. Yes ak47 is very reliable but according to nowadays weapons is pretty outdated. It's something like the Browning m1911 this pistol remained in service for 90 years in the us military. And you must also take count that us soldiers in Iraq preferred aks instead of the m4 and m16 because of their reliability. The best gun for me is one of the most modern versions of the ak. Ak12 takes all the good staff from previous models. It is reliable, uses a 5.45cal bullet which means less recoil but at the same time the power effect of this weapon is the same with an ar15 which uses a 5.56cal. It's endurable and in my opinion is a masterpiece of Russian engineering. Russians and Germans know how to build a good rifle unlike the French

Light meaning, "minor" caliber, 5.56 NATO (.223)
Heavy meaning, "heavy" caliber, 7.62x51 NATO (.308)
I have shot both, the Light is a wonderful, "toy" gun... a, "scalpel", the Heavy is a long range, "sledge hammer" (Much heavier recoil of the .30 caliber round in a light weight, polymer platform. But the heavy's muzzle brake helps a LOT...)
There are even a few after market barrels for the Light in calibers like .300 Blackout, which is kinda like a softer recoiling 7.62 x 39 bullet crammed into a 5.56 case. ;)
Yeah, that's right. SCAR-L fires 5.56x45, lighter than 7.62x51 that the SCAR-H uses. Because of the larger, more powerful cartridges in the H, magazines are smaller; 20 rounds normally, a SCAR-L generally has 30

And it's still a unicorn so impossible to obtain that it's only relevant if you're some sort of specialoperationsmastersergeantshooterpersonextreme that doesn't buy their own weapons and yet still gets to choose.

playaaaLV first off... the manual of arms is at least as much as matter of ergonomics as it is mechanical operation.
Second, it's still the same on all the AK platforms, with the tiny, insignificant exception of the safety on a couple, again, unicorns.
Finally, what does anything you've said have to do with the original comment or my question in response? What is your point? Weapons can improve in ergonomics as the design is iterated? Awesome factoid dude!
....but the AK hasn't. The AK12 is arguably the biggest step toward "modernizing" the AK platform and all it really did was add practical rail capability... by completely redesigning the receiver around the same action. Everything is in the same place and works the same way except the safety, which barely matters.
Name a significant ergonomic difference between a modern AK and an AKM made in the 60s or please cease with the pointless pedantry. Or... you know... make the effort to actually make a salient point that relates to the topic in some other way.

larger round doesnt always mean more punch (if you are talking about caliber) compare .50ae to a .458 socom or even a .308 in an AK. .50ae is a larger caliber but will never be as powerful as a .308 or .458 socom

The SCAR wins because
1: It has less recoil
2: It has a longer maximum effective range
3: It weighs less therefore you can operate longer and mobility is increased
4: It can be outfitted with many optics and attachments
5: It will certainly make you look like an operator

I think this is Yugoslavian/Serbian "Zastava M70".. It is kinda modified.
the scar being on the suppressed gas setting caused your malfunction. the selector was at 10 o clock, less gas, 12 o clock is normal

A rather modern rifle like the SCAR should be compared to a modern AK. You should get your hands on a Krebs Custom AC-15 or get some Circle 10 AK upgrades for your old companion!

nop, owning several ar/aks I spoke about all ak rifles being the SAME SYSTEM, different variants, different quality... dragunovs are not rpks i know, the m16, hk 416 thing is a different matter of choice in this case i chose the AK to be a better system i also know a fancy wood, gold and diamonds wasr is not better than any norinco type 56s/arsenal/bulgarian. and i also know that fn scar should compare to hk, sig etc.

Best thing is there is still no match for the AK-47 even though it's a pre cold war weapon. Maybe others are sexy, got some nice comfort feature but when it comes to damage and durability both hands down to AK 👏👏👏
1. Thats an AKM, AK47 is shit in reality and replaced by AKM years later, which is much better in durability and reliability
2. Bigger bullet doesnt mean better damage, cause kalashnikov now starts producing more ak varisnts with 5.45 compared to akm 7.62, smaller bullets lead to higher velocity, and better trajectory

Nope that is a mk16 which fires 5.56 x 45. He should have used the mk17 instead that fires the 7.62 x 51.
In other words SCAR H fires 7.62 x 51 and SCAR L fires 5.56 x 45.
Scar-L shoots 5.56........
Because with a 5.56 you get more range.. that's one reason why you would compare it. 7.62 is a bigger bullet so it drops faster.
Please make a comparison of the SCAR Heavy and the G3. It would be interesting if the SCAR shoots so soft with the 7,62 ammo? Cheers

Well, the AK-107 has the counterweight system similar to the AEK-971, so it's not really a true AK like the AK-12.
Furthermore, the AK in AK-107 doesn't stand written out as "Avtomat Kalashnikova" (what the AK in AK-47, AKM, AK-74 and AK-12 means), but rather "Alexandrov-Kalashnikov", Yuri Alexandrov being the designer of the AK-107.

I like both. Both in games and in real life.
The SCAR was designed with SOCOM in mind, the 7.62 model also has little to no recoil as well (The AR type platform was modular but lacked reliability and why not make ergonomics better?). It's also very durable and able to handle rough conditions. I want to buy one, but it's a little outside of my pay grade XD (If I were to buy one, I'd get the SCAR 17; love the hard hitting 7.62x51 round)
in my experience the scar in 7.62 has a considerable amount of recoil, more so than even the g3 or fal. no way around it on such a light rifle without a complicated system in place.

Those 2 rifles and the one handgun to go with what I already have. When I leave this earth I will have some nice toys to leave my son.

I dont think Jonty has ever fired one, nobody that has fired one would say that. Probably a video gamer. . . You're about right, the Scar 17 is similar in recoil to the AR. And I dont know what he is talking about either when it comes to the G3 ; HK-91 clone's recoil is beautiful (unless you decide to magdump then muzzle rise will get ya). I don't know about the FAL, havent shot an FAL. but they all use the same round, and I expect that the FAL would have small recoil too

Jeste. Možda su mogli da nabave neku novu rusku AK 74 u 5.45mm. Bilo bi objektivnije poređenje. Ovako, čelik i drvo u 7.62 protiv čelika i polimera u 5.56 stvarno izgleda bez veze (vizuelno). Ne znam zašto svi na YT imaju potrebu da upoređuju AK 47 platformu sa svim ostalim oružjem na planeti. Ako do sada nisu shvatili da od AK nema bolje (pogotivu ove SRB), onda da ga je..m :-)

I’m glad you like it 🙂 it has been a massive succes for us. Not as much as our machineguns or the FAL but the SCAR are well liked by many nations.
Our entire army is replacing their FNC’s (wich are also excellent rifles) they are based on the AK and M16, taking the advantages of both systems and put into one. Being the reliable operating system of the AK and the 5.56 round and magazine comptability with the M16.
The SCAR is basically a 21st century application of our FNC. Our Army uses them in tan and the special police units get the black variants.
A friend of mine completed infantry training and will be sent to Libanon in september with his brand new SCAR, he said the H variant shoots nice as well. But he has the L variant with the std barrel. He prefers the FNC for longer range shooting, it feels more stable. But the SCAR is more comfortable and allows for a lot of customization.
But they are expensive yes, in the US they might go from 3000-5000 USD. But the parts are finished to fine tolerances and the engineering that went into the rifle is top notch. They are quite reliable as well, maybe not as much as the AK or FNC but it came very close second to the HK416 during tests conducted by SOCOM for their next rifle. Firing well over a million rounds in all kinds of circumstances.
From what I can see, you were shooting the SCAR in the suppressed gas setting. This may have been the reason for the feeding issue - not enough gas to cycle the action properly.

Brother ! You said you liked the AK better but your eyes can't lie!!! I own a 17 also AKs ARs and the new Rock River PDS pistol here is how they line up.. In a combat situation SCARheavy then RRA PDS SBR suppressed then AR15 Noveske.. Last AK the AK is only as good as the mag. You hear a lot about how they run but here to say I see them fail to fire many time because of different problems.. But Great video..
