Nelson is one of my favourite ships in the game. Those super heals have brought me back from the brink of death so many times, though I need to learn from this video and try to autobounce more shots while slinging HE back. My favourite premium though is Mikasa. Her main guns might be kinda meh, but her secondaries just bully everything at Tier II and III. So many times I'll be hunting the other team's Mikasa and end up with 3-5 kills from secondaries without me having to even do anything. That's a lot of fun for me personally.
I like playing Mikasa for the same reason. Jingles did a video on the Mikasa a while back and I picked up some play hints from him about the secondary's, played properly she can give T3 BBs a hard time. She has me thinking that WG should think about adding a few more 'predreadnoughts' to the game.
Thank you!!! I just had a 133k T8 game where I ended top of the list with this advice!! You rock!! I might have to pull her out of mothballs into primary ship status!
I agree Chase, Nelson really isn't a bad ship, I learned how to deal with some of her shortcomings early on and have had some good matches with her. That said I missed that detail about the upper armor belt, so thank you very much.
Answer of Chase: Yeah you do that a little while longer while I sink you. Haven't you seen the heal? Brit BBs with super-heal don't care about HE damage at all.
Yes, HMS Nelson is a tricky ship at first, but once you figure out the bounce trick, she can be a real threat. One of my favorite Tier VII battleships. Pick your battles, snipe from range, make Tier VIII's and IX's cry.
Thanks for the direction on how to fight the Nelson. I have been thinking about getting her for over a year, and have plenty of free experience to do so. I have just been undecided about whether she was worthwhile getting, but your video convinces me that she is.
@@ichasegaming Yeah, my biggest issue is I feel like I tend to keep my distance to much, so instead of kiting I sometimes angle my front in a way that I actually bounce 16 inch shells. Then again, if im not careful Its gonna hurt.
Thank you so much! After wtaching this I played two games where I got 130k+ and in one of them 6 kills, 3 devstrikes and confederate. Yeah I was top tier but this video was unbelievably helpful!
When I went through my Royal Navy recruitment back in the 1980s the school liaison officer was called Captain Evans who served on HMS Nelson before and during WW2. Absolutely fascinating stories. He was gunnery officer for 18 months during the war.
This is exactly how I play Goliath. People think that ship is trash, but it's amazing. I do like 5- 8k with 1-2 fires every 15 seconds while tanking a ton of damage for my team because battleships think they can blap me.
Thanks for the info! I got the Nelson for 20 games now and wasn't really convinced so far. Everyone and their moms can overmatch you, and the side armor didn't look too convincing either so I didn't angle as much as you do. I didn't realize it is enogh for bouncing. :D
What a nice "advice". Glad it will be played such way mostly on US server. Instead of 26 mm bow + 305 mm citadel frontal armour, which with the actual right 30-35 deg angling provides 400+ mm of total effective armour (however still not enough to stop 15` and above shells from in middle-to-close distances), it will be 26 mm of bow + 32 of citadel rear (not more than 100 mm in total with adequate angling). Yes, it is obvious, that in this game and through the history in general - defence is more effective tactic (kiting is a defensive one), but all defence provided by such positioning is only by the wrong aiming of the enemy, that will hit the centre. It works up to the first enemy, who can hit things and will purposely target the stern itself. And from such position, Nelson can be citadeled by things, such as Pensacola thanks to the shorter stern.
Great video, but I was very surprised that even having perfect opportunity, you did not show another great aspect of the Nelson - he is an awesome dd hunter! Since Nelson's guns can instantly change side (from left to right and back), when there is a dd, even in smoke (which is even better), you just charge towards him, but at an angle (enough to shoot all 3 guns). If available, watch the PT to detect torp launch. If not, just judge by the "spotted" indicator. When you get spotted, give like 15 seconds so dd can launch his torps, then suddenly change the side, sail in same direction (towards dd) but to opposite side (instead of 20 degree left, now it's 20 degree right). And soon you will see the torps passing by. When you get closer, eventually the DD might smoke, you can keep zigzagging, or just rush straight to the smoke. In worst case, dd will shoot his torps straight to you, maybe you take 1 or at most 2 (and use the 22k heal if needed), and soon you will push the DD out of the smoke or spot him at minimum range and blap him with all 9 (or at least 6) HE guns. I killed many dds this way, sometimes even in pairs, Nelson is very fun because they just don't expect you to do that.
This is very helpful as I have just started to do a series on my channel just with my premium ships , starting with the low tiers and then moving up. You should have used your Repair Party and healed up right after the enemy Edinburgh was sunk at around 8-minutes in the vid. There's no point in saving the heal when you have to cross quite a distance anyway to meet the enemies coming from the east so you have lots of time to be recharging it. You don't even see another enemy ship for almost two and a half minutes. And then, again, when Alaska is sunk, you fail to use your repair party to heal up. That's really risky when you could potentially eat a bunch of torpedoes at less than half HP. Why take unnecessary risks?
I dont mind spending money. But I came to the game too late. They just removed some amazing ships and I missed my chance. Im trying to research whats worth anything march 21?~
14:08 why are you not using a heal??? . if you popped it a BIT earlier.... you would have within 3000 health..... and the cooldown would be almost finished by the time you see that DD heck.... the cooldown might be almost done when you see the DD if you popped it at 14:08 . were you trying to save the credits......by not using any heal....so you dont have to pay for the premium con-sum?? . idk man.... i would have totally popped that heal off..... JUST IN CASE the DD gets a few torps into me
yup, when you finally popped that heal..... it was 1min and 30 seconds after i noticed you had not used your heal which means..... you would of been like 2 seconds away from having the cool-down end.... . instead.... your waiting 1 min 20.... and he has torps re-loaded . idk.... im not trying to say "omg, i-chase is a hack fraud and sucks" but i KNOW you have millions in credits..... if not gold.... . but even my poor ass would have said "screw the credits.... im popping the heal.... ill play 1 round of T6 or something to gain it back and more"
3:21 that is so toxic..... 15KM shot..... "cold bore"..... yet 2 fires.... . British BBs are so damn toxic.... . and then their is the "heal 3/4s of my ship in 3 seconds" heal like i stopped playing slightly over a year ago..... just got board . but im glad to see they didnt do shit about British BBs and made carriers even worse..... at least AA meant something in the past..... and the CV player had to be micro-ing out his pee hole to do REALLY well . now a CV cant do crap..... skilled or not.... unless RNG says you can
Edit: AVOID THE NELSON. WHAT A WASTE OF XP. GOOD RIDDANCE - IT'LL BE GONE SOON So "how do you play the Nelson correctly?" This video says: 1. Don't attack facing forward ("bow in" toward enemy in front of you) - But there is little armor at the rear. 2. Should still be enough to bounce, but you do have to be more careful, meaning you gotta time the opponents salvo as well
@@ichasegaming thanks,, I have played quite a few games in Nelson, I do well, just by sitting bow in but keeping my distance, but I never thought of kiting in it.
Do you have it fully set up or is this a stock nelson?
Would have been nice to see your build and captain skills
Standard battleship build :) for 21 points 1: ERS, 2: (PT or Grease the Gears), 3: AR, BoS, 4: ERE, CE, FPE
My Georgia loves Nelsons
great info...thankx
I love playin her
You should have used your Repair Party and healed up right after the enemy Edinburgh was sunk at around 8-minutes in the vid. Why take unnecessary risks?
realized i never play Nelson outside operation.
It's a good ship in randoms, should give it a try
The nelson is a paper ship aim for the 2nd middle 16 inch main gun and its out for the count
She a great ship
Not only BBs but all T5-7 light cruisers as well. IFHE makes no difference
Was this gameplay also applicable to lenin?
Only somewhat, Lenin is a lot more durable due to 32mm bow and good forward turret angles. Lenin is like a perfected Nelson
I dont mind spending money. But I came to the game too late. They just removed some amazing ships and I missed my chance. Im trying to research whats worth anything march 21?~
Theyre not removing them for 3 months...
Took you hell of a time to notice you needed repairs. If would have been nice to see it in real time, to get an impression of the healing.
*! Expecting 32mm bounce is not working to good players !*
I still wonder how these are relevant to Console play...not only are they differwnt tier but different developers
Ahhhhhh my fireproof flag farmer
Yeah but how do you get a damn citadel when using it!!!!
ahh play it like an Izumo
Yup, but Nelson's HE is a lot more lethal
The real Nelson is designed for offensive bow-on strategies with all its turrets installed forward. In the game, it ends up being the opposite...
Wrong. The Nelson’s design is for optimum armour distribution given the Washington treaty limitations.
14:08 why are you not using a heal???
.
if you popped it a BIT earlier.... you would have within 3000 health..... and the cooldown would be almost finished by the time you see that DD
heck.... the cooldown might be almost done when you see the DD if you popped it at 14:08
.
were you trying to save the credits......by not using any heal....so you dont have to pay for the premium con-sum??
.
idk man.... i would have totally popped that heal off..... JUST IN CASE the DD gets a few torps into me
yup, when you finally popped that heal..... it was 1min and 30 seconds after i noticed you had not used your heal
which means..... you would of been like 2 seconds away from having the cool-down end....
.
instead.... your waiting 1 min 20.... and he has torps re-loaded
.
idk.... im not trying to say "omg, i-chase is a hack fraud and sucks"
but i KNOW you have millions in credits..... if not gold....
.
but even my poor ass would have said "screw the credits.... im popping the heal.... ill play 1 round of T6 or something to gain it back and more"
Sounds great until you run into a Musashi
3:21 that is so toxic..... 15KM shot..... "cold bore".....
yet 2 fires....
.
British BBs are so damn toxic....
.
and then their is the "heal 3/4s of my ship in 3 seconds" heal
like i stopped playing slightly over a year ago..... just got board
.
but im glad to see they didnt do shit about British BBs and made carriers even worse.....
at least AA meant something in the past..... and the CV player had to be micro-ing out his pee hole to do REALLY well
.
now a CV cant do crap..... skilled or not.... unless RNG says you can
Edit: AVOID THE NELSON. WHAT A WASTE OF XP. GOOD RIDDANCE - IT'LL BE GONE SOON
So "how do you play the Nelson correctly?" This video says:
1. Don't attack facing forward ("bow in" toward enemy in front of you) - But there is little armor at the rear.
2. (DO NOT do this) -- Position your Nelson at an angle with your rear/stern pointing toward the enemy
3. Don't expose your broadsides to the enemy (Yup)
Look at all the campers on the other team lol
I was a sole nelly on a flank and my AP wouldnt do much for me enemy tier 8 cruisers spanning HE at me I switched to HE and made the entire flank run away and laughed at there puny HE while healing 3 fires muhahahaha
Thats a lot of credits for a prem tier VII ship, i have a scharnhorst but she earn credit less than my graf spee.-. Got 250k credits in 100k damage is meh-_-
Just Press T already
I rushed a Kremlin in my Richeileu and they had to call a repair ship...
But not for my Richeileu!
>:) oh wait I don't have Nelson :(
