Ichthys are really useful when you want to just explore the oceans and look for good creatures and loot without risking your more valuable tames. Just trap it in a pen or something.
It's kind of sad. There's a select number of Dinos that the devs were intent on being enemies. i.e. Spiders, snakes, bats, etc. Any Dino that makes life difficult, yet doesn't offer many rewards when tamed.
I think that would be cool on aberration with on the cliffs well be climbing on. If it get revamps to shoot a more powerful web trap that you could use to get away or something. have a pounce where you can attack it's with fangs to deal posion damage. It would be really cool.
Seriously, they could've done so much with the spiders. It's estimated that if spiders were the size of people, they could run down a football field in six seconds. Maybe make it this escape/capture mount. Can stall and outrun enemies or use venom to tranquilize like real spiders. Noooope

For instance, until the ascencion boss battle was released, the archeopteryx was the top noch dino for ascending as you could do that cave naked with that dino Araneo : yeah, not the best in his category indeed Kairuku : useless indeed as a portable heater, but they do have a use tamed : as a slaughter house, similar to how you use tamed sheep aside from wool production Ichtyornys (i'll call it dolphin from now on) : very useful actually, just not anymore as a scout. I agree with all you've stated nowadays actually, since you've been pointing out the scout role. The dolphin is probably the best creature to farm black pearls via killing eurypterids in the abyss (except on Ragnarok where they live close to surface for some reason), those small underwater insects that tend to inflict massive torpor. Use anything else and you'll be either susceptible to the torpor or you'll send the eurypterids flying away from you, usually both. The dolphin is immune to torpor and inflicts no knock back. Until you can safely kill off krakens, using a strong dolphin to kill eurypterids is your way to farm black pearls.
michelle dailing actually icthys are great for endgame if you have scuba gear you can go down to the ocean floor with them and get loads of silica pearls

Kairukus can be used in automatic organic polymer farms. Just build pen for them let them breed and use a creature on agressive to kill they babys. This is especially good with boosted breeding settings.
One other thing I should add is the Archaeopteryx is great because carrying parachutes is extra weight in your inventory. Not to mention that one time you forget to make a parachute, and you forget, jump and fall to your death. I've never tamed one myself, but I've been in that situation where I accidentally jumped off my bird and didn't have a parachute.

I was very surprised with #1. The Ichthy is a great early water scout dino that are incredibly easy to obtain if you lure them near the shores and you just build a fence around them so they don't wander off away when you try to tame them. I use them to search for high level Megalodons to tame, and then lure them into my underwater taming pens. They're only good for their speed, true, but their small size also plays an advantage to making them great escape baits for other potential underwater tames.
I remember on the Ragnorak map, two Ichthys spawned in a small lake so I tamed em and put them onto aggressive wander. A while later, the server host is getting reports of lag in the area. I head in to investigate. Our two dolphins have became 40. Ooops.
No. Ichtryosaurue is the fastest water dino, and he is the best to rush cave for red loots, because no dino is faster, you just have to do a simple wooden taming pen with 4 dino doors closed near the beach. He has a great stamina. One of the dinos I use the most
@@flan4532 : the sprint speed of a manta is faster (2700) than a ichthyosaurus ( 2376) but the manta has a lower carry weight so when ridden it´s speed is lower than that of a ichtyosaurus.
You can use kairukus for infinite polymer. Just create a pen where you have like 2x males 8x females on wander with a mochops in there and as the babies die the mochop will harvest them. That's what I did last time I played, because my base was quite far away from obsidian / organic polymer :)
That’s actually really good thinking I would’ve never thought to do that. If u rlly think ab it that’s 11 dino slots just for polymer. Plus they don’t breed that quickly & moschops can’t rlly gather much polymer from a fresh newborn kairuku if any at all? (I haven’t tried it younger than juvenile) So I could imagine by the time you need polymer most of it from the moschops would have already spoiled. U could bring a moschops to the snow biome and kill kairukus there. I took my moschops to 2 of the islands off the snow biome and left with like 400+ polymer. Best part is that only required 1 taming slot & like 5 minutes of time
JT Legend That's what i thought until I actually got the game and don't feel like bothering building a place large enough to hold them nor feed them. Maybe one day I will when I get bored and feel like making extra enclosure for other creatures. At the moment I'm building extra in specifically for gigas because they take up too much space where I hold my other creatures.
Archaeopteryx is one of my favorite base tames. He is really good for gliding when your only air mount is a pteranodon. He is especially good for anyone that builds a base in the redwoods of the center.
A good purpose for the female Megaloceros is to breed with a male, so you can get mutations for harvesting. The Itchy is the base level aquatic tame, comparable to the Parasaur in that environment. It's speed can also be used to rush through all spawn locations for deep sea loot while avoiding predators, and it's the only aquatic mount you can use a weapon with.
The Icthy is super useful as a fast covert naval mount for sea faring tribes. Unless there are lots of naval players, the icthy won't reveal your presence easily in transit due to the low profile, and it's way easier to tame than a megalodon or manta. Outside of rapid transport, yeah, they're pretty useless.

The "penguin" is useful to store organic polymer, as the fridge can only hold so much. We all know that we have that acendent ghillie stuff that when we go collecting organic polymer, when we finally get back to base, will be short on by the time we do get back. They store it for a lot longer than any other dino that I know of, and pump weight and they can carry a lot of it.

Kairuku make for great storage containers for light bulky items like thatch, fibre, hide. They take up very little room, so can be placed on a smithy or in a corner, have good weight stat for a small creature. They eat all meat, so are easy to keep fed and lay eggs for a quick snack while offloading at the smithy, or for kibble. They are easy to breed, just keep two in a cage on the way into your workshop, collect the fertilized egg on the way out, put it in the fridge then hatch in bulk later when you need polymer.I love your videos by the way. Me disagreeing with some of your opinions, is certainly not a rebuttal of your excellent content.
It is widely understood that the in game names of dinosaurs are abbreviations for their actual names. i.e. Quetzal = Quetzalcoatlus Carno = Carnotaurus, Rex = Tyrannosaurus Rex, etc. Cerm Dern

No. 1 Hyaenodon. They’re super hard and annoying to tame, and when you finally do tame them, you get a portable preserving bin that’s weaker than a raptor.
The Ichthyosaurus isn't only a very fast swimmer, he is also one of the, if not most, easiest to tame Water Dinosaurs entry game. Just bash a few Dodos and tame yourself an ichty, without having to shoot it with narco arrows.
TheMasterlauti you need to get a crop plot... and wait for the rockarrot to grow and find dodo eggs... that is not level 8, earliest probably by level 30/40
A few Ichthys spawned in a lake behind our base, but couldn't get out. I tamed em for the hell of it and left them on wander to keep the water clear and to passively collect fish meat. A week later, I get back to that base and their's 300 dolphins in the damn lake. Ooops. Turns out they'd been breeding.
I love the icthys. Not because I use them a lot, but actually because of how easy they are to tame cx. They swim right up to you, especially if you're on a pelagornis, and take dodo kibble which is the easiest kibble to make
I'll admit spiders aren't worth the effort on the island, but on ragnarok and I think scorched earth they are a little easier. As you said the web is good for base defense especially in primitive+ where the only turret is species x. To be honest I'd agree they aren't worth it until your set up enough that bug spray is easy come by. Which you still need bug spray to tame the far more useful queen bee, mantis, and arthropluera.
Ichthys are just supposed to be easy aquatic tames. Dodo kibble and then you have a sea mount. New players to a specific map can use them for exploring the coasts, and others can use the as a disposable dino to get to underwater caves.
Araneo are great for caves, as soon you don't have to jump Specially for crow control, with the secondary attack And it's even better if you tamed it within the cave, as no wild creatures agros on it, unless you'd doing something dumb (using any weapons from his back)
I'm not a pro at ark but even I can tell how useful the one who lets you fly and is a good parachute is useful. They can be really good if you need to escape a fight quickly or climb a mountain/hill. Also sorry if I sound dumb but I think parachutes can only be used once so they take up lots of thatch and resources while the Dino can always be used.
Itchyosaurus is actually really good for taming underwater creatures. Since you can shoot of them and they are also really fast. I recently tamed a level 61 Mosa with one.
The penguins are good for kibble. Tame 7 penguins, 1 Male and 6 female, and use the surplus of eggs to make kibble for taming anglers which are very good for pearl farming. The dolphins are good because they are very fast. Good for exploring and finding good creatures to tame
You can fly forever really easily with an archeopterix and a flyer you can ride, set the one you are riding on follow, closest and when it runs out of stam, jump off with the archeopterix on your shoulders, then get back on after a few seconds, and it has full stam again
PSA: Ichthyosaurus are drawn toward your tamed mounts and nuzzle up against them. Take a Carbonemys out, find an Ichthy you want, and lead it to the shallows to tame it
I SOOOO beg to differ with the Archaeopteryx. If you're into building, that thing is fucking amazing, especially if you're building really tall structures. I tamed one in my Ragnarök server and I don't think I ever put him down.
Kairuku doesn't deserve to be in this list it's a pain making poly and you can take penguins breed them make more keep on breeding make thousands kill them you will get so much poly

Female megaloceros is the fastest creature in the game, The archeopetryx produce tree sap when you set them on wander, the kairuku provides warmth arround them which can be really usefull for hatching eggs and the ichty is a really early tame which can outtun any water dino so very usefull for pearl diving. But I have to agree with the spider, he has got nothing going for him
For the female Megaloceros, you can breed more of them with her and shes easy enough to tame for an early mount. Beyond that, ya, i agree. As for the Ichty, they are good, but i agree that its not worth the effort.
The kairuku is good, they are like dimorhedons but in the sea. Take 20 high level kairuku and you can take down anything in the ocean. Maybe not jellyfish or eels
The Ichthy is not meant to be a powerhouse. But it's agility makes up for it, I have taken down Alpha Megalodons with Ichthy's before because they have an amazing turn radius and fast attack
Ichthy is great for scouting out better water tames as well as for early black pearl gathering from the sea scorpion (especially in viking bay on ragnarok).
archa is good for some stuff, like low level player transport. they are really efficient in their drop, and far better than a parachute. dolphin is good for taming stuff due to speed, and loot crate farming.
i surprisingly completely agree, the dolphin is garbage, if you can't afford to tame a megalodon just get a sarco, they are insanely fast and can easily kill a mega
Im just gonna hope that this is a late April Fools joke. ALL of these have a purpose, whether its speed, mobility, efficiency, trapping, or exploring. This list was made from a PvP standpoint. Im very surprised that the itchy made it on this list, its an amazing water mount for quick transport, its not meant to fight. The Areno can serve as a distraction and save your life in many situations. The Female Megalocerous is for quick ground transport for people without access to the Galli. The Archeoplex is a reusable parachute and can partially function as a glider suit from Abbiration aswell. The Kariku’s are an easy source of organic polymer when bred, as babies drop more then adults. All of these have a purpose and this guy based this list on combat usage. Im surprised the Dodo or the Giga didn’t make it here (why the giga? its hard as fuck to knock out, takes forever to tame, youll have to dedicate a week to ark to make a saddle, and it looses most of its health and damage once tamed, not to mention it can turn against you in a heartbeat if you hurt it too much...

Dorian Bankz I used the archaeopteryx to tame 2 Argentavis and a Rex and escaped by floating across nearly the whole map with the Dino’s following. I would not have survived a walk back.
Archy's parachute mechanic is good for some caves in Ragnarok. But it's just used to bypass difficult parts so it's up to you whether you want to do them or not.

A good purpose for the female Megaloceros is to breed with a male, so you can get mutations for harvesting. The Itchy is the base level aquatic tame, comparable to the Parasaur in that environment. It's speed can also be used to rush through all spawn locations for deep sea loot while avoiding predators, and it's the only aquatic mount you can use a weapon with.
Kairuku is a super great egg layer if you make a base in the Arctic

The Icthy is super useful as a fast covert naval mount for sea faring tribes. Unless there are lots of naval players, the icthy won't reveal your presence easily in transit due to the low profile, and it's way easier to tame than a megalodon or manta. Outside of rapid transport, yeah, they're pretty useless.

The "penguin" is useful to store organic polymer, as the fridge can only hold so much. We all know that we have that acendent ghillie stuff that when we go collecting organic polymer, when we finally get back to base, will be short on by the time we do get back. They store it for a lot longer than any other dino that I know of, and pump weight and they can carry a lot of it.

Kairuku make for great storage containers for light bulky items like thatch, fibre, hide. They take up very little room, so can be placed on a smithy or in a corner, have good weight stat for a small creature. They eat all meat, so are easy to keep fed and lay eggs for a quick snack while offloading at the smithy, or for kibble. They are easy to breed, just keep two in a cage on the way into your workshop, collect the fertilized egg on the way out, put it in the fridge then hatch in bulk later when you need polymer.I love your videos by the way. Me disagreeing with some of your opinions, is certainly not a rebuttal of your excellent content.

The Ichthyosaurus isn't only a very fast swimmer, he is also one of the, if not most, easiest to tame Water Dinosaurs entry game. Just bash a few Dodos and tame yourself an ichty, without having to shoot it with narco arrows.

A few Ichthys spawned in a lake behind our base, but couldn't get out. I tamed em for the hell of it and left them on wander to keep the water clear and to passively collect fish meat. A week later, I get back to that base and their's 300 dolphins in the damn lake. Ooops. Turns out they'd been breeding.

I love the icthys. Not because I use them a lot, but actually because of how easy they are to tame cx. They swim right up to you, especially if you're on a pelagornis, and take dodo kibble which is the easiest kibble to make

I'll admit spiders aren't worth the effort on the island, but on ragnarok and I think scorched earth they are a little easier. As you said the web is good for base defense especially in primitive+ where the only turret is species x. To be honest I'd agree they aren't worth it until your set up enough that bug spray is easy come by. Which you still need bug spray to tame the far more useful queen bee, mantis, and arthropluera.

Ichthys are just supposed to be easy aquatic tames. Dodo kibble and then you have a sea mount. New players to a specific map can use them for exploring the coasts, and others can use the as a disposable dino to get to underwater caves.

Corporal C4 I prefer anything which is fast. Even if it's a little slower but can fight I'd take it because it at least has a use besides travel.
Araneo are great for caves, as soon you don't have to jump

And it's even better if you tamed it within the cave, as no wild creatures agros on it, unless you'd doing something dumb (using any weapons from his back)

I'm not a pro at ark but even I can tell how useful the one who lets you fly and is a good parachute is useful. They can be really good if you need to escape a fight quickly or climb a mountain/hill. Also sorry if I sound dumb but I think parachutes can only be used once so they take up lots of thatch and resources while the Dino can always be used.
Itchyosaurus is actually really good for taming underwater creatures. Since you can shoot of them and they are also really fast. I recently tamed a level 61 Mosa with one.
The penguins are good for kibble. Tame 7 penguins, 1 Male and 6 female, and use the surplus of eggs to make kibble for taming anglers which are very good for pearl farming. The dolphins are good because they are very fast. Good for exploring and finding good creatures to tame

You can fly forever really easily with an archeopterix and a flyer you can ride, set the one you are riding on follow, closest and when it runs out of stam, jump off with the archeopterix on your shoulders, then get back on after a few seconds, and it has full stam again
I love the parachute bird, it’s so much fun. And it’s just fun to have in your base
PSA: Ichthyosaurus are drawn toward your tamed mounts and nuzzle up against them. Take a Carbonemys out, find an Ichthy you want, and lead it to the shallows to tame it
I SOOOO beg to differ with the Archaeopteryx. If you're into building, that thing is fucking amazing, especially if you're building really tall structures. I tamed one in my Ragnarök server and I don't think I ever put him down.

Female megaloceros is the fastest creature in the game, The archeopetryx produce tree sap when you set them on wander, the kairuku provides warmth arround them which can be really usefull for hatching eggs and the ichty is a really early tame which can outtun any water dino so very usefull for pearl diving. But I have to agree with the spider, he has got nothing going for him
For the female Megaloceros, you can breed more of them with her and shes easy enough to tame for an early mount. Beyond that, ya, i agree.
As for the Ichty, they are good, but i agree that its not worth the effort.
The kairuku is good, they are like dimorhedons but in the sea. Take 20 high level kairuku and you can take down anything in the ocean. Maybe not jellyfish or eels

The Ichthy is not meant to be a powerhouse. But it's agility makes up for it, I have taken down Alpha Megalodons with Ichthy's before because they have an amazing turn radius and fast attack
Ichthy is great for scouting out better water tames as well as for early black pearl gathering from the sea scorpion (especially in viking bay on ragnarok).

archa is good for some stuff, like low level player transport. they are really efficient in their drop, and far better than a parachute. dolphin is good for taming stuff due to speed, and loot crate farming.
With the penguin, you can make an organic polymer farm by killing the babies so you don't have to keep going to the snow biome
i surprisingly completely agree, the dolphin is garbage, if you can't afford to tame a megalodon just get a sarco, they are insanely fast and can easily kill a mega

ALL of these have a purpose, whether its speed, mobility, efficiency, trapping, or exploring. This list was made from a PvP standpoint. Im very surprised that the itchy made it on this list, its an amazing water mount for quick transport, its not meant to fight. The Areno can serve as a distraction and save your life in many situations. The Female Megalocerous is for quick ground transport for people without access to the Galli. The Archeoplex is a reusable parachute and can partially function as a glider suit from Abbiration aswell. The Kariku’s are an easy source of organic polymer when bred, as babies drop more then adults.
All of these have a purpose and this guy based this list on combat usage. Im surprised the Dodo or the Giga didn’t make it here
(why the giga? its hard as fuck to knock out, takes forever to tame, youll have to dedicate a week to ark to make a saddle, and it looses most of its health and damage once tamed, not to mention it can turn against you in a heartbeat if you hurt it too much...

Dorian Bankz I used the archaeopteryx to tame 2 Argentavis and a Rex and escaped by floating across nearly the whole map with the Dino’s following. I would not have survived a walk back.
Archy's parachute mechanic is good for some caves in Ragnarok. But it's just used to bypass difficult parts so it's up to you whether you want to do them or not.
