Dr. Fuller makes a great point: "If you have a low view of the law you become legalists. If you have a high view of the law you realize, no one can fully keep God's law and you become 'seeker's of grace.'" The "social justice" gospel is legalism defined.

The Puritans interpreted all of Scripture in the light of the Law of God. The Law of God built the worldview from which to interpret the rest of Scripture. Because the Law of God is viewed by so many today as not as important as the New Testament, it has invited others to come in with a different worldview and interpret scripture in THAT light, which is no light, instead of the worldview constructed by the Law of God. Those first five books of the Bible are vital for understanding the remainder of the Bible.
Amos is a prophetic book about Israel. As someone said, if you separate the prophecy from the justice, you have a false justice.
If these pastors really cared about Blacks they would start addressing the lack of Black fathers in the home and the sin of continual welfare which is not Biblical. But, we can’t talk about that.
But don't you know that the lack of black father's is because of white people? You see, it's not their fault they're absent nor is it the fault of the mothers for having unprotected fornication. You're not supposed to talk about sin in church.

The black family structure is broken because Democrats incentivized having babies out of wedlock. When the woman can get a check from the government for every baby she doesn't need a husband to provide financially.
This was excellent! We need to study and know God’s word for ourselves and not just trust what the so-called respected pastors are telling us because either they don’t know what they are talking about or are blatantly lying to further their ungodly agenda!

I find it very interesting how Mr. Fuller used the term “the spirit of the age” so many times to describe what has been happening here. He’s so right. And the sooner we all recognize what Hegel and these other German/French philosophers have been spreading around the world for the past 200 years the sooner we can crush this bug.

Yes Tim Keller is wrong that righteous justice, is best translated as social justice, but he isn't mistaken, he is lying and deceiving.
100% agree. We are fools to attribute ignorance to enemies of the truth. Doing so disarms us and disables our ability to fight them based on what they are doing

This is the root error in Keller's reasoning for social justice and CRT. Granted I Believe Keller wanted to believe social justice and looked for a passage he could manipulate to justify his views.
He has lived in Sodom and Gomorrah too long.

The great irony is that he lives in a million plus house, pastors at one of the wealthiest churches (if not the wealthiest), in the wealthiest area of one of the top 3-4 wealthiest counties in the wealthiest nation on the earth; yet I don’t see him doing the “rich young ruler” thing and selling all of that and giving it to the poor.
Seems somewhat hypocritical to me.
Not that I’m against people having wealth; but I’m not the one who has redefined the gospel to equal “social justice” which in reality means Marxist economic equity where everyone has everything in common, he seems to have decided to define it in this way.
This is what we call a limousine liberal, kind of like the Antifa Marxist kid arranging meetings against capitalists while doing it on $1,200.00 phones wearing designer skinny jeans and $400.00 sneakers.

Amos 5:7,11,12: "you who turn justice to wormwood... you trample on the poor... you who afflict the righteous, who take a bribe, and turn aside the needy in the gate."
As I listened, I was so reminded of Matthew 23, all of it but especially verse 28, what a false piety, humility, moralism , but not true repentance, holiness…. What perversion of the Word of God ! They have no true understanding of scripture it seems and so cannot get it right… social justice is another religion altogether. It’s outward morality not inward holiness. Thank you both for this video and your work to help the body of Christ!
Does anyone else think that all these false ideas are the beginning of the "deception" spoken of in Thessalonians? It seems like all of these people are truly believing a lie. Isn't this also related to the "apostasy" in the same passage? Aren't these two things signs of the nearness of the Day of the Lord? Please I welcome your comments.
The whole atheistic-evolution-Marxist ideology seems to be where this deception began to overwhelm the West which until it happened had a God centered view of society

What is sadly missing in this discussion is any real biblical compassion. We are to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, and heal the sick. To assist the poor, the widow, the orphan, and the oppressed.
By all means, we must fight cultural Marxism and CRT, and all forms of wokism. Secular remedies always and only make matters worse. But that doesn’t mean we are not to do good, or that we are not to push for public policies that genuinely help the hurting. We should be known for our love and not solely for our protection of freedoms.

There are many verses that address these very issues, especially the ones that Jesus Himself spoke.
More nuanced, articulate counsel needs to be given in how to do all these things without giving in to the spirit of this age.
For a long time our churches weren't addressing racism, sexism, and injustice ( and yes, they are real issues) but now that they are being addressed, it seems the pendulum has swung left in order to deal with the problems.
Where are the wise voices who speak of a discerning balance between the two extremes?

Let me see if I understand correctly , as a Christians all we have to do is preach the gospel and if we see injustice just pretend is not there , if we see people dying from hunger we tell them too bad mi job is tell you about the gospel not feed you physically . James is chastising the rich James 5:1-6 is that not part of the gospel. We as Christians born again we are equipped for a good works as a sign that we are new creatures 2 Timothy 3:16-17. I think this supposedly knowledgeable people instead of making God’s word understandable they make it harder . I don’t trust them just because they are theologians there is an arrogance in all of us

A Black scholar, Sowell, has been writing on this topic for at least 30 years.
Truth matters and classism ( rish vs poor) has been the root of injustice for 1,000s of years.
I graduated seminary 2007, and top of my class. (I am not going to mention the school but it was acredited) I know that learning biblical languages was of great benefit, but amazingly it was THE ONLY CLASS OF ALL MY SEMINARY CLASSES THAT WE USED THE BIBLE! In all other classes, i studied a book that was what someone else said the bible meant. This is not unusual or unique. I was tested on what Chuck S. And John Mc said it meant. I will not go back. It produces mental gaints and spiritual pygmies. I remember that first semester of baby greek, none of the men i knew then had time do anything other than prepare for the next exam. No time for prayer or ministry. And arrogance: there has been on one more prideful that i have encountered in my life (and i was in the insurance and investment business with my father over 20 years before answering the call) than the experts that i encountered in the halls of seminary.
This has got to change and it appears that you are attempting to do just that.

I always enjoy Dr Fuller greatly.
I always considered it a plus to take courses on specific books and systematic theology in seminary, especially the one course in advanced Greek I had in Philippians. On the other hand, there was a great tension between professors and some classes were just a waste for me. I do think that at the very least I learned how to use tools to research the Word, but I could wish that instead of homiletics and 'practical theology' courses it would have been great to focus more on books of Scripture. Doing the work of wasteful things detracted me (easily, to my shame) from the doctrines of grace. Looking back, my seminary was disappointing, but so was I.
To me: Dr. Fuller is a Hero of the Faith in Christ Jesus! I learned more from him in the last few videos on this channel than I have learned from a large # of Supposed Biblical Scholars that I have listened to. Indepth, Concice, Clear, Biblical explanations of very complex, controversial Social Issues! Helped me Much! I am going to listen to more of Dr. Fullers teaching!!

We ought to start serious consideration that the academic seminary model is not biblical. This is in view of the dismal state of the seminaries in the SBC network, and even RTS and Covenant seminaries. Why is the church not the primary locus of training pastors, elders, and deacons? At least the seminaries ought, in this hour, to become more like traveling classes, going from place to place to provide intensive studies over short sessions, while the students stay under care of the local leaders. “Under care” of a presbytery is hardly the same thing.

I'm pretty sure I was there at that Anyabwile talk at Chapel. I recall that line, "If Justice is a liberal concept then God is a liberal..." something like that. I don't recall hearing anything regarding the social justice movement specifically to make me think he was talking about race. Or maybe I just tuned it out, I feel like it was more of a general, what I'd call "be good" talk more than anything else. Then again, at that age, I wasn't aware really of the SJ/RR movements, and didn't listen for undertones. Still, I'm curious. What did he actually say in that talk?

I would love to here Dr Fuller's opinion on the radical progressive pastor Dr Tim Mackie's SJW interpretation of the OT. Mackie is heavily influenced by the marxist liberation theology of Gutierrez hence why the former is enamoured with a social justice reading of scripture.
Why do people just accept claims without demanding evidence. A group may have a higher incarceration rate per capita than another group, but the explanation as to WHY, given by Platt and others may be incorrect.
While I agree with your presentation of the current problem, from my reading, Pelagius may have been misrepresented for what he believed. Also, it was not mentioned that Augustine was the first to use the anti-heresy laws to persecute Christians, the Donatists.
Of course, the current day Augustinians behavior towards Christians has been extremely low, too. I’m wondering if there are even good guys in this SBC struggle? It looks to me that the “conservative“ Calvinists didn’t get the dividing of the spoils they wanted, and now are disagreeing with their former Calvinist compatriots who won out. If these “conservative“ Calvinists had objected to this behavior 10+ years ago when the rest of us were warning about what was going on, we probably wouldn’t be here.
You know, there are no truly good guys in history. There are sinful men saved by the grace of God. One cannot toss out all the excellent things Augustine wrote because he, possibly, did some bad things. Also, none of us would be here today if our first father hadn't eaten the forbidden fruit, so there's always that! ;) We have but to look to Christ and His sacrifice for our salvation.

By this reasoning, even the folks criticized in this video shouldn’t be criticized. Every progressive and liberal Christian can be excused. The Bible distinguishes between the righteous and the wicked, the wise and the foolish, even the mature and immature, so this is a good thing to do.
I think we might be able to distinguish between the early and late Augustine, just as Solomon turn from wisdom when he got older, but still wrote books of the Bible. But to have an attitude of, Augustine persecuted the church, not a big deal? (even though the Lord Jesus identified persecuting the church with persecuting Christ Himself - Acts 9:4). And might we consider that some of Augustine’s unique doctrines influenced his behavior? (worldview affects behavior)
After all, he use the parable that said “compel them to come in“ to force people into the church; might his deterministic view of God have been related to this abuse? Is it any surprise that Augustinian Christians (Calvinists) are commonly known for their abusive behavior towards other Christians, including their “stealth Calvinism“ (lying to steal non-Calvinist churches, I left the SBC when that happened to my church).
I agree that none of us are perfect, but we should take care who we learn from. After all, the Scriptures tell us that the spiritual things can only be discerned by the spiritual (I Corinthians 2-3; Hebrews 5). And as Solomon put it, “He who walks with the wise does wisely, and the companion of fools shall be broken.”
Christianity isn’t like physics where someone like Einstein might cheat on his wife, but still be a great physicist. “The greatest is love”(I Corinthians 13:13), and “The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith”(I Timothy 1:5).
Personally, when I study theology, learn to be spiritual, I don’t do it from people who are unrepentant murderers or persecutors of the church. There are numerous Christians through church history who did not engage in these activities that we can learn from. I don’t do this so I can feel better than other people; I do this so I can learn from people who are actually wise and are less likely to mislead me.
If I understand your post, you’re supporting Pelagius and criticizing Augustine and Calvinists. IDs that correct?

I have a feeling that there may be some things off regarding what you're saying about Augustine, I'll have to read up on it, but regardless, even given the point that what you're saying is true, we cannot devalue the logic of a given point simply because of who made it. Christianity is not Physics, to be sure, but Christian doctrine is substantive and codified and, therefore, even the worst of men might teach us about Christ. Indeed, I have had truths unwittingly preached to me by unbelievers, we should test each spirit, and definitely be discerning, but I cannot discount the immense contribution Augustine has granted to the church and theology and would not cease to use him as a reference or study. Does this mean I condone everything and anything he ever did? May it never be! It simply seems unfair to bring up a person's character in a purely theological conversation, unless said character directly affects the piece of theology one is discussing.

My primary concern was in the second paragraph. As a former Southern Baptist, many southern Baptists warned about the deceptive and manipulative behavior that was going on, including Stealth Calvinism. Over a decade ago, we criticize the people who are now being criticized. We objected to Al Molher’s behavior. We warned about Russell Moore.
But only after virtually everything was taken over by Calvinists did this infighting start and “conservative“ Calvinists start noting the bad behavior by their compatriots. If the Calvinist who are now objecting to these folks did so 10-20 years ago, the Southern Baptist convention probably wouldn’t be in this bad shape. Of course, the Calvinists probably wouldn’t have taken the convention over either. It looks like the “conservative” Calvinists in the convention were fine with or look the other way at the abusive behavior when they thought it was to their advantage. Now they seem to be objecting when it’s turned against them, too.
Personally, I left the Southern Baptist convention when a deceptive Calvinist (With a masters from Southern seminary) took over my church. He was fully supported by the intern pastor who is also a Calvinist. Calvinists didn’t care about, and even supported, bad behavior when it was spreading their cause. If they hadn’t done that, the people that they are now complaining about probably wouldn’t be running the convention.

So glad that I have found this one & happy to know of another sound teacher of The Word. I have been searching the social justice gospel out ever since these names pop up that are called out because I have heard these names spoken of in both a past and present church. Appreciate the fact that Jon wrote two books on this subject.
