Amazing how old movies predict the future like the real-estate agent on video giving the tour of the house. Now you can get a tour of a house on your phone/tablet/computer without even living in the state.
You should check out Paul Verhoeven’s other sci fi action movies Total Recall and Starship Troopers, it has just as much violence and satire as this movie
Major respect to Peter Weller. Apparently the makeup and costuming process for Robocop was quite intense. It was difficult to move in the suit and he couldn’t see or hear for
2:56 "I'm VERY disappointed!" I love that line. You're one of the few people who had an appropriate reaction to it. It somehow passes by most other reactors.
It's the perfect line and perfectly delivered to convey that the horrific death we just witnessed was basically just viewed as a huge monetary waste in terms of the R&D budget of ED209, the loss of future sales revenue, and probably a settlement to the family. Complete soulless corporation mentality through and through.
The lore is that Murphy has an exceptional will to live, and is a devout Catholic, combined with his desire to see his family again. This is how he was still alive at the hospital.
6:30 His body armor took the brunt of the damage. His limbs are what got messed up most, though I am sure some of his innards got messed up. Also, there's MANY cases of people who had nasty head injuries, including gunshots, and have survived.
12:50 Bob also said he had the BEST cops put into the MOST dangerous parts of the city, on purpose, to ensure that a they get a candidate to use for the Robocop project. And Murphy's one of the best, hence why he was reassigned to Metro West (We heard one cop say "We lost FIVE GUYS LAST WEEK!" and another saying, "We're getting CREAMED out there!"), to ensure Murphy to end up getting mutilated alive. IF Bob did not get killed, I think he would have become just as bad as Dick was, or at least what I would call "Dick Jones Lite" over the years.
"prime candidates according to risk factor". Maybe not the best cops but cops who had a gung -ho attitude. murphy proved this by not waiting for backup and entering the steel mill when he should have waited.
@happyapple4269 That was Lewis call ....he asked her...she was lucky. had they went opposite directions while in the mill she would've been the one that was slaughtered
Having watched the sequels recently, they don't live up to the original at all. Likely because of the different writers and directors. Definitely won't be rewatching them.
20:45, there was an episode of Dr Who, I think with the 9th to 10th doctor, in which some characters thought a Dalek couldn't handle stairs -- but unlike here, the thing just started floating and they where like "oh crap, nope!"
On your comment about use of bodies for science... There was a story not long ago about some guy donating the body of his grandmother for Alzheimer's research (if I remember correctly). Only to later find out her body was at a military artillery range performing research on high explosive munitions.
Another fun fact is that secretary that Clarence was hitting on he actually married her in real life, they married a year after they finished filming robocop and still married till this day.
The actors here definitely sell their roles. My main metric for the guild is if at the end of the show, am I thinking of them as the actor, or as the character. If I'm thinking of them as the role, they did well. I thought of none of the roles as the actors. Chefs kiss to the acting.
We can get a good idea what time this film takes place in. The 1988 Robocop Cartoon by Marvel and Sunbow said "the near future". In 1988, Data East released the Robocop arcade game; when starting a new game, one gets brief opening cut scene showing Detroit at night, Murphy getting shot and him later laying on a medical table being augmented. The cut scene says 1990. In several comics, and the 2001 direct to DVD miniseries, "Robocop: Prime Directives" (which happens 10 years after this film), we see Murphy going to his gravestone in the cemetery; I can't recall his birth year, but his death year was 1990. Bob Morten said he could have a working prototype within 90 days. Also, we seen the OCP technicians, having their new years eve party. Additionally, we know how much time passed during this movie. At the start, "The Old Man" said that the Delta City construction project would commence in 6 months. Later, when Clarence and Dick are having their talk in the OCP offices, Dick says Delta City is going to begin building in 2 months, so this movie spans 4 months from start to finish. I say Murphy was wounded in late 1990, and he was completed and unveiled in early 1991. Overall, I'd say that the latest this movie ends at is around April of 1991, give or take a few weeks. And those who say it takes place in the 2040's are blowing smoke, here's why. Let's look at this movie: 1: Fashion. The haircuts, the clothing, the make up. It all late 1980's, so early 1990's is VERY feasible and I remember, as a kid, seeing a lot of these fashions during the very early 1990s. 2: Technology. We see people watching television on old school CRTs. Even Murphy very nice house, had an old CRT in the living room. We also see people using CD's, and Bob's entertainment system looks on par with someone with nice 80's equipment. The music at the dance club screamed 80's synth-tech. The Detroit Police force, at least the Metro-West precinct, at least, used the 1986 Ford Taurus as their primary cars (my dad had one when I was a kid in 1989 to 1991 or so). 3: Cold War mentality. We seen the Star Wars satellites, the "Nukem" game, as well as the news reports talking about nuclear bombs in various countries. The Cold War (which was a JOKE, just the big 2 super powers trying to see who had the bigger dick, in my opinion) actually ended in 1991. Combined with the insane consumerism the late 1980's was known for, and addressed in this very film, it taking place in 1990-1991 fits just fine, I feel.
@16:51 That unsettling feeling? That's the director Paul Verhoeven's work. Gritty and palpable satirical worlds with "horror movie" levels of violence. 90% of his movies are like this, 86 year old legend 👌
Great reaction CLARISS! You really appreciated the movie for all the things that make it great and for a first time watch you picked up on so much as it is a deeper movie then anyone expects. So yeah, really enjoyed watching your reaction!
The ED209 was a combination of miniature stop motion and full sized mockup. The full sized version could only twist its torso, they didn't have the budget to give it fuller articulation. ♥️🤟😎♥️
Not entirely true. In addition to the torso twist, the full-sized one could also fall down the stairs quite impressively. Credit where credit is due. 😄
0:38 It's one of the reasons he was chosen for the role, they needed someone skinny enough to fit in the Robocop suit. 1:37 It's stop motion. Harry Walton, Phil Tippett, Randal M. Dutra... The guys who worked on Robocop 1 are legends who worked on dozens of classic movies, Willow, Jurrasic Park, Hollow Man and Starship Troopers (another Paul Verhoeven's movies), Terminator 1 and 2, the Indiana Jones, Alien and Star Wars saga, Gremlins. I think they all worked for ILM, the George Lucas company. The list is too long. 7:18 I like how you reacted, this is the point. I was probably between 8 and 10 when I saw this movie multiple times. I will never forget 13:20 14:47 . No face expression, you can't even see his eyes and yet I think this is the movie's most terrifying scene. Paul Verhoeven is a genius... 10:20 1987, a few years before the end of the cold war. I'm from 1986, I can't believe I was born when the USSR still existed. BTW, if you're into gaming, RoboCop: Rogue City (2023) is a cool AA game. Reviews are tough, sometimes 6/10. But if you liked this movie, you'll probably enjoy it. I'm not even a Robocop nerd, there are probably tons of other things to say about how they made this movie.
The voice over in the scene were they try to safe Murphy, was spoken by a real Doctor and he even supposedly said that they sometimes get people in Murphy's state and some even survived.
10:36 I know they say the answer to any question that starts "Am I the Only" on the internet is a resounding no, but in this case it's possible (not really, someone else won't know). Paul Verhoeven really doesn't like governments, corporations or glass so all of his movies deal with either an evil government or an evil corporation and he'll break a ton of glass every chance he gets just glass everywhere, glass for days. The OCP exterior is a composite: The top straight part was added in Post, the lower angled part is Dallas City Hall The comically long arms have never made sense I remember laughing at this when I watched it as a kid at my friends house.
11:50 They tried to wipe his memory, it takes time to come back mostly due to trauma, a lot of people miss it, but if you go back to the scenes during his robotic resurrection in the corner you'll see he's checking and saving his memories.
Not bad effects for the 80's. Before very powerful computers and CGI's. That's what I like from the 80's movies when I grew up, nothing was done, everything was about experimentation & trying everything, everything done manually, with fantastic make-up artists and great storylines. Robocop, Star Wars and everything else I remember when I was a teen. Great movies because they had to invent both the story & technology at the same time. Glad that you enjoyed it, have a nice day & maybe see you in comments under another of your reactions, because I 'll look at what else you have here for sure.
Perfect reaction to this iconic masterpiece of a Sci Fi movie. You should definitely do a reaction video to the second Robocop movie which is criminally underrated in my book
@@VictorLugosi John Spartan : Whoa, Whoa. I'll tell you what gonna do: John Spartan : [to Chief Earle] Why don't you get a little dirty? John Spartan : [to Edgar] You a lot clean. John Spartan : And somewhere in the middle... I don't know. You'll figure it out. Although Demolition Man is a great movie, a flaw in its satire is although exaggerating to make a similar point as the book Brave New World does, it exaggerates so much that there's no consideration of where the middle should be. Both LA and San Angeles were deeply flawed in very different ways, but even San Angeles had some good sides like no MDKs in years. Other issues are never clarified like how although Edgar and his group refuse to live by San Angeles' laws, it's not clear if everyone underground thinks that way. The movie doesn't clarify if everyone living underground is there because they agree with Edgar, or if it's because they're poor and San Angeles won't help them. If everyone underground agrees with Edgar, then up on the surface everyone is at least housed and fed.
That's not really politically charged, it's kind of the reverse. The movie itself directly promotes taking a moderate middle ground, the exact opposite of what social media & arguably society in general has devolved to.
@@flinx I think it's actually because they do agree with Edgar but to varying lesser degrees, and they were censored into poverty, forcing them underground. It's pretty self-evident that the situation in San Angeles is one of heavy censorship and every minute faux pas is punished with heavy consequences, to the point of fining you for simply using mild bad language. In other words, they most likely all got cancelled for something they said or did that would otherwise be considered harmless to anyone but a Bluesky user.
I wondered how he could be alive, too. The vest Murphy wore probably soaked up some of the shotgun fire but being hit by so many blasts at once would be devastating-shattered ribs, ruptured organs. And the shot to his head was near the top, towards the crown. But still, that level of trauma isn't survivable for long (if at all, in reality he wouldn't have made it to a hospital).
I'm a 90s kid and I loved Robocop as like, my biggest hero of them all lol I even had a Robocop 3 poster that once while having a nightmare protected me from the monster (in the dream)
ED-209 was stop motion animsted. Here's a paragraph explaining it, which i bottowed from vfxblog page. "The enforcement droid was realized as both a full-scale puppet used on set and an articulated stop-motion miniature animated by the Tippett Studio crew, often against a rear-projected background plate advanced one or two frames at a time."
Malala Yousafsai survived a head shot wound, and is still fighting for her fellow arab women's civil rights. It's almost more of a miracle then Murphy's resurrection as robocop in this movie, she's badass
Reportedly one of the production designers recalled how it took about 12 hours to get Peter Weller into the suit plus makeup. The suit would be redesigned so it took considerably less time during the making of the sequel. Also Bob Morton was portrayed by the late Miguel Ferrer who is /was George Clooney's real-life cousin.
Political and social satire disguised as kitsch and camp... Verhoeven is the master... His "Future Trilogy" is essential viewing... Robocop, Total Recall and Starship Troopers... Glad you enjoyed this... Cheers!
The blood squibs from the 80's and 90's were just top notch. And actually painful sometimes too from what I've heard since they're basically tiny explosives. Now everything is done in a computer; there's probably thousands of "blood effects" that can be used in post. Anyways, classic flim. Traumatized me for life when snuck into the living room and watched it on HBO as a kid.
The scene where Boddicker spits blood on the booking desk was an idea that Kurtwood Smith had, so he ran it by the director (Verhoeven) and he liked it, but they agreed to tell nobody else to get the best real reaction.
1987 truly was a solid year for action films between Robocop, Predator, and Lethal Weapon we had more than our fill of heroes, villains, explosions, and badasses to say the very least. Kurtwood Smith is the standout here in my opinion. Clarence Boddicker is ruthless, manipulative, and sadistic which is why i love the character throughout this movie! Thank you for your cooperation. I’ll buy that for a dollar! #Robocop #PeterWeller #KurtwoodSmith #PaulVerhoeven
I was way too young the first time I watched this movie...The guy melting in the chemical waste haunted my nightmares for weeks ! Gotta love a Verhoven flick though !
12:48, yeah it's super fun to have to clarify for the glorious robots and other listeners potentially not as inclined with verbal comprehension that what is spoken of is fictional of course.
i heard reports that a number of parents looking for an entertaining summer PG scifi adventure apparently thought differently starting with the unisex police locker room scene and ultimately pulling their kids out of the theater after ed-209's boardroom demonstration ...
If you liked this movie I would also recommend Starship Troopers. It’s from the same director as Robocop and imo just as good. Definitely worth checking out
This movie is kind of a marvel, just in terms of how much it does so well, and how much it's unexpectedly so. Like, from the movie poster, the title, you're really set up for low expectations... but then they also manage to pack in a lot of smart and emotional undertones without being too full of itself and without being too preachy. They say both a lot and a little at the same time (so if you want to read into it you can, but you don't have to), while being entertaining. It's a fantastic balancing act where the occasional camp helps blend it all together. Also, that Bob takeout scene gave me nightmares as a kid haha, the horror element and futility of being unable to reach the device because he'd been hobbled, oof. Great stuff!
I would love to do a Robocop cosplay, down to the opening thigh compartments and sliding gun holsters, but that would be time consuming and expensive to replicate. (Due to the fact that the gun holster never actually functioned the way we see in the movie behind the scenes. To achieve the effect, a full-size prop replica of Robocop's leg was made that a puppeteer could pull a lever and make the holster open on its thigh. But the suit Peter Weller is wearing doesn't actually have it. Movie magic, awesome but disappointing at the same time.) Maybe the gun holster is wishful thinking, but the outfit would be awesome.
I suppose Clariss is too young for this but one of the things I like about watching reactions to this movie is when a lot of the reactors see Boddicker in this they immediately recognize him as Red from That 70’s Show. The opposite is true for me. For the longest time when watching that show I referred to him as Boddicker from Robocop.
I saw this movie in middle school. Me and some friends stayed up late and watched it on VHS. The violence and gore blew our minds lol 2:21 why would you put live ammo in it for a demonstration?! 9:39 go watch Robocop Remake Scene 27 lol 17:16 Ronny Cox, who plays Dick Jones, is a very good actor. Especially when it comes to playing the villain.
Weird. It's like that van can repair itself somehow. Anyway the camera work is probably my favorite thing in it. Maybe how they worked the score. Great job with that. That visceral effect by way of using technical effects. I'm not going to give a sermon I read a lot about how our brains can pick apart certain natural things and will invoke a reaction, like fire. And if it's not our brains can tell and that reaction is different. Like the Uncanny Valley where are brains pick up what is a living human and what's trying to be (second invokes the reaction where we consider it a corpse). So yeah I think it works well. Like the modern versions of IT and without spoiling where the CGI to me was "Wow that is cool 3d model. How did they get texture like that?" So in the reading understanding how to use this when you relay to your audience. I love Verhoeven’s mind and style. Total Recall and Starship Troopers absolutely. Again without spoiling especially how well he can pair one type of story with a different style entirely. Here a story about loss and trauma and a man coming to terms with it whom initially feels like a machine. But it's dressed up as this science fiction action piece. Another is a relationship story dressed as something else. So on. And to pull it off seamlessly. This ones specialty is of course the world building. The media blurbs, the cooperate military entities and how they are intertwined with law enforcement and crime. And they came up with every brand and product in this. They said this was to make it feel like a comic book. Unnerving is the fact this was made in 1987 and was set in about 2028 yet how many things especially in those news reports they got exactly right. And we are testing out robot cops right now. Spooky. But it also flavors and gives some individuality among films and I like that.
If you enjoyed the satire and social commentary in this movie, try 'Natural Born Killers'. I was 12 when Robocop came out and 19 when NBK was released, both films reflect this era in history quite well. Thanks for the reaction!
An underpaid police officer who wanted to make a difference was killed and then a company brought him back to life to work the same job as a dehumanized tool, completely devoid of rights. There's a name for that...
Loved your reaction! A good way to contextualize the political and satirical themes and tone of this movie is to understand a bit about Paul Verhoven. At the time, he was an accomplished Dutch filmmaker, but this was only his 2nd film made in the US. This film is very much an hyper-exaggerated 80's corporate America, especially as viewed through the lens and interpretation of an outsider (specifically, a European). Interestingly, he was (if I recall correctly) something like the 15th or 20th director this film was offered to, but threw out the script after reading it, having no interest in making a generic, hollow, American shoot-em-up cop movie. However, his wife found the script, read it, and she convinced him to take the project after realizing (and helping him realize) that it was much more layered, and the potential it really had. His later film Starship Troopers has a very similar tone, satirizing 90's American militarism through much the same lens. The fascist overtones are similarly hyper-exaggerated...which makes a lot more sense when considering that Verhoven spent his early childhood growing up in the Nazi-occupied Netherlands. Thanks again for your great content Clariss, and can't wait for more!
13:00 I would not exactly call them 'killers'. Murphy did not die (so many on youtube says he died), he was badly mutilated, but not killed. Had he died, none of this story would happened, he'd just be another dead cop on an apparently long causality list of the Detroit Police force...for a dead brain would be useless to OCP. Murphy's alive and well, just now he's essentially a canned ham, but a living canned ham.
ROBOCOP is packed with symbolisms in only 1 hour 43 mins, I would defy anyone to get them all, on the first viewing, this is always Paul Verhoeven's style of film making, that works so well, you were...suspiciously predictive of some of the film, as if youve seen some of it before, it's not surprising the sfx were so great they were by Rob Bottin's people, that had worked on classics like - THE THING, LEGAND, TOTAL RECALL,
I'd buy THAT reaction for a dollar! The excessive gore and violence was, I think, a stealth parody/satire of the type of over-the-top action films of the era (Predator, Commando, anything with Chuck Norris) which is why it was exaggerated to such absurd levels.
People always ask how Murphy could still be alive. In reality, the human body is very resilient. Murphy was also wearing body armor, so it protected him enough. He was still breathing and had a heartbeat, which is why they tried to save him. When President John F. Kennedy was shot, he was still breathing and had a faint heartbeat but ultimately died.
The crazy part about this movie is when it came out (I was a little kid at the time) I remember the marketing being targeted heavily at kids. I'm talking commercials during cartoons, toys, video games, etc. There was even an animated show that I personally saw before actually seeing the movie. And when I finally saw it, (I was 10 years old) and even then as shocking as the violence and gore was, it was the corporate stooges gawking at him in those POV scenes that creeper me out way more. Of course as I've gotten older and am grasping the implications of what someone would have to be going through in that situation, as well as capitalist goons being far worse in real life when it comes to human suffering so long as they make or save a buck, their callousness is even more disgusting. But also, I like how despite this being a satirical even comedic (darkly comedic but comedic regardless), the actual violence isn't played for laughs at all. It just nails the grittiness for me
You should do Robocop 2 next. It's not as good of a movie overall, but it's even more violent and mean spirited than the original. The infamous opening scene has a bunch of epic street violence including a guy mugging an old lady, then getting mugged himself by two women who destroy his testicles and stomp his eye out with their high heels. It's hilarious.
Odd. I've always seen that every time I've watched. I thought it was just the amount of time that mr Kinney's being riddled with bullets that changes. It is, of course, ironically significant that he's bleeding all over the ruined model building that represents OCP's plans for the city as he gets shot to bits as well.
God, I love your face, probably one of the most beautiful in the online world. But I also love your take at the movies, your trained eye for effects and shots and some r-rated words 😁 Keep it up, well done.
While everyone believes Clarence Boddicker and Dick Jones are the ONLY villains, the real villains were always the entire OCP Corporation. They own the police, the city and evem play with people's lives and they do that before lunch time 😅
One of the many ridiculous things in this movie (in a good way) are some of the sound effects. I'm thinking of two in particular. First, after ED209's boardroom shooting there's the sound of something like a circular saw winding down. The other is the extremely silly zap laser sound as Robocop makes his entrance in the convenience store, which is later repeated when he enters the boardroom in the finale. Nobody ever seems to comment on those, but I guess this movie provides so many things to talk about that the sound gets overlooked.
This movie holds mixed feelings for me. When it came out, I was 15 or 16, my parents were going through a divorce. This is the first movie my Dad took me to during that time, he regretted it because of the gore and the language. I really enjoyed the movie. My Dad and I talked about it for months after. Beaides the gore and language my dad enjoyed it as well, but regretted taking me to see it because of my age.
Yep, these are actually real movies, not a cartoons like nowadays. Good thing i got to watch all of these gems first time back in the 80-90's when i was a teenager 👍

The remake from 2014 was terrible 😊
You look like Jussie Smollett's sister
ROBOCOP 2 (1990)
ROBOCOP 3 (1992)
@КиануДепп RC3 = an absolutely abysmal terrible film.
Now you got to do Big Trouble in Little China.

Amazing how old movies predict the future like the real-estate agent on video giving the tour of the house. Now you can get a tour of a house on your phone/tablet/computer without even living in the state.
We are closer than you think... isn't that worrying?
You should check out Paul Verhoeven’s other sci fi action movies Total Recall and Starship Troopers, it has just as much violence and satire as this movie
Came here to say this. The trilogy must be experienced in all its wonderful dystopian propagandized glam-horror.
His other two sci-fi films are violent but not as graphic as this movie
4:16 "Oh dang, they're going to yeet him out of the car aren't they?"
Red Forman: *YEET*
Major respect to Peter Weller. Apparently the makeup and costuming process for Robocop was quite intense. It was difficult to move in the suit and he couldn’t see or hear for
2:56 "I'm VERY disappointed!" I love that line. You're one of the few people who had an appropriate reaction to it. It somehow passes by most other reactors.
That's because most people don't realize how fucked capitalism is.
It's OCP, they own Detroit, otherwise it's anarchy.

Thank you!
Having watched the sequels recently, they don't live up to the original at all. Likely because of the different writers and directors. Definitely won't be rewatching them.
"T.J. Laser" was a nod to the William Shatner lead police TV show "T.J. Hooker", a cheesy but popular show at the time
Omg, I remember that.
20:45, there was an episode of Dr Who, I think with the 9th to 10th doctor, in which some characters thought a Dalek couldn't handle stairs -- but unlike here, the thing just started floating and they where like "oh crap, nope!"

Someone must have been reading the National Inquirer again.
Fun Fact: the actor who played Clarence Boddicker is also known for playing Red Forman in That 70s Show
Ah. The man who's foot wrote my favorite book. It's called "On the Road to in Your Ass"
And been on Star Trek a few times and has done quite a bit of DC voice acting.
@maybetoby He's a total legend & a,great actor. ❤
He has also been in several B-grade 80s & 90s sci-fi films also.
Another fun fact is that secretary that Clarence was hitting on he actually married her in real life, they married a year after they finished filming robocop and still married till this day.
Dad was an Army vet with three daughters, my brother's a Marine and the three of us consider the "skirt shot" hilarious.

Thank you so much!!
Still cracks me up how unhinged this movie is, without being offputting.
I will never forget 13:20
"How can he be alive?"
The body armor did help... a little bit.
Btw, that robocop suit took TEN hours to get into!
This is basically a movie about a man who died and his bosses still made him come in to work.
The OCP exterior is a composite: The top straight part was added in Post, the lower angled part is Dallas City Hall
The comically long arms have never made sense I remember laughing at this when I watched it as a kid at my friends house.
11:50
They tried to wipe his memory, it takes time to come back mostly due to trauma, a lot of people miss it, but if you go back to the scenes during his robotic resurrection in the corner you'll see he's checking and saving his memories.
He survived all of that gunfire because of the armor he was wearing. It kept most of the damage to his torso to a minimum.
Perfect reaction to this iconic masterpiece of a Sci Fi movie. You should definitely do a reaction video to the second Robocop movie which is criminally underrated in my book
When ED 209 moved and walked it was 'Stop-Motion'. But they actually did build a real sized model as well.
"Politically charged undertones of Robocop" A great movie to follow this up would be Demolition Man (1993).
100%
Especially if you voted for Liberal Democrat’s who want the future..
@@VictorLugosi John Spartan : Whoa, Whoa. I'll tell you what gonna do:
John Spartan : [to Chief Earle] Why don't you get a little dirty?
That movie of Robocop is the date I was born in 1987 and thanks for the memory Clarissa and great movie too.
What a masterpiece! Like so many others, this was the perfect VHS rental movie for a bunch of 8 year olds having a sleepover 😂
70s 80s and 90s Was times for creating most coolest movies 😎
Glad you watched the director’s cut, which is the original version and not the theatrical cut.
Poor Kinney got turned to Swiss Cheese
Poor Murphy got turned to pastrami
And that poor henchman got turned to a bath bomb
The guy who did the stop motion animated ED-209 was the same artist who did the giant AT-AT walkers in The Empire Strikes Back.
This movie is beautiful in its simplicity. One of the best for practical effects.
This film is a masterpiece, when directors had heart and ba. lls.
Girls: "This is so unsettling."
Boys: "This is fucking AWESOME!"
Was a high school and college student in the 80s. It was a glorious time to see movies.
Verhoeven loves his on the nose satire, and Robocop was also heavily based upon the satirical comic 2000ADs Judge Dredd.
One of the few films where pure logic was used to solve the last standoff.
Clariss: stay out of trouble she called the line before he did 😂
I was way too young the first time I watched this movie...The guy melting in the chemical waste haunted my nightmares for weeks ! Gotta love a Verhoven flick though !
This version of Robocop is better than the reboot
you dont say? LOL
The actor that plays Dick Jones plays such a great villain it is crazy.
12:48, yeah it's super fun to have to clarify for the glorious robots and other listeners potentially not as inclined with verbal comprehension that what is spoken of is fictional of course.
Props to his partner she was the real hero saying murphy its you. If she hadnt he would have been robocop forever
From high school bully to badass futurecop.😂
There was the slight issue of her getting them into trouble by being unable to resist the urge to sneak a peek at the guys junk though...
@@dr.burtgummerfan439she let him down by looking down
It's a shame we never got a Robocop Vs The Terminator movie. But we did get a video game of it
i heard reports that a number of parents looking for an entertaining summer PG scifi adventure apparently thought differently starting with the unisex police locker room scene and ultimately pulling their kids out of the theater after ed-209's boardroom demonstration ...
If you liked this movie I would also recommend Starship Troopers. It’s from the same director as Robocop and imo just as good.
Definitely worth checking out
20:34----ED204 was brought to life by good old stop-motion animation, Clariss! ✌️
Looking FWD to seeing your reaction to The Substance! ✨
Murphy started the whole thing by breaking into Clarence's home and shooting his friends. They were just watching tv and having a good time!
The violence and gore blew our minds lol
2:21 why would you put live ammo in it for a demonstration?!
9:39 go watch Robocop Remake Scene 27 lol
17:16 Ronny Cox, who plays Dick Jones, is a very good actor. Especially when it comes to playing the villain.
Great reaction. So refreshing watching this with someone smart 👊
Can anyone imagine ED 209 patrolling the streets of Detroit? It would be terrifying.
ROBOCOP is packed with symbolisms in only 1 hour 43 mins,
I would defy anyone to get them all, on the first viewing, this is always Paul Verhoeven's style of film making, that works so well, you were...suspiciously predictive of some of the film, as if youve seen some of it before, it's not surprising the sfx were so great they were by Rob Bottin's people, that had worked on classics like - THE THING, LEGAND, TOTAL RECALL,
I'd buy THAT reaction for a dollar!
The excessive gore and violence was, I think, a stealth parody/satire of the type of over-the-top action films of the era (Predator, Commando, anything with Chuck Norris) which is why it was exaggerated to such absurd levels.
One in ten gunshot wounds to the head turn out to be nonfatal. That's a ridiculously higher percentage than I'd have thought.
If you enjoyed Robocop, you will really enjoy Starship Troopers. Same director made both movies
15:10 best line
_Robocop 2_ continues the sociopolitical commentary with a plot that satirizes the War on Drugs.
The most iconic Crotch Shot in film history.
“Can you fly Bobby?..”
The commercials reminded me of Starship troopers.
It just nails the grittiness for me
Great reaction. Thank you. Maybe one of my scripts will be made someday. I have 15 so far.
The only real difference between the tv edit and the extended edition is that Ed 209 shoots mr Kinney for about 4-6 seconds longer.
.. .and Murphy's whole arm gets blown off from the shoulder.
Odd. I've always seen that every time I've watched. I thought it was just the amount of time that mr Kinney's being riddled with bullets that changes. It is, of course, ironically significant that he's bleeding all over the ruined model building that represents OCP's plans for the city as he gets shot to bits as well.
@@raphaelperry8159 Ok may be different with your TV version - I'm talking theatrical cut vs directors cut.
God, I love your face, probably one of the most beautiful in the online world.
But I also love your take at the movies, your trained eye for effects and shots and some r-rated words 😁
Keep it up, well done.
While everyone believes Clarence Boddicker and Dick Jones are the ONLY villains, the real villains were always the entire OCP Corporation. They own the police, the city and evem play with people's lives and they do that before lunch time 😅
Yup the robot was stop motion. Hope you watch the sequels =D
"Stay out of trouble" 😂 Please watch Total Recall!
I grew up on 80s movies like this. Movies today are extremely watered down for audiences with cgi everywhere. I miss the 80s
Yep, these are actually real movies, not a cartoons like nowadays. Good thing i got to watch all of these gems first time back in the 80-90's when i was a teenager 👍
