    1:48 they don't aim for the face because they're torturing him. Then Clarence, who's just letting his subjects have a bit of fun, comes in and shoots him in the head ("Ok, fun's over"). It all makes sense. No sin.

    • @PYLrulz1984
      @PYLrulz1984 4 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      That was immediately the thought that came to mind. They did that shit to torture him. Clarence then "executes" him. Why that's a sin I don't know.

    • @edmilsoneletrica
      @edmilsoneletrica 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      How does shooting him in the head at the end makes sense? They severely damaged his brain, which is the one thing needed to make Robocop. This sin is worth more than 8000.

    • @thermonuclearcollider4418

      @@edmilsoneletrica The sin is not about him being shot in the head per se. Also, in the movie they never explain what parts (including brain parts) are actually needed to make Robocop. BTW, although rare, there are records of people who have survived getting impaled or shot in the head.

      @@thermonuclearcollider4418 there are people
      Who survived getting part of their brain removed, even a whole hemisphere. I don’t know if this was done purposely but supposedly the right side of the brain is the more artistic and emotional side (human). Whereas the left side is the more analytical and logical side (robotic). And as we know Murphy was shot on the right side.

    6:55 when they are testing Robocop's ability to differentiate voices, you can see that he can show each voice in a separate visualizer, therefore he must be able to completely isolate the voices. He isolated Dick's voice in the version he showed them.

      @@elvisleeboy Speaking of. If the studio still had the original footage, it'd be great to see them remaster this movie, ala Star Wars and fix the very few scenes like that.
      1. Paint out Miller in the news footage after he gets thrown out the window. In the original he's clearly on the 2nd floor, in the footage you can see his stunt double landing 2 feet below the window.
      2. Fix Jones at the end with the rubber arms
      3. add in the windshield bullet holes in that one scene chasing the van for continuity.
      Those would be fairly easy to fix in post and would fix the very few mistakes with this movie.

    • @Guido_XL
      @Guido_XL 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This movie is from the mid-eighties. The USB-concept was still on the drawing boards then. The only really stupid twist is ... the twist that he makes after having inserted his interface device, as if he was locking a water-hose. Twisting a round-symmetrical device is not going to do much. I remember watching this scene in the late eighties, wondering why the script-writers had to allow for this unnecessary story weakness.
      It's the problem that any scifi-movie has to endure: how do you portray the future from the present, if we do not know the future developments? The movie lacks portraying the internet and mobile phones, as those concepts where still in their infancy in the eighties. "Starship Troopers" suffers from the same problem: it's supposed to be the future, but you immediately detect the mid-nineties in almost everything.
      I watched "Aliens" yesterday (partly) after a long time again. How was it ever possible that I watched this movie in the eighties and thought it to be cool? The special effects are so ... eighties!

    • @bwc1976
      @bwc1976 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Guido_XL Very true at least as far as civilian/household use, but I do remember Boddicker's gang being given a tracking map device to find Robocop that was remarkably close to the size and shape of a modern day smartphone.

    • @Guido_XL
      @Guido_XL 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bwc1976 Yes, but the point is that the story-writers in the mid-eighties could not predict that such a device would actually be more versatile than just a dedicated tracking device with only one purpose. That implies that people would have had a special device for any specific purpose. PCs were already existent then. Mobile phones were also in use, albeit not as practical and ubiquitous yet as nowadays. Why could the story-writers not think of the concept of a mobile PC that could do a lot more than be a tracking device? If I would have had the task in the eighties to imagine how the present technology might evolve in the next decades, I would have considered the PC-technology of the Apple Macintosh, IBM PCs and Silicon Graphics and combined that concept with the tedious technology of (yet analog) mobile phones. How would those parts of general technology be able to evolve? You have PC-tech and you have mobile phone tech, both starting to become ubiquitous in the eighties. No one could have missed that then. All it took was to be imaginative and ponder on it for a while.

Paul Verhoeven didn't want to direct this movie at first but then he saw an opportunity to create his own version with heavy social commentary... All these advertisements are heavy contemporary social commentary of american society in the 80s, and the whole movie is filled with dark, dystopian humor. I'm glad you finally got it, that you are criticizing a social commentary / satire - it might looks like some kind of action robot sci-fi, but that's just the top of the iceberg.

    Regarding Directive 4: Here's the tl;dr version: Dick had to make Directive 4 vague enough that it would protect him, but not obvious enough that he was trying to protect himself.
    For the more lengthy explanation, I realize the sin involved is more a "this isn't explained" kind of thing, but the reason Dick Jones didn't have Directive 4 make Robocop "do everything I want in order for me to win" is because it wasn't his project.
    He can offer his input and have safeguards put in play with regards to being Senior Vice President of the company, but ultimately, Bob Morton isn't going to allow a hated competitor put "This thing turns off in my presence" into it's core programming. In fact, even a company as stupid as OCP would see that as a massive warning sign that Dick was up to something.
    As well, it's not unreasonable to assume Morton's team resisted the Directive to the point where it became "slow reboot" instead of "instant shutdown" to allow Robocop time for corrective behaviour to be established in the event of a legit error. Remember this was his baby. His ticket to knocking Dick out of the number 2 spot and securing his future forever. He wanted the Robocop program to succeed and having an easily accessible off-switch would be very bad for it.

    In store robocop bends barrel of a gun while robber is holding it. I buy that robocop have enough strength to bend barrel of a gun, but I do not buy that the robber has enough strength to hold that gun in place while robocop bends the barrel. Robocop would just pry that gun off from the robber.

    • @RemusWolves
      @RemusWolves 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    • @depenthene
      @depenthene 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      RemusWolves He would have specially build hand so that it would support barrel while bending barrel with different part of his hand. Robocop has pretty standard human hand analogue. Bending point for barrel will be on top of his index finger.

      +RemusWolves Umm No. To bend the barrel using the center of his hand as an axis of rotation he exerts equal and opposite forces (up with his thumb, down with his pinky) at the end of the barrel. The force that is exerted at the end of the barrel creates a larger moment (as a force it is equal to the other force, but because it is further from the axis of rotation its tendency to rotate the gun is larger) the gun is not in equilibrium unless the robber generates a opposite moment, which he has neither the leverage nor the strength to do. If you're saying moments are equal because the force which is closer to the axis of rotation is greater, this would create a shear force at the robber's end of the barrel and would also pry the gun from his hands.

The Mossberg 500 is a pump-action shotgun, and not even bull-pup to begin with, so I don't understand how you could mix up two weapons that are designed and operated completely differently from each other. A minor technicality I could understand but these weapons could not be more different.

      Doesn't matter; Big corporations have extensive bureaucratic guidelines for how to fire someone and are so paranoid about building a paper trail of documentation that the process of firing someone usually takes weeks. They're justified in their paranoia, since there are a number of laws that allow at-will employees to fight wrongful termination for various reasons. Most employees, especially ones at the top, actually have detailed contracts to protect themselves in case of a firing.
