My only real complaint about the hairstyles in the game is that Octolings only have short hair options so if you wanna wear a hat 9/10 you'll just be covering up all of your hair making you look bald 💀
i think the crunchy hair really matches the vibes of the splatlands too!! its supposed to be a super harsh n hot environment to contrast alterna so its fun thag the wear and tear shows on the tentacle :] i wish they did more like it tbh
The Octolocs hairstyle is, hands down, my favorite of them all. I chose it, since it’s also the closest to my wavy hair. You know how people, usually LGBT people, say that something is “very gender”? That’s what I feel about them. A just right haircut that anyone can sport, regardless of gender.
The crunchy hair is my favorite for the inkling it’s kinda like a choppy/messy cut (plus it’s short so it gets a bonus for that) and personally that one to me was a good gender neutral style :D
Splatoon 3 was my first Splatoon game, and I have super thick and long curly hair. I always kinda expect hairstyles in games to exclusively have straight hair or maybe wavy, but when I saw the octoling curls I was genuinely so happy to have hair in a game similar to my hair irl

My favorite hairstyles are all over the place 😅 As an Octoling I usually wear the gender neutral/masc locs, the Jojo cut, or the single loc (Octo expansion). As an inkling I usually wear the slick back, hipster, the masc ponytail or the popular girl hairstyle.
I think the OG fem 8 hairstyle (the down one) looks WAY better in splatoon 2 tbh, it looked a lot more voluminous and the curls at the ends of the tentacles were bigger. They deflated it in splat 3 :[ Nah but fr tho, don't get me wrong its still cute as hell in splat 3 but it just looks a bit off to me tbh
The Afro is funny for me just by thinking about the "I like ya cut G" video because I can just imagine the slap on the Octo Fro and I just feel like it would jiggle.

switching from sp2, I had no idea genders were erased. I did all of sp3 story mode with the fem octocurls, then went to go customize my hair and was like "holy shit I can do any hairstyle and still sound like a girl??" it's been 2 and a half months or so and it's worked out well. Wearing the teddy band with the afro gives me a very cute look, it reminds me of a bonnet a lot. I'm not poc tho but by god does the afro go hard. If I were an Inkling, I'd chose Agent 4's hair, or the masc shaved hair
