44 years old here. I feel like I'm the oldest person who watches booktube. Thanks for keeping me young. Your 30s are the best. Happy Birthday 🌷 Ariel!

When Ariel was talking about being 30, it reminded me of when I went from being the youngest in my work team to being the oldest 😭 and then being the "den mother" for the new hires. Its a sad, proud, scary time.

I think it's time to kill the 24 in 24 goal to accomplish the more important goal of reading less than 50 and do more of all the other fun hobbies too! Also, Ariel, you can totally make it to 100! I am waving imaginary pom-pons and cheering you on! (I just really want the whole Freaky Friday concept to come to fruition!)

I got a different eye surgery (ICL) when Ariel got her lenses, so I’m also in ‘pushing my glasses up on my nose but they’re not there’ mode 😂 it took me a solid MONTH to stop reaching for my glasses in the morning once I could see - 16 years of glasses habits are hard to break!

If you haven't seen I Saw The TV Glow, that's an A24 horror movie that came out this year! It's an allegory for gender dysphoria so it's mostly existential horror, but it takes inspiration from 90s teen monster shows so there's some of that fun Halloween flavor too.

Ahhh what a great episode!! I needed that time with the gals honestly both of you lifted up my spirits a bunch today, thank you!! Wow Ariel I'm so glad the new night time contacts are working for you that's amazing and such quick results which is so great for you!! My goals are off by like eight books I'm mostly likely not going to make it and it's fine I'll just have the same goal for the third year running haha! My goal next year is to read one physical and one ebook I already own each month pre 2024. So Any books I do buy in 2025 will have to wait mainly because I've bought sooo many these past few years that are still waiting to be read never mind even older tbr books that I've not even touched yet. So I'm making space for older books in my tbr next year which will be nice.

So listen. I have had that edition of Anna Karenina, and most of the pages are notes. Penguin needs to chill on the essays in their deluxe editions 😅 Do not be afraid of the length! It’s very short chapters too, so it feels so satisfying. I also read War and Peace this year, because it was on my 24 in 24 (yes, you inspired me to do that!) and it was not nearly as readable or enjoyable as Anna Karenina.

Is the ortho-k covered by healthcare in Canada? I'd never heard of it before you first brought it up and my mind was blown. Sadly, my eyes are too far gone to even try it (-6.25 and -6.50) but I was really interested in it for my son because it is also a preventative measure against people's eyesight growing worse, especially kids. But it is so expensive. None of our eye care is covered by insurance as it is so we have to pay for appointments, glasses, sports glasses, contacts... and then the ortho-k would be a cost like that, except much more expensive. Like, up to $5000 to start and then $500-2000 *every year* after that. So my dreams were crushed because I'm not rich enough for many healthcare options in the US 😓

Such a cute podcast. I'm glad your eye journey is going well. Congrats on the end of season for the book truck. I would love to go to the Jane festival sounds like you had a great time. Will you give an update on when your getting married? I look forward to more posts on your home channel. I really enjoy them. Raylene sounds like the party was a great success. You crochet so well. Will you ever have a channel for that? I would love to learn more, but I struggle with how to videos its so fast and some of the language I don't get. Have a great week. Happy reading 📚 😊😊

A promenade (a propper promenade) isn't the same as a parade, unfortunately the bath festival has taken the word and used it in the wrong context, a promenade is a gentle walk in public to see and be seen by other people, whereas a parade is a more march along with crowds of people gathered to watch and stare at you, as much as I love the Jane Austen festival it really irks me that they use the wrong word just to try and make it sound more historical.

    Random, but wanted to share:
I'm new to this podcast (I started this year) and after catching up on all the video episodes I headed to Spotify to begin at episode ONE. I'm currently on episode 20 - Addressing the elephant with booksandlala that went up on March 10, 2020. Ariels piece of book news was highlighting a book shop in Nova Scotia that also fosters kittens and adopts them out. Ariel shouted out any one in the area to go check them out because she can't and I couldn't help but think, oh sweet Ariel of 2020, life is about to get so crazy for you, but it's going to bring you to this book shop one day, and that was so wholesome for me. 🥹🫶
