    The tonsillectomy bleed happened to my younger sister when she was 22 yrs old. She had emergency surgery to sew up a vein that a scab came off of. She filled up a wash basin before surgery. She recovered slowly. Was given 4 units of blood.

    My little one had tonsils and adenoids removed and the first thing doctors told us was to give her rough food straight away, they even brought crisps for her to eat about an hour after waking up. She ate a toast with strawberry jam, and black currant juice and a pack of cheese crisps. They said the sooner one starts eating normal food the better recovery because rough food prevents scabs, which cause bleeding, from forming. They also said that by eating normally, drinking cold fluids and maintaining oral hygiene including alcohol-free mouth wash she will keep the site clean and healthy. Shocking for us since we thought it would be ice lollies and jelly but it worked. No bleeding, smooth recovery and pain free.

    I had the same thing happen after a tonsillectomy. I was in my 40's when I had it done. It was very scary. I drove myself to hospital. They used suction in my throat and sprayed something in my throat to stop the bleeding. I was kept overnight for observation and given a drug to take for 14 days to prevent bleeding.

    My daughter was 5 when she had tonsillectomy. Had pneumonia every winter. Doctors thought tonsillectomy might help stop her frequent pneumonia. Went into surgery @6am. Finally @ 6pm I got to see her in recovery room. Her throat had swollen shut. Her surgeon had stayed with her all day until he felt she was out of the woods. She was intubated & asleep. She healed slowly however never had pneumonia again for almost 40 years.

    I was nineteen when I had the same 9 day post-op bleed as Nick from a tonsillectomy... I had no idea until now that it was life threatening, but I suppose in hindsight it must have been. I did get close to choking, because the bleed was mostly composed of big, fresh, bright red blood clots. The bleed was controlled by cauterisation in the ED at Flagstaff Regional Hospital. Thank goodness! With that out of the way, we simply continued with our vacation. 😊

    I had a post tonsillectomy bleed, when I was 25 yrs old. My brother seen me in the bathroom with blood coming out of my mouth and didn’t hesitate, just picked me up in his arms and took me to the hospital. I saw one of the older doctors there at the time; he took a look at me straight away and rinsed my mouth out to see. He said it looked like the doctor who did the surgery had really gouged out my throat. He said I looked like my throat was butchered. Small town hospital and only a nurse and a doctor on duty that’s it. He could t get it stopped bleeding and said he only had one trick left and if not then he’d fly me to the city but I was not stable. So the old grandma trick it was. I gargled with salted ice cold water(more ice than water) 🥶. It was very uncomfortable but amazingly, it worked. He then changed my oral pill antibiotics to children’s liquid antibiotics and nothing but milkshakes and jello for me for almost 3 weeks. Then nothing but bland soft foods for another 3 weeks and I was good then. It was really bad and irritated but the ice water worked. Thank goodness for old home folk remedies sometimes!!! ♥️♥️♥️

    Actually, the diet is. No longer ice cream or any kind of milk because it causes the scabs on the back of the throat to have mucus and slide off and cause bleeding. I had my when I was 17 in 2008. And they said they only allowed popsicles and jello nothing of the red food color dye or orange because they wanted to make sure you weren't bleeding but no milk product for at least a month.

    Poor Nick. The throat and bleeding is plenty to cope with but add the Akathisia to it and it's torturous. I've experienced drug induced akathisia and wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

    • @patriciarossman8653
      @patriciarossman8653 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I so understand, Carol!! I've experienced drug-induced akathisia as well. The last occurrence began New Year's Day 2021, when I abruptly discontinued oxycodone and fentanyl, and at the time I was doing between 120and 180mg/24 hours, so that 10 months later I could get my spine reconstructed, (31° scoliosis, with the usual accompanying Arthritis diseases) and I could start afresh with a reasonable dosage of opiates. Two years, 5 surgeries, and nine fractures later, it is still a constant balancing act. I now take opiates only while awaiting surgery, or recovering from surgery. The opiate pendulum has swung to the far left right now, which means that we have a huge increase of suicides, as a result of untreated chronic pain. It's an incredible mess.

    Earlier symptoms of heavy bleeding are rapid respirations because without enough blood, the body's tissues think they're not getting enough O2. Then the heart beats faster, trying to get more O2 from the lungs to the body. AFTER all that, the blood pressure drops. For some reason, doctors worldwide only look at the BP.
