    My friend, first of all thank you so much for your content. I’ve been devouring your channel ever since I’ve got to know it, and that’s for good reason.
    With all due respect to other channels, your’s is just shenanigans free, which is absolutely great to someone like me, that wants to “seriously” get back to the hobby (at least as seriously as a hobby can get).
    I am a nostalgia-driven adult, who wants to get back to one of my favorite hobbies ever, while also making it sustainable in the short run; and profitable in the long run. No one else was able to share the amount of quality information you did.
    Keep up the good work and hope to be able to make business with you one day, who knows!

    I agree with everything but i think there are some huge gains to be had buying singles early on a release. Its def a hard call but can be done with an experienced eye! And the gains will pour in only half a year later, essentially your riding the hype from the bottom to the top. These cards are hard to get your hands on but it can be done !

    Wow, for beeing such a young channel with 283 Abos you do a very professional and entertaining job.
    Topic: I also made many of these mistakes in the past 4 years. The most difficult part for me is to not overspend money and discipline myself not buying for quantity in the collection. I just sold almost 100 SWSH alt arts to fund some grands. With this budget I will now wait to catch on of my vintage grails in the future. Now I am not in a hurry anymore like in the last years.

    your second tip is extremely important. my sister asked me if she should invest in pokemon because she saw how well it was doing. i told her no because she does not like the cards. if you invest in pokemon whilst actually enjoying the hobby not only does it mean that you will always have something even if the cards become worthless but it also helps you get into the mindset of the people you are going to eventually be selling stuff to which helps inform your investments. i would not make nearly as many correct calls in terms of what will be profitable in the future if i was not an active enjoyer of the hobby.

    • @phillips.collectibles
      @phillips.collectibles  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      100%. I have friends asking me about Pokemon / Yu-Gi-Oh! with curiosity. However, the reality is you need to be somewhat of a fan of the franchise to navigate the collectibles.
      And exactly, you make better calls when you understand what you're talking about, what's been your best call so far?

    • @youcanthandlemyname7393
      @youcanthandlemyname7393 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@phillips.collectibles evo skies boxes at 100 a box was my best call.
      i find my best calls happen when i listen to myself and my own desires as a collector whilst my worst calls happen when i get things that i dont really want just because they are super hyped by other people.
      for example id say my worst call was hidden fates singles in 2020 which was right when i got back into the hobby. spent twice as much per single than they are worth now even though the popular sentiment in the community at the time was that hidden fates would only ever go up in value. when i got in on evo skies though the current sentiment was that modern was dead and it would never be worth anything. but because i knew how much i liked the set as a collector i knew that was wrong and got in at the best time.

    Awesome video, dude! Thank you.
    I started collecting with Crown zenith and basically opened around 700 packs, got just 1 gold and felt like a piece of sh#t. It became frustrating and indeed it felt like gambling... This coming from an ex gambler. It's a beautiful but can be dangerous hobby. I calmed down lately, basically I open just a small amount for fun, buy Minty singles and psa 10 grails. I basically do everything that you recommend except for the Sealed products because I don't trust myself around them. 😂

      @@phillips.collectibles Actually, I forgot a major thing and I see nobody anywhere is taking it seriously. Maybe you would be interested.
      Over the last couple of months I've encountered some really strange people which felt the need to tell me that they worked for the Pokémon Company, somewhere in Europe, and all the EXTRA PRINTED chase cards got stuck to their hands and had a constant supply of alt arts and basically everything you would wish for and releasing them on the market. I saw photos and videos of 480 binders filled with Giratina v 186. My heart broke... These guys, told me that I cannot even begin to imagine what value they have in Pokémon cards and that they basically retired after a few years of work and live on selling cards. Now... When an average Joe like me pays 2k to open Lost Origin and gets 5-10% value and of course no Giratina and I see what those fu.ckers stole, how can I continue to enjoy the hobby when I know that hundreds of thousands of cards like these are released into the market by people who stole them?

    I have a question: are cards printed more nowadays? Idk how much the prices of modern cards will increase in the future - cause nowadays, it’s a well-known market, which many people invest in
    To me, it feels like the older cards are rarer because “no one knew it would become big”, so therefore there are fewer cards in great conditions 🤔 meanwhile nowadays, everyone knows and save their cards etc
    Will kids growing up today feel nostalgic about the current TCG expansions? 🤔🤔
    What do you think?

    • @phillips.collectibles
      @phillips.collectibles  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, yes they are. Cards are printed way more these days, however there's more demand.
      Vintage is far rarer, and some rare cards have PSA 10 Population Reports of under 100 copies. Vintage has a certain magic about it that no one knew the cards would become valuable one day, so not many people took care of their cards.
      However, some modern cards have close to impossible pull rates. I think I saw Chilling Reign chase cards were something like 1 in 1500 to pull a specific VMAX Alt Art card.
      So, yes cards are printed more, however the new chase cards in sets are infinitely harder to pull, so the copies are still rare.
      In terms of nostalgia for the current expansions, I've been collecting cards, even outside of Pokemon, I can only comment on what I have seen in the past. However I do believe there will be a huge nostalgic wave for these cards.

    • @phillips.collectibles
      @phillips.collectibles  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! Vintage and Modern are apples and oranges. Completely different and the rule only really applies to modern cards.
      I suppose the difference is with modern product, when people pull a rare card, it’s immediately sleeved and protected, however to offset the amount people who protect their cards, the pull rates are much harder.
      Whereas with vintage, pull rates were no where near as difficult, however no one really protected their cards. You’d have a few people who placed them in binders, but even then binders still can damage your cards after a while if they’re not good quality.
      So for vintage it’s really different to modern because PSA 8s and 9s for some vintage are still way better than a lot of 10s.
      So I suppose my answer is: the rule only applies to modern for PSA 10!

    Looks like "Opposum Bud" mentioned you in a video, he didn't really say anything negative I guess but he also just randomly put you in his video and then didn't analyze anything you said and just rambled LOL. He talked about your "not investing advice" disclaimer which was stupid of him, yeah its kinda silly because we're talking about pokemon cards but you have to cover all your bases when it comes to people spending money. IMO no reason for him to even bring you up if he's not even gonna talk about your points. I've been very disappointed with his content every time I clicked on it so that didn't change.

    Also you forget to mention invest only in the main grading companies which are bgs, cgc, psa in that order. Only use psa as an easy way to get 10’s because their grading is shitty but the real money is in the bgs and cgc cause of the pristine and perfect 10’s and also cgc gem mint 10’s are harder to get, least pop out there and more valuable as well. But don’t invest on any other company like AGS or ACE or whatever companies there are out there

      @@Healthynfit714 cgc has subgrades, pristine and perfect 10 in their grades, also in a between grades like .5 just like bgs and also same acknowledgment given by the people. So no. Psa is just shitty and it works only to get sure 10’s but it’s not where the absolute value is. A cgc 10 has same value as a psa 10 and if you get a pristine is on average 8 to 10 times more valuable
