Extinction was my first encounter with Bernhard. I'd say it's one of the best books published since 1945. It's his one epic novel. It's probably my all-time favorite book. Concrete and Wittgenstein's Nephew, both published in 1982, seem markedly weaker to me, than the subsequent books.
