    So like... Can Mal get an art supplies sponsor? Because these videos would be amazing for promoting a brand due to Mal knowing what supplies she loves and being honest with us.

    Hey Mal have you thought of painting a picture of Sagan and Kepler. Maybe take a picture of them and just paint that. I think that would be cute

    I’m not saying I’ve needed this video for my entire life, but I’ve needed this video for my entire life.

    This was really interesting, and I feel like I learned a lot!
    I have to say, that as a watercolor artist I prefer natural brushes over synthetic. It feels like natural brushes absorbs the water and lets you paint with it while the synthetic brushes really don't do that (at least based on my personal experience).
    I rarely do acrylic paintings and whenever I do them, I use natural brushes as I only have them, and I don't feel like the paint has ever ruined my brushes - then again, I tend to keep the brushes with paint in water when I'm not using them while I'm painting, so...that, and I rarely paint with acrylic anyway, so that might be why I haven't ruined any brushes yet. But it's good to know now that it's possible, so I'll be more careful in the future!

    Thanks for this video! I took a painting class at uni and I still didn't really know the uses for some of the more "out there" brushes or how to go about picking out brushes. I basically use a flat for everything and only discovered rounds are great from watching MalMakes, not my actual professor XD;; Simply Simmons is an excellent brand, can confirm. Great balance of price and quality.

    Thank you so much for this video. I had to watch a hand full of lame videos before I found yours that is actually informative!
    I have been painting and doing art my whole life, but never actually learned HOW...now that I am older and not absolutely broke, I’ve realized I can buy myself new paint brushes!!! So so soooo long overdue!!! BUT, I realized I don’t actually know how to shop for them AT ALL! I have been buying ultra cheap ones to get by and just using what I can get my hands on. I’m very thankful for your video so that I can make informed decisions as I upgrade. I can’t wait to get new brushes and get painting!

    Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge Mal. I'm an acrylic painter too and it can be surprisingly hard to find resources for our medium. Oil is still assumed to be the default in many painting communities and this leads to beginning acrylic painters taking up irrelevant advice, so it's really nice to see someone set the record straight!

    This is such a good video, I love that you mentioned the issues soft brushes gave you, I'll buy individual brushes instead of the sets. It may take longer to pick but I'll have an easier experience painting. Thanks!!!

    I'm a digital artist/animator, so I find this very interesting since I have all the brushes I need on my laptop.

    This is really making me want to paint! Plus, I have a friend who is still fairly new to painting so I can show them this to help! Also, I won the auction for the Yoshi silhouette painting that you showed in the last video!

    I didn't know there was even a difference between soft and stiff bristles

  • @BollyBibby
    @BollyBibby 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe I should look for some brushes with firmer bristles sometime soon... I feel like that could help in some situations where I'm having trouble. Also, my pallet knife broke recently X_X I didn't think I was being too rough... Oh well, not like it's expensive to get a new one.

    I inherited All sizes and kinds of brushes and acrylic paints. I’ve been teaching myself but want to learn more techniques. Does the color of the bristles make a difference?

    • @MalMakes
      @MalMakes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope! Color could indicate something but it's brand specific and all brands are different. (My favorite brand uses brown for soft and dark red for stiff but they're the only ones who do)

    That shirt is SO CUTE. I love these videos; I already thought your painting videos were educational, but you definitely took it to the next level with the past video and this one as well. Always a fan of your content, Mal!

    Ah, maybe my art is bad because I'm using soft brushes...or maybe I'm just bad at art...
