After spilling water on a stack of note cards I was using for research, and having much of the data completely lost, I decided that permanence was important to me. I chose DeAtramentis Document Ink Brown. It behaves like the black ink you review here, and since changing I haven't lost a single card. These are pigment inks. I use it in my Waterman, but it does require frequent and thorough cleaning. Woe betide anyone who allows this ink to dry in a pen. It takes forever to get out.
The De Atramentis document inks are solid. The only one I have had issues with is Doc White, which there isn't a review of on this channel. The issue there was in cleaning the pen. Ink drying in the pen was whatI ran into with Doc white. It was.... less than pleasant and a lot of work to clean out. Because of that I would recommend regular cleaning, like months, even if you are still using the doc ink. That is just to be overly cautious because I know how hard it can be to clean. I love the De Atramentis Doc inks for permanence. SOLID!
I so enjoyed your personality pouring through the screen by two minutes into the video that I subbed. I especially loved the kind of... metal?? haha... font you chose to label your bell curves. Then you mentioned the dry time that falls to the faster side of average, and I thought "ah-HAH! but how did you DETERMINE that dry time, good sir?!". Of course, you concisely but thoroughly answered that, too, a moment later. I'm delighted to have found your video, and I'm looking forward to many more to come.
It is a "metal" font, lol. This is a very early video for me, but even from the start I had info I wanted to cover. Realizing I have to make every video as if it is someone's first time seeing me. Glad you like it.
Excellent test Ink Guy, thank you! What large sheet paper do you recommend to use with this ink? I'm looking for something relatively smooth if possible and 22 x 30 if possible. Thanks!
The most Reilly available fountain pen friendy paper I can think of is the Rhodia N38 but it is 16 ½ x 12 ½ .... but Canson does make a paper that is 22" x 30", and I haven't had any issues with Canson papers.
The real question how it compares to other permanent blacks ? Platinum carbon Sailor Kiwaguro Rohrer+Klingner Dokumentus black Rohrer+Klingner Sketch ink black Deatramentis Document black Also other deatramentis document inks are interesting too, i have a bunch but they perform weird unlike black.
Hi inky guy. Your videos are welcomed and very well done. I appreciate the time and effort you generously share. Have you tried: Noodlers Texas Black Bat, and Platinum Carbon Black? I’m an artist looking to achieve a very thin line of black (for use in a Platinum Century 3776 UEF) that isn’t so wet, and works well with watercolor? As well I don’t want to compromise my pen with pigmentations which is why I’m hesitant on the platinum carbon black. Advise?
From my experience Platinum Carbon black is a solid performer for watercolor. Make sure you let it dry for 24 hours for best result when you paint over. Platinum Carbon Black is made for fountain pens, so you won't compromise your pen.
love your reviews, thank you. I am especially into waterresistant inks, and have purchased several inks after seeing your tests. As a proposal for a futur test: "Koh I Noor - document ink" . I did not find any review of this ink in the whole www. It is very affordable compared to other waterresistand inks, and it would be intresting to compare it to all the other inks, you have tested.

Best review I've seen so far about pretty much anything. Thank you!
Thank you

the problem with permanent brown ink is if you get it on your fingers no one will want to shake hands with you for the rest of the week
Superb and impressive review! Love all the science and the shotgun delivery! Well done Sir!
Well thank you very much!

Love the detailed review. Specially like the highlighter handling.
I use cheap paper a lot. How will this ink perform in cheap papers?
Thanks again
It will have bleed, but not the kind that gets the next page. You night be able to control the bleeding with a dry fine pen.
The real question how it compares to other permanent blacks ?
Platinum carbon
Sailor Kiwaguro
Rohrer+Klingner Dokumentus black
Rohrer+Klingner Sketch ink black
Deatramentis Document black
Also other deatramentis document inks are interesting too, i have a bunch but they perform weird unlike black.
If I was choosing a black and pernmanence mattered I would go with De Atramentis Doc Black or Platinum Carbon Black.

And I think you are amazing to acknowledge Vita on the chromography test on every video. Your kindness shows.
