    THIS STORY:
Eva Mozes Kor was a Romanian-born survivor of the Holocaust. Along with her twin sister Miriam, Kor was subjected to human experimentation under the direction of SS Doctor Josef Mengele at the Auschwitz concentration camp in German-occupied Poland during World War II. Her parents and two older sisters were killed in the gas chambers at Birkenau; only she and Miriam survived.

The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....
    ....and some with tragic endings.

A couple of viewers have misinterpreted my words when I was discussing the Warsaw Ghetto. I referenced that these Jews revolted and killed some Nazi's "AND Germans". I am distinguishing between the two, German soldiers were not Nazi's. Both were killed, mostly Nazi's.
Regular German soldiers were not Nazi's. My Grandfather was one of those, who was under Rommel. He also helped Jews. Many German soldiers were good. Please don't get the two confused.
The soldier word could have been used in that sentence, but I chose to word it the way I said it, with intention as explained above being in mind.
    it was a metaphoric statement.

You are so right. My dad said when his battalion got word the war was over many regular German soldiers crossed a river to surrender to them (the Americans) instead of the Russians. They took their weapons and told them to go home to their families. The Nazis were not treated so nicely. The SS guards in the prison camps that he helped liberate tried to get by them dressed as prisoners but they were recognized and identified by the other prisoners. Some were beaten to death by the healthier prisoners themselves. My dad said they couldn’t and wouldn’t have stopped them from doing so. Mengele was a monster and surrounded himself with others like him.

@@JudyB1980 I hate to contradict you both, but as of July 1935, Hitler's minions had made it law that all German military personnel AND civilian officials, had to swear this oath:
“I swear by God this holy oath, that I will render to Adolf Hitler, Führer of the German Reich and People, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, unconditional obedience, and that I am ready, as a brave soldier, to risk my life at any time for this oath.”
I'm not saying that they all liked, or even wanted, to do it. Nevertheless, it was required. Does that make them all Nazis? Perhaps not, but they weren't speaking out about not supporting Hitler. Thus, the Nazis coordinated the various parts of civil and military life under one person. No longer did they swear loyalty to their country or its people, but to one, evil little man. Hitler became supreme in all aspects of life.

Not everyone was a monster. The military leaders were monsters. Not every soldier - the lowest military was a monster. Some suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder because they weren't allowed to commit suicide.

    • @FacesoftheForgotten
      @FacesoftheForgotten  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@tanjahorvatserbiaoldslavsh4685 - You are correct. It was mostly the leaders, and most soldiers we’re not monsters. My grandfather fought under Rommel, he was a good man and good leader, in the minority.
But I think most soldiers were good guys. But some were horrible mean sadistic. .

I'm half German and know there is a difference between a nazi and a German. But ignorant people don't. I've gotten the Hitler salute so many times as a kid and swastikas in my desk at school until my seventh grade teacher intercepted one as it was being thrown at me. His big fist closed around it and he started YELLING "Do you know what this stood for "? There was NEVER a swastika seen again in my school.

Thank you so much Ron for your amazing sensitivity on the subject. Miss Eva you were an amazing woman. God Bless you, your sister and all who have perished and suffered under the horrible Nazi Regime. May each and every victim of the atrocities that took place rejoice in knowing that those who did such horrible things are being punished in ways more horrible ways than we can even imagine. I am sure there is a special place in Hell where they will spend eternity paying for their crimes. To those who were forced to help in the horrible treatment of innocent people and I do mean forced, may you find grace and understanding. I am sure there are those under Hilter who really did not want to do horrible things but felt they had no other choice if they wanted to live and protect their families.

I actually had the unique pleasure to meet Eva at a research convention where she told her life’s story. It was heartbreaking, hard to listen to the sheer terror that they had endured, but a life lesson in never forgetting the atrocities, but living life as a survivor and not a victim. I was able to sit with her, she was very gracious, signed her book , gave me a hug. She advocated for fair treatment for all people, to look at each person in their own individual rights to enjoy life, freedom to be free. One of the highlights of my career. We must never forget , lest this happen again. !!!

She did so much after being freed from the concentration camp. She was a great activist and humanitarian for Holocaust survivors. Dear Ron, all that story you told about the horrors of Auschwitz, the experiments with twins is just one third of all... I've gone there. I told in another video that I lived in Hamburg. I was a kid, 8 or 9 years old and we visited Auschwitz. Just from watching that place and hearing all the stories I already understood every thing. In school it was strickly fobiden to talk about it and draw any symbol that reminded Hittler.
I saw a documentary about her/Eva. It was hard to hear her talk about her past, her twin sis and the family and all the other kids. R.I.P. EVA.

I didn't know she passed, bless her heart ❤ I saw her documentary on Amazon Prime, sad story about Eva Mozes & her sister, and all the others that were under the hand of that butcher Menegle. As for "Schindler's List" bought the dvd when it first came out, seen the movie about 20 or more times now. Remarkable story about what Oskar Schindler did in saving so many lives ❤

Hi I don't comment to often. I do however watch every video . In my opinion this is the most beautiful video you have done to date. Not in the picture quality although done very well. Your words are beautiful and so fitting for that family and all that where affected by probably the worst people to walk on this planet. 💜

Bless this tiny, but mighty, woman. She was way ahead of others when it came to talking about Nazi atrocities. When she started, no one wanted to hear about it. She not only outlived her many critics, but she accomplished so much. She even opened a small holocaust museum in her hometown that was burned to the ground by vandals. She just built another one. She was a survivor in many ways. She will not be forgotten. RIP, Eva. RIP

Mengele was such a sadist person! I’m sure he’s burning everyday for his atrocities against humanity!! And might I add so many survivors said they had the will to survive because they wanted the world to know what happened, They never wanted us to forget or have history repeat itself. I look at the world around us now and especially Australia and I can’t help thinking.. History is repeating itself!!

This is a horrific part of history, and should never be forgotten. I have read many books on the Holocaust, and it turns the stomach, and has brought tears to my eyes. It's a shame, but so many are still under the influence of the hate game, and some don't even know what it's all about, they have never been taught.
