    Such a pretty presentation of pencils. They do look gorgeous. And those tomatoes! Your botanical artwork is now fantastic. I hope you’ve stopped saying you aren’t an artist now. Because you really are an artist now. Extremely skilled.

      I have succumbed and reluctantly refer to myself as an artist, as does my wife and kids now. It’s really strange for me Sue because I really still think of myself as a soldier, I know I am not but I just can’t shake it.

    Off topic, but that little tomato in your artwork looks like the ones my grandfather grew. I used to grab a handful coming in the door like candy. It was an heirloom species with multiple striations of colour like you did. Thank you for giving me a nostalgic moment.

    Edit: I went ahead and ordered the 120 set.

      The Art Gear Guide yes. I asked you which I should buy between the Lyra Rembrandt or Blicks when you buy all the blick sets they are equivalent. I actually ended up buying the blicks too. But haven’t even swatched them. I like buying a full set and don’t like having to purchase different sets because then you need to get a container to have them together or you don’t end up using them. I like that you get the full 72 piece set with the Lyra and they are so beautiful and chubby! I really like the compact and easy packaging of these new Marco.

    They arrived today. Layer perfect. Blend marvoules. Very, very bright colours. They do not scratch and do not crumble. In my opinion they are better then Faber Castell at 1/3 of the price. Thanks for the review. And the packaging is indeed very good, no damage with the sending from China. Marc Belgium

      @@IndigoJaguar7323 yes you even have a 70 or 90 day guarantee, if you don’t receive the order after that time, they refund your money, even if you do receive the items afterwards. If you receive a damaged product or it is not as described, you can open a dispute and they generally go in your favor. They have a lot of products in warehouses in France , Spain and the US, so you may even receive them within days. I’m in Mexico, so it usually takes at least a month to receive any given item. Hi May I am with you 100% I never really equated Marco with excellent quality pencils. I liked the Renoir pencils but never really thought of them as high quality pencils. But these Tribute pencils are gorgeous. I very rarely recommend pencils, I always just leave it up to you guys to see if they fit in with your style of art. But I am more than happy to recommend these and as Virtual Canvas says, the link I have added takes you to AliExpress for the UK price which includes shipping and they are so worth the money. They work out at less than a £1 a pencil, about 0.75p or something like that which is crazy especially given the packaging.

    So great to see this review, as I was gifted this set from an artist friend recently, the packaging is a thing of beauty, but I have to say the pencils are fantastic, really highly pigmented and are lovely to work with,the price considering the quality and the packaging is realy good.I use them in mixed media pieces and they are great for this. I think the "monet" and the "Klimt" are my favourites so far of the sets within the pencils,the white encil works as a good blender of sorts,and I love that they work so well on black and toned papers too.This was not a brand I had heard of before,but I have to say they are serious contender as a set of pencils and I think the range of colours over the set of 80 is realy well thought out.Happy to add these to my collection. I see they do a watercolour pencil version of these too,so wil have to chek those out as I favour this type of pencils and it would be great to see if both types could be used together.

I have had my eye on them for about a year but was hoping to see a review or something first because although I am happy with the Marco products, the cost for the Master collection seemed a little high for me to purchase blindly. To my amazement, I could not find a single review for the Marco Tribute Master Colored Pencils - on TH-cam or even a written review.... But now I have yours! The fact that you like these so much has convinced me to buy them - my only question now is should I go for the nice packaging but get less pencils, or go for the normal packaging and get 120. Decisions.. decisions...

    I was wondering about these. I thought they would be just pretty and not that great as pencils. Looks like I'm wrong! I might save for a set of these. Sometimes a sale comes up on AliExpress, so i'll keep an eye on it.
    There's also a watercolor version of these pencils, too!
    There are so many different sets of Marco pencils, that I don't know how they compare to each other. The tributes are def the top of the line, but I don't know where the square sets (pastel, 48 regular and 48 watercolor) fit in with the rest of them.

My only problem is seeing as they are pretty pricey I don't feel comfortable ordering them all the way from a Chinese retailer in case there are quality or shipment issues. • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Katherine they are very different to the Renoir. The Renoir are really soft but the Tribute have a core much more like that of the Polychromos. It’s harder than the Renoir but the pigment strength is unbelievable for a set of pencils at this price. They blend and layer much better than the Renoir because the core is slightly harder but because the pigment is so strong the Tribute do blending and Layering so well.

    Wow I now know exactly what to buy my daughter for Christmas. She loves books and drawing.
    So on a slightly different note what's a middle of the road paper for a beginner to use. I know it's a very individual choice but it's really hard to work out what to buy. The whole visual art diary thing is hideous. Maybe you could do a review comparing the different styles and what to look for when buying drawing paper.

    • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Annie, I think a good paper to get started on would be a Bristol Velum. I think the Velum is a good middle of the road paper, not too smooth, a little bit of tooth, allows for detail and a texture. • @katherinebordier6195
      @katherinebordier6195 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, that might be kind of difficult. There are only 3 organizations that professionally determine lightfastness, and I think only 1 does so for art supplies: ASTM (American Standard Test Measure). I think that is because to do so is quite complicated since people don't want to just wait 10-20 years to determine sunlight's effect on the material in question that is used on a particular piece of artwork. Instead, testing is done by controlled exposure to what is called a xenon arc lamp (this is the most accurate way to artificially mimic sunlight). But that type of lamp is highly specialized and thus very expensive, and on top of the cost, it is just not easily purchased by the average person (at least I did not see any for sale while doing a quick google search). To make things even more complicated, since the actual lightfastness is dependent on the strength of the radiation of the sun. Thus, lightfastness depends on where the piece of artwork is in the world - it is relative to the season, geographical location, exposure direction, and how the piece of art in question is displayed - is it away from a window? under direct sunlight? under indirect sunlight and properly framed behind UV protective glass? OR is it in a coloring book, sitting on your shelf?

    • @margaretf667
      @margaretf667 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@katherinebordier6195 artists do home lightfast tests regularly by taping samples to the window. It's not the same as a professional one but still a useful tool, and should not be dismissed.

    Question for you Harry. How do these Marco Tribute colored pencils compare to the Marco Renoir? I own a set of Marco Renoir but I wonder if the Marco Tribute layers better, fewer breakage issues, etc. Thanks Henrietta

    • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Henrietta the Marco tribute coloured pencils are very different to the Marco Renoir coloured pencils. When I first started using the Marco Renoir, which was about five years ago now, the set that I bought was the 72 set and I didn’t have very many breakage issues with them; although I do know that people experience such issue now with them.
      But the Marco Tribute are much like the Faber Castell Polychromos pencils. The core of the Tribute is harder than the Renoir, which I know makes the tribute sound worse than the Renoir because so many of us love soft cored pencils, but I promise that is not the case. The Tribute core is harder than the Renoir but the Tribute blend and layer absolutely beautifully. The harder core allows for a sharper more accurate point, which is what provides such good layering capabilities.
      But the pigment strength of the Tribute is just amazing. I have to say I genuinely was not expecting to love these pencils as much as I do, I thought the packaging was like a Venus Pencil Trap for us Colored pencil artist, pull us in with its beauty and then trap us with terrible pencils, but this is absolutely not the case at all.
      I hope this helps you but if you have anymore questions I am always more than happy to help

    The pencils are stunning, the packaging incredibly beautiful, however, I had an unpleasant surprise with a few things. First off, pencil points were shaped in random points, and the Van Gogh set was a hot mess. Color names were either repeated, wrong name completely and the fonts were inconsistent. For the price, My collection should be immaculate. However, they’re still beautiful and who knows? I may have a special collector’s set because of the printing mishaps!

      You are absolutely right though you should not have to settle for imperfections. Have you contacted Marco? If not you should.
      You see this frustrates the life out of me and I wish companies would ensure all products left the factory in exactly the same condition. When I review a set of pencils I can only review what I have in front of me, but when viewers order a set of pencils based on my review, they should expect to get the same standard to pencils.
      If you have contacted Marco or you do contact them and don’t get any satisfaction, please let me know and I will contact them on your behalf. Take photos of the pencils as you got them and then you can provide evidence as to how the pencils arrived. Not acceptable in my opinion. I will do everything I can to get you the product you should have received.

    I would bite but the extra cost of the 60 extra pencils just doesn't add up, and I already have 180 colours lol. Sigh. Beautiful turqouise tin too.

    I live in U.S. and on Amazon, the Tribute set is $89.00 & free shipping, but it’s not Prime shipping.

    I do have the Marco Renoir pencils and I really did like them. I thought the company was Italian! LOL

    I have the first Marcos that came out and still using them. They are a good pencil. Since then there has been a better set and I believe this set to be the cat’s meow!
    They are 89$ on Amazon USA

    Que bueno que exista una marca de lápices de colores China que se preocupe realmente por ofrecer lápices de colores de muy alta calidad.

    Aww, I was hoping the pencils be awful so I could use the packaging for my favorite pencils...I might still do that anyway!

    Are these pencils oil or wax based?

      @TheArtGearGuide  ปีที่แล้ว

      They have both oil and wax in them but they would be considered a little bit more on the oil side.

    Isn't this sort of a play on what Arteza is doing? They have sets of 24 pencils that include the colours associated with a particular artist and include an image from the artist to be coloured.

      Do you not mean Castle Art? If so you are right, they are similar although I wouldn’t like to say one has copied the other and the packaging of the Marco Tribute is much more superior.

      @@TheArtGearGuide It is just this kind of thing gives people a taste of art history. Castle Art is less expensive for the average adult or child to use and learn.

    They look like great colors. However, as attractive as the packaging is, that would drive me crazy, opening and sorting thru all the separate boxes or having to have all the boxes open on my desk.

    My first colored pencil set was the raffine and I would not recommend that. Little pigment and layered poorly. No comparison to my second set prismacolor. Want to try the higher end marco set but price needs to be much lower.
