Fun fact: the motorcycle in the first movie was actually a bike from Peter Fonda's (the guy who played Mephisto) personal collection, which is also why the bike was different in the second movie (they couldn't get Peter Fonda to come back and he wouldn't let them borrow the bike for the movie)
And that was probably because the budget was lower for the second one, as it was made by a production arm of Marvel Studios (that being Marvel Knight) and the people who used to own the rights of Punisher, Ghost Rider and other characters who fit Marvel Knights.
The first Ghost Rider has a special place in my heart regardless of its flaws. It at least feels like the writers understand how the characters work and I think its overall enjoyable as a pure dumb fun movie. The second one was a fever dream though lol. I literally felt I was drunk throughout that entire film.
My brother and I actually read the original script before this movie came out. It was weird, but weird in the best way possible. Scarecrow (MARVEL version) was the original primary antagonist, and Ghost Rider was way more difficult to control. There was even a point where Johnny Blaze and the Rider had to take control of the body in an almost split way wherein the human form could still be seen under all the flames. Scarecrow was a horror giant through and through by the end, even putting his eye into a door to peer through a church. That script stuck so hard with me and my brother that we thought this film would do that justice. And we thought wrong. Most of the coolest parts were cut. And we got Spirit of Vengeance.
One thing I just picked up from the first film is when nick cage johnny does his first jump, he thinks about signing the contract and that makes him more careless about making the jump causing him to crash. But his second jump, he thinks about Roxy and how he has a second chance to fix what happened with them 2,which then drives him to make the jump. Lots of heart in ghost rider 1, gotta love it

Spirit of Vengeance is not only the second time I've seen Nicolas Cage play Ghost Rider, it's also the second time I've seen Nicolas Cage in a movie directed by Brian Taylor.
I think Ghost Rider is in a similar position to Green Lantern as far as film adaptations go: Both characters started out small, but over the years so much lore and mythology was added that to cover all of that in 2 hours while trying to tell a coherent story seems impossible.
Green Lantern also never had an epic moment that made you understand why Hal Jordan was chosen by the ring. In the animated movie, Green Lantern: First Flight Sinestro is bringing down OA and Lantern rings are dropping. But Hal Jordan never gives up. He embodies will power and basically takes in a bunch of the Green Lantern energy to take on Sinestro and his ring of fear. Something like that was missing. Although, I would've done it a little differently if I was making the movie. Already thought up my own version.
Nah not really you don’t need to cover decades of comics in one movie just like every other comic adaptation just do an amalgamation of a few good books
Okay but here me out. An anthology film that changes the art style every story. Batman had one, Dead Space had one, Dante's Inferno had one but it made less sense, Samurai Jack had like 2 episodes like that, the Animatrix. The art style change can serve 2 purposes, you give up and coming studios a chance to flex, and you also could demonstrate how different villains who encountered him, see him. I disagree. You can easily make a 2hr ghost ride movie with Danny Ketch or Johnny Blaze. Just need a good script and a clear villain. Spirit of Vengeance. The only thing I truly like about the movie were the special effects and how they made Ghost Rider a real uncontrollable spirit. How he moved was amazing and scary. Also loved how they showed off his powers as well. Overall the credit goes to Nick cause he did the mocap for the Rider and honestly it was very well done. Ik these movies don’t even touch the full potential and awesomeness of ghost rider, but the first movie specifically made me want to be the ghost rider. I remember evening trying to dress exactly like Johnny blaze cause I thought leather jackets and black pants looked cool. The movie did a good job at the time anyway of making me want to turn into ghost rider. I hope the mcu does the character justice and unlike moonknight gives him a movie with a rated r rating. Not a tv series, a movie or at least a rated r special presentation. I like these movies, they’re not good, but they built my love for the character, specifically Johnny blazes version.
When I was 7 my mom's at-the-time boyfriend snuck me into that movie theatre for Ghost Rider without her knowledge. He knew much more about Ghost Rider whereas I only had a passing interest, as in I pointed at a picture and said "who's that" if you're out there reading this comment, that was super rad I'll never forget it
They need to bring back all the old 2000s marvel movie characters that had mediocre movies for secret wars. That would be amazing. It could be like their redemption.
I remember watching this movie on repeat cause my parents had the movie on dvd and then a year or 2 after the second one came out i remember being excited and watching it in the movies but it never had a third which always disappointed me
I wish i liked the 2nd more because it's so much more insane with it's direction but the writing just hurt it. They really blew it with the barebones plot with the devil not Danny Ketch.
superhero films of the 2000s, back when there was no shared universe, your only continuity can be found in the sequels and they made a video game out of every superhero flick
Fun fact is that Mephisto in the first movie is played by Peter Fonda who is the Captain America bike rider in Easy Rider 1969. No wonder he gave Ghost Rider a cool bike 😂😂😂
Woah. you just blew my mind. I don't think I've heard about that Easter egg before. how in the hell were you able to find that out. and then putting 2 and 2 together that Peter Fonda was a motorcycle rider in a 70s movie while being cast in this motorcycle movie is a complete mind f♤¿£ . After what the MCU did to Moon Knight, Taskmaster and Gorr, I'd prefer it if Kevin Fiege keeps his grubby hands as far away from Ghost Rider as possible.
No, we seriously need a Ghost Rider reboot as soon as possible. There's no way Marvel would left such a powerful and popular character like Ghost Rider to not be in MCU.
@@garvitchauhan6265 and Ill be the one laughing "I told you so" when you come back here crying about how they completely butchered and ruined Ghost Rider.
@@SpinoSam They won't ruin Ghost Rider, I absolutely guarantee you. They are making their 1st R Rated movie (Deadpool 3) and Blade is also rumoured to be R Rated too, plus Werewolf by Night was very good and dark compared to other MCU projects. So, they are definitely not gonna ruin Ghost Rider at all, he is going to be fine.
Ghost rider spirit vengeance was a straight reboot and the major difference with the rider is that in spurt of vengeance Nick Cage plays and voices the rider
Honestly if the MCU does redo Ghost Rider it would be nice for them to adapt Danny Ketch. He kinda gets the Wally West treatment where was important but often gets forgotten
Wally west is the most popular flash tho, look at any pole ever people absolutely love Wally. One of the rare cases where the side kick has become the preferable character in some peoples eyes.
I just want to say I appreciate your references enormously. From the Neature clip to the tattoo on their back reference. Nonstop fun here. And I have wondered several times wtf happened to this series. You guys really nailed it.
I love thee Ghost Rider movies. BTW the spike outfit is more from Danny Ketch in the comics. Danny Ketch is Johnny Blaze half brother in comics. Either Carter Slade doesn't look like that in comics, he is more cowboy ghost like, either his name is Phantom rider (but has been named Ghost Rider once). The Secret Wars: its Batltle world had some Ghost Rider comics called Ghost Racers, where Carter Slade is called Satan Stomper. I agree partly on the nostalgia part, it is either called nostalgia glasses. But if i isn't good, it doesn't automatically mean it can't be fun. Ghost Rider 2 was a bit like a rebooted sequel, like with Incredible Hulk and the Hulk movies and the Avengers (and after). The canonicity of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is questionable, especially looking at the Darkhold.
I have a feeling the 2000s would’ve been kinder to Moon Knight with how risky these early 2000s CBMs were It felt like they were always trying something different back then
While I think the first movie is overall a much better adaptation of the character and a more entertaining movie, I do have to say that I find myself revisiting the Ghost Rider scenes from SoV much more than the ones from the first movie. Those action scenes are a blast to watch every time and I really like the Rider being portrayed almost like a horror movie creature. I am also just straight up mesmerized by the Rider's design in SoV. The smoaky flames, charred black skull und melting leather just looks insanely good both for its time and even compared to alot of modern Marvel movies.
Ghost rider was my first ever super hero and I watched the movie every week he’s the entire reason I’m into comics today Till this day he’s my favorite marvel hero
One thing that I think not enough people talk about is the portrayal of the Spirit of Vengeance itself in the second film. I know what the Spirit actually is, but to the outside world and the world around him, he is a literal DEMON FROM HELL. It makes sense that he is portrayed with all those weird and erratic movements that we see. I think it makes him look a lot more paranormal, a lot more ghostly. I think it's a really good and unique way to portray him.
I say studios should take a break from live action superhero films and make more animated films. Spider-Verse 1 was amazing, Death of Superman (2018) is still the best Superman movie in the past 10 years, and the Dark Knight Returns does everything Zack fails at.
Funny story, this movie came out when I was 3, and my father was a huge fan of the character, so naturally he wanted me to see it. My mother argued against it as I was scared of the green goblin, doc ock and sandman in the spider-man movies at the time. (Ironically the only spider man villain I was fine with was Venom). My dad got it on DVD and watched it on his own before saying he thought I'd be fine watching it, my mother still said no, so he naturally showed me anyway, and I loved every second of it. I thought it was the coolest movie ever and nobody could tell me otherwise. TL;DR I was too scared to even watch spider man 1-3 at the age of 3 because of the villains with the exception of Venom, but would watch Ghost Rider non stop.
There were 4 bone jokes in this video which comes out to one bone joke every 7.5 minutes out of the 30:04 run time. thanks for watching the bone count and be good people
The ghost rider movies stand well enough on thier own. Still decent to rewatch and have as background noise. Cant say the same for the Disney SW trilogy and most of the Marvel movies.
I do remember liking the first one. I think I'd place Ghost Rider in the same tier as Daredevil in terms of how people could recognize him, his design alone is very standout compared to most heroes. I recently played the game to the first movie and it's honestly pretty solid all around. Especially if you like DMC or GOW, it has combat very similar to those games. Also, like many have said, the shot of Ghost Rider and his predecessor riding away into the night together is tough as hell. Great shot.
I appreciate the use of the Suicide song in the beginning. A day or two before this I checked them out, and it's really strange hearing them out in the wild.
When I was a kid, my father and I used to love this movie. He was really religious so he really liked the "super hero who kicks the devil's ass," but he also grew up a nerd and was the one who was buying all the early MCU movies for his personal collection🤣 Watching it again, holy shit I still love it
An R rated Ghost Rider movie would be so cool it would let the people working on the film get closer to the gritty and gothic tone of the original plus an all out brawl with Myphisto and Black Heart would be quite a scene.
And also help them to take to literally horror story and dive into biblical consepts like heaven and hell, Lucifer, sins all that shit, zeratohz (I hope I said his name right) the sprit of vangance is a literal soul of angel who have been kick off from haven so yeah R rated ghost rider with Robert eggers direct it will be gold
I've always said the first one had the story, and the second one had the visuals. Not to the fault of the first one I understand it was a product of its time but had it been released when the second one came out with the updated visuals then we would have witnessed the birth of an amazing franchise. Too bad we don't live in a perfect world tho eh?

The only Marvel movies that had Mephisto before MCU Stans went insane with Fan Theories for WandaVision.
Can't blame people when the show deliberately baited them though. Also the fact Mephisto was important to that storyline
When I was 7 my mom's at-the-time boyfriend snuck me into that movie theatre for Ghost Rider without her knowledge. He knew much more about Ghost Rider whereas I only had a passing interest, as in I pointed at a picture and said "who's that"
if you're out there reading this comment, that was super rad I'll never forget it
They need to bring back all the old 2000s marvel movie characters that had mediocre movies for secret wars. That would be amazing. It could be like their redemption.
Ghost rider 2007 was HELL FUN!! 🔥💀🔥
I remember watching this movie on repeat cause my parents had the movie on dvd and then a year or 2 after the second one came out i remember being excited and watching it in the movies but it never had a third which always disappointed me
this movie is certified 💀 moment
We owe the late great Peter Fonda at least a little more than calling him a "Palpatine looking mf", as on point as the roast is
Especially when he was a huge motorcycle fanatic himself
Gawd dude it would’ve been dope to see Ghost Rider in Deadpool and Wolverine
I wish i liked the 2nd more because it's so much more insane with it's direction but the writing just hurt it. They really blew it with the barebones plot with the devil not Danny Ketch.
superhero films of the 2000s, back when there was no shared universe, your only continuity can be found in the sequels
and they made a video game out of every superhero flick
Fun fact is that Mephisto in the first movie is played by Peter Fonda who is the Captain America bike rider in Easy Rider 1969.
No wonder he gave Ghost Rider a cool bike 😂😂😂
Woah. you just blew my mind. I don't think I've heard about that Easter egg before. how in the hell were you able to find that out. and then putting 2 and 2 together that Peter Fonda was a motorcycle rider in a 70s movie while being cast in this motorcycle movie is a complete mind f♤¿£ . Teach me your genius. lol just messing with you. I'm pretty sure everyone knew that Fonda was in easy rider and it's no surprise that he was cast in this movie
Still kinda disappointed how this underrated anti hero rarely gets the spotlight, most of the time getting the sidekick treatment
Ghost Rider 1 was my favourite movie when I was a kid. So, as ridiculous as it is, Ghost Rider will always have a place in my heart.
"We need Nick Cage in the MCU, the world needs him."
If I'm honestly I like the Ghost Rider films mainly the 1st one spirit of Vengeance is Eh. The films and UMVC3 honestly made me a pretty big Ghost Rider fan I love his character so much especially his penance stare. The films aren't amazing I'll give it that but in the end I just enjoy the 1st film
no way, xavier
you did NOT just upload this on my birthday (which was so not intentional, you don't know me)
this is awesome
happy birthday!
@@featherfly478 thanks!
Yeah a lot of people knew who Ghost Rider is. He's always been at least as big as Daredevil
@@garvitchauhan6265 I'd rather he never see a cinema again than get bastardised by the MCU.
@@SpinoSam Haha, keep crying! Ghost Rider is definitely getting a MCU reboot soon and you can't do anything bro!
I think we can all agree that the ghost rider character looked amazing in the second movie
Ghost rider spirit vengeance was a straight reboot and the major difference with the rider is that in spurt of vengeance Nick Cage plays and voices the rider
As Elvis the Alien said in the title of _his_ ghost rider video: They’re terrible and I love them.
@@brolo4784 he’s referring to the comic versions of wally that in the past 2 decades has been completely shafted by dc in Favor of barry
The Ghost Rider films are literally two of my favorite Marvel movies ever.
I was born in 2002 and ghost rider was the first superhero film I seen. The first movie will always be nostalgic
I appreciate the first movie for getting me into the character but man I just cannot stand ghost rider under a PG rating lol
I have a feeling the 2000s would’ve been kinder to Moon Knight with how risky these early 2000s CBMs were
It felt like they were always trying something different back then
Ngl THESE were the movies that got me into superhero cinema
Still a guilty pleasure to this day
While I think the first movie is overall a much better adaptation of the character and a more entertaining movie, I do have to say that I find myself revisiting the Ghost Rider scenes from SoV much more than the ones from the first movie.
I remember watching the first movie with my step mom and dad. I was terrified of it as a kid! I’m surprised my dad watched it cuz he’s catholic.
Ghost rider was my first ever super hero and I watched the movie every week he’s the entire reason I’m into comics today
Till this day he’s my favorite marvel hero
The main problem with Daredevil and both Ghost Rider movies were the poorly written villains.
Kingpin was better written than Bullseye.
I love the dynamic between these funny ha ha men
7:34 Here, let me help put it another way; the movie committed to making him look like a straight up Twilight reject.
I say studios should take a break from live action superhero films and make more animated films. Spider-Verse 1 was amazing, Death of Superman (2018) is still the best Superman movie in the past 10 years, and the Dark Knight Returns does everything Zack fails at.
We definitely need a Ghost Rider cartoon like the Spawn cartoon
Here's to hoping we get a Daredevil 2003 video while we're getting vids on 2000's Marvel movies
Just want to say that your videos have gotten a lot better over the years!
I love these videos, it's always cool to see you collab with someone
There were 4 bone jokes in this video which comes out to one bone joke every 7.5 minutes out of the 30:04 run time. thanks for watching the bone count and be good people
I just LOVE the design of the rider in the second movie
Oh God. I'm glad your father survived that accident, best wishes.
The ghost rider movies stand well enough on thier own. Still decent to rewatch and have as background noise. Cant say the same for the Disney SW trilogy and most of the Marvel movies.
Nicholas Cage wasn't the Johnny Blaze we wanted, but he was the Johnny Blaze we needed. 😎
I remember seeing the first one at the drive-in when it came out, and it's a cheesy movie, but the Ghost Rider scenes and him fighting demons is fun
Our dads took my cousin and I to see this when we were 7, and we physically couldn’t take how awesome it was.
One of my favorites alongside Blade, The Punisher, Logan, snd Venom etc
When I was a kid, my father and I used to love this movie. He was really religious so he really liked the "super hero who kicks the devil's ass," but he also grew up a nerd and was the one who was buying all the early MCU movies for his personal collection🤣
Watching it again, holy shit I still love it
Every time Muzzy makes a “joke” I lose a year off of my life
Nicolas Cage perfected Ghost Rider to the cult classic it is today
I didn’t even realize Mephisto was in that movie
These movies suck, but anytime Ghost Rider is on screen it's a 10/10 these movies made me love the character.
The first Ghost Rider is still my favorite movie of all time, and it was what get me into Marvel Comic in the first place.
The pre mcu post Spider-Man era of marvel movies is certainly interesting
The 2007 ghost rider was the coolest ghost rider in my opinion.
