NOTE: If you get a tie and are looking for additional tie-breakers beyond what you find in the rulebook, you can use these measures to break the tie, which were proposed on an internet forums, that supposedly came from the people behind the game: - The player with the less number of development cards (already there, and official) - The player owning the most nobles tiles - The player owning the most gems (chips) - If you're still tied (highly unlikely !) : the last player in the order of play.
This is my all time favorite game, but I'm probably bias to it since it was my first real board, like ya know, a real strategy sit down and play board game, not a simply or chance game like Sorry or Trouble. Thanks for making this video, I think it's perfect for beginners!
I agree! We read the instructions and almost gave up before even playing. Watched this video and in a few minutes we were experts. This video explanation is so good that the game designers who created the instructions should be fired and never to make instructions again for the rest of their life.
Got the mobile version of Splendor. Had no clue what I was doing even after the tutorial. Lost horribly. Watched this. Won the very next game. Great job!
Splendor is so fun, we often play it as 3 games in one. We'll play first to 15, then continue playing to first to 20(or 25), then continue until all cards have been purchased. People often feel they are just hitting their stride when we get to 15 points. This seems to help particularly with our younger players as they have 3 chances to "win" in their mind. There may be some after game trash talk of "Well, I won the game the *real* way", but that's fizzled out a lot faster each time than the "Ah, man! I was just starting to really have fun, and you had to go and ruin it!" feelings we had when stopping when we got to 15 points.
Question. 2 players and I have 10 gems. There is no developmental card that I can buy. Maybe I don't have diamants and all of cards at the bottom needs a whit diamanta. What then Do you skip. But what if you skip for 3 rounds.?
@@erikahvanniekerk1223 You can only have 10 gems at the END OF YOUR TURN. So you pick up some new gems (probably Diamonds in your example ), then put back some of the chips you already had.
After watching this and the Five Tribes tutorial I can honestly say you are the first person I will google the next time I need a game explained. Thanks for the great uploads!
I have played a competition in Montreal and let me tell you that even if it seems an easy game, this game has a lot of strategy involved. I play it with my 8 year old daugther and she's getting better and better. So YES this game can be a great learning tool for kids.
Playing this for the first time at a friend's house later today. I love to be prepared so of course looked up to see if you'd made a tutorial for it, and lo and behold you had! Thanks Rodney!
This was one of the first games that got my wife back into tabletop gaming and me into it. Friends had us over and played it with us. We were surprised how easy it was to follow. Love this game! Anything simple, but full of strategy, is up my alley. Whenever my gaming group gets a new game, you are the first channel we go to to look up how to play! Love your videos, they are extremely useful and well made ^_^.
Your videos are excellent! I just watched this tutorial and Above & Below...along with the corresponding Gameplay series...which is also great! Awesome job all around!!! You really have a knack for simplifying and explaining. I watch a lot of game reviews/tutorials/walk-throughs and usually you get the gist, but with your's I fully understand how to play and can't wait to do so. Thank you!
I thought this game looked too simple and even a bit boring upon seeing some videos. Then I played it and within three games I'm loving it. Almost want to add it to my own collection even though my friend and regular gaming buddy already has it. Simple, strategic, and even suspenseful when everyone's closing in on 15!
After this was on my list for over a year, my wife finally bought it for Christmas. Now, mind you I have been playing it on iPad for a couple of years now. After about three games, not only did y wife totally fall in love with it, now it is yet another game that she always beats me, like ALWAYS. And often with scores of 18 or more.. Ugh. But we definitely have been having a lot for fun with it.... LOL
@@WatchItPlayed Yup. To me, its about the play and spending time with my wife, or the people we play with. I just love playing. We have 24 plays since December 28.

Splendor is an awesome game. After getting introduced to it it didn't take me long to pick up a copy. I've brought it a number of times to our weekly game lunches, and we're able to get new people up to speed pretty dang quick, and are able to finish a game in less than 60 minutes.
@@WatchItPlayed Going through the backlog of comments, eh? Thanks for the heart! :) Splendor doesn't make it to the table as much as it used to, but it'll forever be the 'gem game' that helped me get a number of new players into newer board games.

Great video! We have 2 questions: 1. At the end of our turn if we have more than 10 tokens can we give a different token back or do we have to give back the token we just picked up? 2. Can we reserve a noble? Appreciate your help with these questions.
question! This a 4 person game scenario: Player 1: completes their turn Player 2: had 11 points, and ends with 15 prestige points (triggering end game round) Player 3: had 12 points, and ends with 17 prestige points Player 4: ends with 12 prestige points in this case, since player 3 got a higher prestige point number after player 2 triggered end game: does the game end after player 4 goes? or does play continue to see if player 2 can now beat 17 prestige points?
Once the end of the game is triggered - that's the last round. So when you trigger the last round you want to be confident you're going to win, because someone else COULD get more points and beat you.

+Buck Hope you have fun playing!
I did. its a fun game and I think its fairly easy for a more strategy type game. I introduced it to my friends and they really enjoyed it.
question! This a 4 person game scenario:
Player 1: completes their turn
Player 2: had 11 points, and ends with 15 prestige points (triggering end game round)
Player 3: had 12 points, and ends with 17 prestige points
Player 4: ends with 12 prestige points
in this case, since player 3 got a higher prestige point number after player 2 triggered end game:
does the game end after player 4 goes?
or does play continue to see if player 2 can now beat 17 prestige points?
Once the end of the game is triggered - that's the last round. So when you trigger the last round you want to be confident you're going to win, because someone else COULD get more points and beat you.
really quick and efficient explanation! Thank you
