infinitely. this autechre afx boc. its like finally gaining your phd, and then listening to a tune on the tube and realising you have havent even been born yet. your still trying to figure out how to negotiate the birth canal ;-)
An absolute technical masterpiece. I listen to this on my Atmos 11 speaker setup in complete darkness and it's as close to being on acid trip as I'm ever going to get. The fidelity and positioning on this track is like nothing I've ever heard. Amazing.
Ye bro thats what makes this music so insanely good. Its those micro sounds your brain cant fill in or something. IDK how it works but im heatring this tune again in 20 years and my brain is all mushy.
In ~2000, Warp records artists were doing a lot with noise textures as a percussion element (Plaid's Double Figure and P-Brane EP; Autechre's Chiastic Slide through Confield; RDJ's Drukqs). Even though what was called IDM didn't really ever become mainstream, I still put this era of music up against any electronic music ever made.
I don't understand why music like this isn't what's mainstream. Like the talent and time put into this blows anything on the radio out of the water by far. Such detail in sound design is nuts.
I agree, I mean can you even compare the amount of talent you need to make this kind of stuff to that which you need to make all the cheesy pop songs people listen to nowadays? So many of those pop songs use the same few goddamn chord progressions for practically every song... and to think, the people that work so hard at crafting such a track as this don't even sell half as many records. It's sad, to say the least.
Will Burghard to add to that, anyone who says an electronic musician isnt a musician doesnt know what theyre talking about, putting your creativity in the form of drum machines and synths doesnt make you less of a musican than any band or artists who plays actual instruments
I am not a fan of pop music, but just because Squarepusher is ultra-complex, doesn't mean it's harder to produce than pop. The ones who make GOOD pop music are just as skilled as the ones who make GOOD electronica. In some ways, electronica is easier because there are no rules.
D1rtyraver you're a little looney i think, or just simply uneducated. SP's track 50 Cycles took a dedicated month to compose. Most pop albums are recorded and sent out for publishing in that time period.
Holy shhhhh.. Just found this. Late I know But gdamm. Props to the video production as well. This is...just beyond words. All these Textures and layers and dissonance so tightly woven into one . True artistic talent🏆🏆
I still remember when this came out. Warp records had some kind of contest for Go Plastic videos, and I think this one won. Coming back to this 22 years later, it still does a great job at visually capturing the different moods and textures of this track, which still seems so dense with ideas. I especially like the motif where the "rounder" sine-wave-like sounds are represented by smoother visual elements, especially the siren sound halfway through which is depicted as almost feminine. The video and song still hold up really well! Would still put this up against any electronic music put out today.
definitely dude, fucking classic shit. I dont even really know where to source my modern electronic music that contends with this sort of stuff, tho sick of going thru the same loops, but anyway, i wonder where its at
dreamful suggestion mary, little tear you presented me. such ambiguity i feel as the music directly touches my emotions and i exactly know that this is the process which drags my feelings slowly from real content to meaningless melodies, which start to fill my mind instead of memories. the process which makes a whole humanity forget their problems content and sometimes also existence.. as long as a song is playing, at least in their heads...
Yes he is the GOD of all electronic music. Sadly most people dont know shit and it really is a crime when a decent DJ does not know of the almighty. I once showed a pretty good DJ this song whilst dosing on a heavy amount of shrooms (squarepusher is probably THE best high music of life) and literally changed his way of life (just like psychedelics should do) because of this music. DONT BELIEVE IT? Take a heavy amount of acid and listen to many squarepusher songs and you will understand
Jez4prez1 i can certainly appreciate what you mean, But i think shrooms and acid are a whole different reality. I find that a very intriguing universe.
Eä Its true on both sides, one naturall mind can aprecciate the whistling in the void and another really dont know what's happening inside the void so its the same with good music and especially with great deep pleasure and musical feelings like happening to be sharing ideas between pushing squares and triangles into the emptiness of every living thing full of love and intimacy of pure joy :-)
The best is when he plays this live and then he fuckin flicks that bass and it starts crying all these different sounds.. blows your mind live because it’s so much different yet still so fascinating, it’s how I imagine when people back in the day said that God spoke to them at a burning bush 🥰
This was submitted by the creator to Warp records as part of a contest to create videos for "Go Plastic" songs. I think this one won. But for whatever reason Warp didn't elect to post it themselves (probably laziness or some weird licensing thing). So yeah, it kinda is the official video.
tooth please, yes you are right. MAVRS IN SCORPIVS is actually in september 2014. We dont have that much time. The Singularity is already here. Next date February 13th 2029.

I am a math teacher in a public school. I am going to play this for my students. It feels mathematical and fun. Let's see if my kids like it also.
Coolest teacher ever
well? What happened?

LOL, they thought it was incredibly weird so they liked it. Adolescents usually like weird things.

students exploded, cronenberg style.
Next up... Boards of Canada - Music is Math
We wrote our own using C++. Basically the program is the video, with some input from Photoshop and 3ds max too.
Fantastic video man

i promise, you will survive, though you'll never be the same...moo ha ha ha ha ha ha ;-)
Two words: Port Rhombus
You’re wasting Squarepusher and your sound system and your ears by leaving out an essential part.
Acid helps when you're 8 or 9 speakers short of an 11-speaker setup for sure.
Listening to this high is just, a complete adventure.

thank you squarepusher
Ooh...that crunchy little breakdown at 3:36. Damn, there's so many tiny brilliant one-offs in this track.

Nice.
Love that rising snare at 0:36
amazing song and visuals.. why isn't this more popular? how good does it have to get?
this westcoast oldskool synth oh my gooooooood
I was gonna say funny how it goes all early Dre at the end and still sounds original.
That break at 3:40 is euphoric

Go Plastic was his headfuck masterpiece.
This sounds like the bridge between Aphex Twin and Autechre. Cool song indeed.
State of the fucking art right here!!
Absolutely love it

the pinnacle of jenkinson mentalism
combining that with piano, harp or other relaxing instruments but lines of same complexity & relaxity, & most of it emotional! per moment
omg that snare with the white noise applied to it just drives me crazy. I love it. It's like drugs to my ears.

Very architectural!
Good candidate to head up the new Bauhaus music program...oh wait...didn’t that place close 90 years ago?
Yeah... the Nazis labelled it as degenerate art, a front for communism, and un-German, so when they took power, its days were numbered.
yes!
I love music with singing, Sainkho Namtchylak and Portishead are nice examples. Square still owns even if I don't mind much for his latest acts.
