The good old days, I was a freshman in high school and played for Hasbrouck Heights high school. Football was a way of life. Great memories, thank you for posting this. Man time flies. Thanks for the memories.
Thank you so much for posting this. I was 8 years old when the Giants won this Super Bowl, and I had this VHS tape and wore it out. The writing, narration, music, and pacing of this video is so perfect.
just watched this great NFL Films video (again after many years) of the 1986 Giants Super Bowl journey. S. Sabol and Pat Summerall are classic and this gets better over time for GIANTS fans recapping and seeing all of the 1986 players, coaches and game highlights, as well as the step-back to the Giants' rich history from the '30's through early '60's.
I grew up in NYC in the 1970s and moved to Philadelphia in July 1986, right before the Mets and Giants won titles. Still felt like the home team to me.
Man, I miss watching them 1980s and 1990s era NFL films. This video was well produced with some cool 1980s instrumentals in particular at 22:56, the establishing shot of the Seattle Kingdome and some 1980s funk.
Fantastic! Thank you ! I can’t remember which 86 playoff post game interview when Irv Cross asked Simms and Martin- “ Do know the last time the Giants won a championship?” And Simms said, “No, and I don’t care ! “ Lol I’d love to see that again !
I've always liked Phil Simms since I was a kid back in the 90s (and I've been a Chargers fan since 1993) and I always felt he was underrated and underappreciated by the New York media and their fans. That man helped lead the Giants to two Super Bowls victories without ever having a true number one or two receiver to throw to (one he played in after the 1986 season (XXI) and the other he couldn't play in (Super Bowl XXV) because of a Week 14 injury). But to this day, when it comes to the Giants 1980s, 1990s, and present-day teams, people just want to talk about Eli Manning, Stray #92, Osi Umenyiora, Lawrence Taylor, that David Tyree Super Bowl catch, Tiki Barber, and other Giants stars. Simms gets left out of so many Giants history conversations that it ain't even funny.
I am not even an NY Football Giants fan, but upon learning of Phil Simms, he was the team's original troll versus dynasty franchises. His heyday was against the 1980s 49ers!
A couple of side notes, Don Mattingly and Rickey Henderson lead the Yankees to 90 wins, the N.Y. Rangers were in the conference finals, the Jets went 10-6 and Patrick Ewing won rookie of the year for the Knicks. Yeah, solid year for the big apple.
I don't think the Jets would have gotten past Broncos though, just that at the very least the Browns fans wouldn't have been deluded into thinking their team could have beaten the Giants.

Giants RB Joe Morris was a sight to watch in his prime from 1985 to 1988. Morris was an excellent back in his day, emphasis on "his day". Back then he averaged 284 carries per season in his prime at 5'7" 195 pounds. But in today's NFL even as talented as he was, he'd be sharing carries with two or three other backs and/or returning kicks. He was the Giants' lead back in his prime but by 1989, injuries and all those carries and pounding his little body took from 1982 to 1988 (including games and practices) was taking a toll on him. Plus, he was dealing with contract issues with the Giants. Morris should have two Super Bowl rings because he should have been a part of that 1990 Giants team, sharing carries with Ottis Anderson and rookie Rodney Hampton. Part of the reason why the Giants drafted Hampton in '90 was because Morris was long gone, and they wanted someone faster and shiftier to complement Anderson. Lewis Tillman wasn't the number two back that the Giants hoped for. Anderson couldn't cut like Morris, and he didn't have the breakaway speed that Morris had. Man, injuries, body wear and tear, and contract issues ended the Morris saga or adventure.
Started watching the giants in the 70s weren't all that good. Then came coach parcels, never missed a game since. Now we have a new coach 😅 and believe you me this guy comes right out of that same mold IT Won't be long
1981 Giants season was the first time they reached the playoffs since 1963. That was LT's first season. The head coach that year was Ray Perkins. Bill Parcells was the linebackers coach, then defensive coordinator before taking over as head coach in 1983.
Is it me, or has anyone ever noticed Bill Parcells has NEVER won a Playoff game without Bill Belichick as an assistant? Did anyone ever would think, Belichick would be one of the greatest coaches too ever coach the game?
It's just you. 1993 - Parcells led the Patriots to the SuperBowl where they lost to Brett Favre and the Packers. 1998 - Parcells led the Jets to the AFC Championship Game where they lost to the defending Super Bowl champion Broncos.
The greatest team in the history of the New York Giants. 17 - 2 and Super Bowl champs.

If gastineau didn't hit kosar the jets would of been in the super bowl with the Giants but it wasn't meant to be
I don't think the Jets would have gotten past Broncos though, just that at the very least the Browns fans wouldn't have been deluded into thinking their team could have beaten the Giants.

The Mets were incredible too! Real talk.
Does everyone know that Bill Belichick was on the field for every New York Giants Super Bowl win? Great video !!
not saying the 1986 giants D was better than the 85 bears but a conversation could be had as to who was better

Eli Manning made zatloukal very easy
I think the 86 Giants will beat the 85 Bears
The G-Men had too much offense I think if they play them in New York without the wind or anywhere without that wind they win in 85
LT LT LT LT LT LT LT LT 56
Note there are Browns fans delusional enough to believe that their team could have won against that.

Cocaine Giants. The only reason the 86 Giants won was making cocaine a game day supplement.
