- A LOT of crud was in the original source and Topaz cleared it all up - this software continues to amaze me. It also upscaled and sharpened the picture. In addition to the garbage, the picture was also VERY dark, and I used Resolve to majorly brighten it and inject color back in. You can see some before/after screenshots here -- imgbox.com/g/R... -- my thanks to Craig Stevens for providing the DVD files used for this project
49ers were basically invincible all season long. Top 5 NFL season ever. Thanks for providing a pristine edition of this game. 👏 👏 👏
Amazing that this 49er team that lost just once that season was still able to draft one of the best ever in Jerry Rice the following spring.
That PI call on Eric Wright during the Pittsburgh loss was highly questionable. 49ers should have won in OT
It’s interesting how the 84, 88, and 89 SB teams were all better on the road than at home. And in 90’, they again went 8-0 on the road and 6-2 at home.
@@mxxjss THE best ever.
Whenever my Giants are on your channel Dave, it’s a great day. We will never see a great rivalry like what these 2 teams had in the 80’s and early 90’s again.
I just love these 49ers games from the 80’s, especially Monday night games. Just the flood of memories. This was in October, so my dad would just be getting home from the fields. I smell cotton lint and spindle grease just at the mere sound of Frank’s voice.
As a Giants fan growing up in the 80’s, I LOVED this rivalry!
I miss my Giants being a good team 😭😭
After years (mid-70s) of only getting the Superbowl on TV down here in Australia and then the playoffs from 1980 onwards we finally got a weekly broadcast with the 1984 MNF games!! Great times.

Wow that is a drastic difference. I'm glad you are a niners fan (im assuming). It's awesome getting to see these games again. Any chance you have any classic Sf Giants games?
Thanks Jeff. I was a Niner fan back in the 80's and 90's. I no longer follow sports. I might have one SF Giants game from the early 80's.
Joe Cool at his best. To me he will always be the G.O.A.T., with all due respect to Mr. Brady. This team went 15-1, and manhandled a Dolphins team in the Super Bowl that they were supposed to lose to, yet you never hear them being spoken about as one of the greatest single season teams of all time. Consider this was pre Jerry Rice too, who they STOLE in the '85 draft!! Great job as always Dave!!
The Niners only loss that season came the following week vs. Pittsburgh, IIRC.
You knocked it out of the ballpark again!!!! Awesome....
Dave, I can't say enough for the job you do with these videos. I feel like I'm watching them in real time again. Simply awesome!!!
OJ wasn't a killer broadcaster like he was a killer running back
OJ was just a stone cold killa'.
Should have been a Bronco! 🤣
This team stopped marino from winning one super bowl. What an under appreciated team. Just stacked!
This was essentially Bill Parcells F it season. The beginning of those tough Giants teams.
Yeah they were 9-7 that season.
wow this is the best copy I've ever seen of this game great job
And the Niners were doing this well *before* they got Flash 80.
Parcells and Walsh had a very friendly relationship. I know they were rivals, but I remember many broadcasts where were cutting up and joking with each other. Good times!
Something else. Despite how this game went, the Giants fought hard in the divisional round two months later against the 49ers. The game was closer than the final score would indicate.
I had a friend that was big giants fan was driving home to watch this game got a flat tire on the way he was very upset that he was going to miss the start well he didn't miss much a blowout by my 49ers
Hi Dave I have a LOT of stuff from the 1980s. TBF it's mostly NBA, but a few NFL and NHL games. Let me know if you would like to poke around and see if there's anything you can use....
I just learned that Russ Francis died in a plane crash on October 1, 2023. RIP Russ.
Wow, I hadn't heard that
Renaldo Nehemiah had some serious wheels.
He was tabbed to be the successor to Freddie Solomon. Then that kid from Mississippi came along. What was his name?........Rice?
One of the fastest guys in the world at the time.
As a rookie, he took one of the most vicious hits I’ve ever seen when Kenny Johnson took him out. Kenny stopped and checked on him, like he was making sure Nehemiah was still alive
I recall seeing the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper sports section around 1984, which listed the annual salaries of the 49ers. I was stunned that Renaldo had a higher salary than Dwight Clark. My recollection of the exact amount after 40 years is a bit dim, but I seem to recall the difference was around $5K.
But back then I was clueless that those professional athletes had agents doing the salary negotiating, which may have played a factor with the salary differences.
Wasn't he a former track athlete?
@@billdang3953 Yes he was. He ran track at the University of Maryland, but didn't play football. Regardless, he tried out with several NFL teams after he graduated from Maryland and ended up signing with the 49ers.
Thank you Dave!!!
The text/graphics pop out from Dave's videos. I'm not quite sure how many channels I've seen this quality of restoration of old broadcasts.
Thanks Mark :)
Not many
Don Meredith was a great announcer. Telling OJ how did you know that.
The Good News from October 8, 1984: there was a MNF game between the 49ers and Giants on ABC. The Bad News from October 8, 1984: the 49ers-Giants MNF on ABC was up against the NBC Monday Night at the Movies world premiere presentation of one of the all-time great made-for-TV movies ever made "The Burning Bed" starring Farrah Fawcett of Charlie's Angels fame. NBC's presentation of The Burning Bed that night handed ABC one of it's worst rated MNF games ever.
They even talked about that in a nfl network epsiode of timeline narrated by Rob Lowe. How the NFL was beat out by the burning bed
The best 49ers! Joe was at his best. He was younger and mobile.
Looks like they were playing on a pool table.
At least better than the old Candlestick Park artificial turf...
Go 9ers, my team since 1979
I predict nines & dolphins in Superbowl ...
Good news was Cosell finally gone - but still Dandy Don and the 'other guy'...
Yeah before Al Michaels (1986) and Dan Dierdorf (1987) Joined Monday Night Football With Frank Gifford.

Rip OJ Simpson..Frank Gifford
Poor Frank, Dandy Don and O.J. were horrible.
OJ
Don Meredith was drunk most of time. As Pat Summerall was inebriated most telecasts.
Meredith was high on weed and drunk
@@michaelskurski912 Those Texans sure love their Mary Jane. 😅
@@michaelskurski912 For sure. 'Johnny Joe Idaho'? 1:01:22
THE JUICE!
Is it just me , or does Don Meredith sound just like Goober Pyle?
PBP: Frank Gifford
