    Smart move by Collectors. SGC has excellent customer service, turnarond times, history and consistent grading. PSA gets overwhelmed with submissions commanding nearly 80% of the market. SGC in my opinion will be utilized by PSA to help with turnaround times. I will still use SGC.

    I go thru SGC because I hate everything about psa and all the idiots that prop up their ugly product. SGC 10 is always a 10 no matter what. A psa 7 could be a psa 10 I have seen it happen

      SGC 10 can have some surface damage.
      It’s the same with PSA and centering.

    • @jcbuckeye
      @jcbuckeye 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      No, it can't. Now if you are talking about a vintage card that is still a 10 That's a different story What?It takes to get a ten in the nineteen sixty one tops Is less than one , it takes to get a ten and a 2021 justin fields prizm rookie. As it should be. Nobody can argue that sgc Isn't the far superior consistent grading product. You can say you don't like the cases over p s a But the product is better and the cost is lower.. I will be out of your buying SGC 10s at a discount for all my pc cards And in fifty years When my kids are selling them They will be worth more.

      @@jcbuckeyeI just added a comment that states a few similar thoughts you just stated. A SGC 9 or 10 are strong grades and would easily cross to PSA 9 or 10 and a SGC 9.5 could go either way, but I say 60% to PSA 10. Too many sell their souls and prop up PSA where I feel the same way. The biggest difference is PSA more lenient with centering and SGC more lenient with surface finish. I would rather have stronger centering standards as that affects card appeal more. I have graded with both, but I am doing a wait and see approach here because I feel SGC won't survive this.

    • @buffalobill9793
      @buffalobill9793 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Ya PSA is a joke. The slab might say it's a ten but you will always wonder if it really is a 10. I would never pay for a PSA 10 because I know half at least maybe as much as 80 to 90% are not worthy of the generous grade.

    • @buffalobill9793

      @@floridamaddogg there isn't an Sgc 9.5 slab out there that would fall to a PSA 9. PSA slabs might cost the most but there is little doubt the grades are the weakest in the business.

    Obviously nobody knows anything for sure and Geoff and Joe both make very good arguments. I have to agree more with Joe in that I think this is a huge win for the SGC brand. In every regard, other than resale value which is a big one, SGC is by far the better company. Customer service, turnaround times, consistant grading and hands down the best looking slabs. Whether modern or vintage, cards always look better in an SGC slab.
    It only makes sense that Collectors Universe purchased SGC as they are gaining traction on PSA and wanted to obtain them while they still could. As large and as important PSA is, they are slowly loosing their overall market share to SGC and I think this will continue as SGC is the superior company, but it’s hard changing peoples minds as there are so many diehard PSA fans.
    SGC is known for their consistent grading and regardless what happens, would never fall into a category of companies like BCCG, GIA, or anybody else. SGC now has more financial backing and I believe will continue the slow climb to the top of the grading card industry. But I could be totally wrong too, haha 😂

    Please make a video about if/when companies will turn to AI grading. There would no concern with crossover if there was a consensus on an AI grading point scale used by all companies. Do we need regulation for this to happen? Why are we not there by now? If you have grade GM 10 from A company, it will cross over to grade GM 10 at B company. The only issue from the consumer is slab and set registry preference. This will eliminate most secondary market issues.

      Also of course people like the sub grades. They should. It should be mandatory that all grading companies have this. It let's the customer know where the flaws on their cards are and if your card that you thought would get a 10 but comes back anything less sub grades are valuable information. I think they should be mandatory in the hobby because they also hold the grader accountable for their grades. I have not and nor will I ever buy a card in a Psa slab. Psa 10's are junk grade 10's.

      (From Joe) - I think the biggest reasons for their drop in market share has been slower turnaround times than any of the other 3 leading companies as well as a lack of strong marketing about their brand, coupled with mistakes like announcing a new grading scale and then pulling it back as well as announcing a new grading service (Beckett Select) and then cancelling that over a short period of time. Completely ineffective leadership (at the corporate leadership level) with no vision for the future of the company. Our reps there are outstanding, but their leadership ( in 2023) was sorely lacking. I've heard changes are underway there; here's hoping they turn things remain before they are completely irrelevant to the grading industry.

My opinion is based upon the fact that there can be great synergy when 2 great companies (both led by individuals who understand the heart of collectors) learn to take the best from each other to improve both brands. I've seen what happens when outside entities (that have no clue about what matters to collectors) buy a grading company (can you say BGS). I'm very happy that something like this did not happen to SGC. My opinion is based upon my experience of leading a global sports card company for 33 years and working hand in hand with PSA & SGC for 26 years and BGS for 23 years.

    There is no way SGC survives this. I don't agree with Jeff regarding his thoughts on SGC. Obviously he doesn't want anyone to dethrone PSA because that would hurt him. I can easily see PSA viewed SGC as a premium brand. But no matter my opinion or Jeff's, bottom line SGC will be gone within two years. I'm either going to cross over my SGC slabs to PSA or wait until PSA offers a $5 cross over service to all existing SGC slabs to PSA. PSA should honor grade for grade and when it comes to SGC 9.5, have PSA look it over and decide either 9 or 10. I am no longer grading with SGC because of this which is sad because i liked SGC. I have graded equally with both up to this point.
    Edit: i automatically autocorrected the spelling of Geoff's name. Also, SGC is more consistent and even though a PSA 9 modern card will sell more than a SGC 9, an SGC 9 will easily cross over to PSA 9. SGC is tougher overall. The biggest difference is PSA is more lenient with off centering and SGC is more lenient with surface finish. I would rather have a more strict off centering standard than surface because off centering hurts the visual appeal of the card more.
    I would support Fanatics buying CGC over Beckett anyday. Obviously Geoff wants Beckett to benefit himself, but CGC actually has amazing grading standards, best looking slabs in the business and a company i would gladly send cards to for grading.
