I totally concur. I tried to listen to one young artist on this past Saturday's broadcast of the Met young artists competition and just couldn't. I kept hearing Gruberova, Sutherland and other greats singing this.
I've got the DVD of this production: it's something really astounding! Gruberova is perfect as Konstanze, Araiza is a wonderful Belmonte, really charming Reri Grist as Blondchen, Norberth Orth is a very good Pedrillo, but the really top is Martti Talvela as Osmin.... incredible voice, a great sense of humour! And Karl Bohm is the real interpreter of Mozart's music! A MASTERPIECE!
Diese Arie von Edita erinnert mich an die alten Zeiten unter August Everding in München.Faszinierend die Präzision von Edita Technik.Einzigartig das Dirigat von Karl Böhm.Und erinnere mich an die Zauberflöte für Kinder.Freudige Erinnerungen.Toll.
As I read in a review (in another context) " . . . [this is] a great, shaggy, triple-decker beast [of an arIa]." I have also read that this aria is probably the most difficult piece ever conceived for the voice. Regardless, one must honor a soprano willing to take it on. One thing I must say about Gruberova, she had the most amazing breath control! Brava Edita! You are missed!
La conocí solo en discos ahora en esta plataforma, no soy gran conocedor, pero se me eriza la piel siempre que pongo sus discos. Ahora a celebrar la vida de esta gran cantante.
lolol. Actually, you know more than sh_t about music, because you've learned to love it and it went from your ears into somewhere in your heart (sorry if this sounds sappy).
La orquesta es magnífica como ninguna en esta interpretación de la música de Mozart. Ella es magnífica con su voz, la escena y la actuación dejan mucho que desear!
Conductor Solti recorded this opera with Ms. Gruberova under Decca few years after this Vienna production. Inside the booklet Maestro Solti wrote: My wish to record Entfuhrung' arose from a very touching event, which took place at the Vienna State Opera on 27 September 1981, as a homage from the musical world to the great conductor Karl Bohm, who had died less than two months previously. I was to perform the Prelude and 'Lievestod' from Wagner's Tristan and one of the earlier contributions was Konstanze's aria 'Traurigkeit,' sung by Edita Gruberova. Her performance was so moving that I returned home determined to record the complete opera with her. It took nearly three years to put the project together and to assemble the wonderful cast. By that time Edita Gruberova had decided she would no longer sing Konstanze on stage. We were most fortunate that she agreed to make this recording, thus preserving a performance, the quality of which I believe will not be equalled for many years to come.
This is one of two Mozart arias also Maria Callas sung. Tutti le torture. But Gruberova, I’m a great fan of both, brings the spirit of Mozart. La Callas made it technical perfect, but missing the soul of this aria.
Anyway Callas didn't like Mozart, saying his music was boring and dull, and she was right. This aria has no soul that's just the usual (and always the same) vocalizations by Mozart, that do not even have a relationship with the text they accompany.
It's depressing and unfair, I didn't live to witness this with my own eyes, and I know for a fact I will never see anything like this with my own eyes in my lifetime... RIP legend... what a crap life lies ahead...
Gruberova is the greatest IMHO. I have performed live with her many times and she was always so centered and controlled, but during the concert/opera turned on the emotions big time, as opposed to just getting it right during rehearsal. Watching (listening to) this video I was somewhat disappointed by the lack of supportive emotion (emotional support?) by the Bayierische Staatsoper orchestra. While they play extremely precisely in accompaniment, it lacks nuance, direction, build-up. Generally too tame. The solo strings are just beautiful, but that is not what the music is about. This should be a s3x thriller, like Fatal Attraction or Basic Instinct. Much more dynamics are needed, and at least try to match the intensity of G's singing! At times it all sounds laboured. I recommend this as a comparison th-cam.com/video/sV1O9qb72YM/w-d-xo.html Thank you Edita
R.I.P MS. EDITA GRUBEROVA. LOVED YOUR VOICE. IT WAS A VOICE FROM THE HEAVENS.
I did not know she is deceased. She was a great opera singer.
Maravillosa interpretación. Insuperables legatos sostienen la exigida coloratura. Esta es una verdadera artista. Nunca te olvidaremos, querida Edita.
The best interpretation of this aria. Perfection. Miss her so much. RIP diva!
I'll never forget her voice and performances.
Edita's voice control is absolutely superb in here... throwback to the old days when singing was a matter of talent - not of money and sponsorship.

Wow! Gruberova's technique is rock solid!
I'm listening to different conductors right now, and I love the lightness Bohm brings.
