    I really loved this movie I hope it gets super successful that we get two more films to finish out the trilogy on top of that I also hope that we get a new anime that tells the complete saga including the first half and the second half of the manga Battle Angel lost order.

    I saw this movie last weekend and I loved it. Although I've never read the manga, I'm a big Science Fiction reader so I had no problem following the plot threads and themes. I've heard people criticize some of the dialog as being corny and in a few places (especially the romance) it was, but I think most of those lines were taken directly from the manga as fan service.
    What other reviewer miss is that aside from basic language skills and fight programming for self-defense, the character Alita started as a blank slate. So, even thought her first body was that of a teenager, the psychological development before she was forced into conflicts was that of a very young child. Like a child, she took delight in her surroundings and exploring a relationship with her 'special friend', this makes her all the more endearing. Of course conflict did eventually arrive and that brought forth repressed memories and knowledge, something reflected in her transition to the more mature looking, new, more powerful berserker body.
    I have to say the computer animation was top notch. Out of over two hours there was hardly twenty minutes on screen where things could possibly have been done a little better.

    • @tomnorton4277
      @tomnorton4277 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The film knew when it was being corny so I feel that the people who complain about that have no leg to stand on. Alita's speech results in her being mocked by Zapan and the other Hunter Warriors whereas almost any other movie would have had them cheering for her. She even draws attention to a cheesy moment when she jokes with Hugo about how "intense" it was when she offered him her heart.

    Cameron planned Trilogy from the start. I think many people aren't used to Anime Style Story telling. They been brainwashed by simple Marvel movies, where "there is bad guy, there is good guy, doesn't matter why, they beat each other up, and good guy wins" it's simple and doesn't leave any space for imagination. While Japanese Anime telling stories differently, doesn't tell everything from the start, and leave some space for imagination and fan theories. Like what's in Zalem? why there was a war on earth with Mars? and stuff. Let's take One Piece, there is like million Fan Theories out there about different things, cause you know s*it what's going on there :D Most people are not used to this, and new things can scare them away.

      The funny/saddening part about this is the movie heavily simplifies things from the source metarial (mostly understanable simplifications, film really does not need even more expository explanation)

    • @gembocobo9484
      @gembocobo9484 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you but the way i see it the marvel movies did its part where it prepared some of the folks who don't know about this property to expect the unexpected. Another thing we can appreciate is that the marvel formula of the marvel films can create a true craving for something VERY DIFFERENT.

    Critics dont't know that a lot of the lore only explained later in the manga and a lot of lore also not fully explained in the manga. What i really like is they made Alita a believable character, she is pure and naive but had a warrior spirit. The sewer fight scene was my favorite, totally straight out of the manga.

    I don't know why but Ido has gotten better with each adaptation. When they took him from the manga to the anime he got better. At this point I like like the movie Ido better than the anime or manga versions. As for Alita, they toned her personality down and it makes her a lot better. They even give the berserker body a better back story on how it was discovered. To me, the movie Hugo was acceptable, not good but not bad. I probably didn't get too attached to him because knew he was doomed in both the manga and anime. A friend of mind absolutely hated the movie Hugo, his was weird but makes sense.
    As for manga to movie adaptation. This is the second one I've seen that is really good. The first one was a manga called "All You Need Is Kill" that was adapted into "Edge of Tomorrow" with Tom Cruse. And it is a solid adaptation. I would happy to see your review of it, if you haven't done so already.

    I been saying this for YEARS....if you put someone TALENTED behind a project and he CARES, it can work.....everyone says no, its impossible, noo it never work no matter who.....THIS IS MY PROVE, this film proves it....James fucking Cameron knows how to translate this in an UNIVERSAL LEVEL, and it fucking works, and he didn't shy on the Violence, he didn't tone down the TRAGIC, he didn't change the structure of anything just small twerks....and look and behold.....A GOOD ANIME ADAPTION FINALLY, only cost to put a GOOD DIRECTOR, Robert and great screenplay by James Cameron.....great special effects, the perfect cast in Rosa Salazar, beautiful and talented young actress and we have ALITA, no its not a dream and no its not impossible, so the next time you see a crappy adaptation of an anime or a game, blame the people behind, not the source material, James Cameron you are a genius, you are the true king of cinema for a reason, as a long ass fan of GUNNM and waited so long for this film to see the light.....totally satisfying, I have see the film 5 times now, and never got bored not even once, hope we get a sequel for this.

    Great review :) I loved the movie, watched it 13 times, have never read the source material (although I am going to order it as soon as I collect some more money because right now everything goes to the cinema ;))). As for people thinking that Alita looks weird, strange, out of place, etc. - I have one question... Did you think that elves and hobbits in LoTR looked weird? Probably not... I don't get why big eyes are so much different for those people. For me, as a white guy, a person of color looks more different than Alita with big eyes. And I am not a racist, nothing like that, just wanted to give you perspective. There are people of various skin colors, hair, eye shapes in the world, people without limbs, people who are obese and anorectic - everyone looks different and I really don't get why big eyes make a difference that justifies saying 'it's so weird, I don't accept it'.

For example, Rurouni Kenshin live-action Trilogy, The 2006 Japanese Death Note live-action 1&2 was decent too compared to the shitty Netflix Death Note and not to forget the recent Bleach live-action from 2018 which was released in Netflix was Great as well.
