  • Experience the heart-throbbing moments as we fire up some of the biggest and most powerful aircraft engines ever made. Hear the thunderous roars of the Nakajima Sakae 12 Radial, the Allison V-1710, the Pratt & Whitney R-2800, and the Daimler-Benz DB 605. Feel the might of the Pratt & Whitney R-1340 Wasp, the Rolls-Royce Merlin, the Packard V-1650, and the Klimov VK-107. Be in awe of the Wright R-3350-23 A Duplex-Cyclone, the Liberty L-12, and the Lycoming O-360. Finally, marvel at the incredible Hispano-Suiza 12Y.

    Cool Me 109’s. One German, one built under license by Spain after the war. The Spanish version used a Rolls Royce Merlin instead of the German mill!

      You forgot the third one. The DB601/603/605. The Merlin 65. The geared down Junkers Jumo 211 version that was an utter deathtrap.

    V-1650! I knew we built them under license but always thought they were still Merlins here! Great video!

    5:10 Hmm. I thought all the Yak-3s flying today have Allisons, because the Klimovs are no longer available and the engine shown in this aircraft is definitely not a Klimov.

    Fun and very interesting video!!! My first thought is to build (using any of these engines) an eight to ten-seater (or more) gyroplane with the prop blowing backwards. The huge rotor would be tough to deal with moving, parking, and keeping it though. I think the gyroplane is a very sadly overlooked form of transportation. It never got a foothold because nobody's military wanted to use it as a weapon of destruction. (So there's the explanation for lack of funding to develop it.)
    Great video as always, Car News TV!!!! Take care all comments viewers, and "be safe out there"!! (HA! That's my TH-cam signoff....)

    Just got to love how you tried to distinguish the Packard built RR Merlin - as a different engine to the original made in the UK - in an attempt to steal the credit from the RR Merlin which MADE the P-51 Mustang's reputation. Packard-built RR Merlins was also used in Spitfires.

      so there the same?

    • @idleonlooker1078
      @idleonlooker1078 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheNamePi Yes. The Packard RR Merlin, was license-built in the USA. The only difference was to produce the RR Merlin engine using a mass production approach.

    Why is the P-40 Warhawk shown at 2:30 ? It NEVER had a Packard/RR engine! Allison only. Also, at 3:45, that's a RR Griffon with contra-rotating props (much larger 37 litre displacement), NOT a Merlin. Completely different engine. There are probably several other mistakes, but I fast forwarded through this poorly made video.

      If you see a p40 with no little scoop over the nose it's got a merlin they did make them I believe there's only 2 flying today

    And WHERE is the famous big radial engine of the AN-2??? We have one of those Soviet-relics in our flying club in Liberec / CZ. The world's biggest single-engined by-plane.... It deserves a place in this line-up because of all those engines featured, i think the AN-2 has the longest production run of them all...

      The first V1710 Allison ran in 1930. 1936 was the first RR Merlin.
