I have a 58 Porsche Speedster/ Beetle. Getting ready to sell her, she is fun and a beauty Cali Car. Red over Tan and it does make people smile and stare!! I have owned her 11 years, but must be a perfect day for me to drive her. My husband purchased in California had it shipped to Michigan and surprised me with her!! Hope to find a loving family to enjoy it.
Fun video! I just started a series on a Beck 550 Spyder and I have to agree with you on the drive train. Very different than an actual 356. The Beck is pretty solidly built though and it sure does look the part! F
You want a 356A Convertible D replica. It was an updated Speedster with a slightly taller windshield and roll up windows which made it a lot more practical.
No thanks. Cool looking, but still a slug and a death trap. If I had to have a Porsche convertible, it would be a 718 Boxster S, or a new 911 Cab, with all the safety features, power, and comforts of home.

J T as far as I know there’s only one company building the Convertible D right now and they’re very high quality based on VW pans. I wish Beck would build them along with a coupe model since they build all new tube frames for their replicas so no old VW pan as your base.

I totally know how you feel about passing on those old air cooled Porsches. In 2012 I was shopping for my first car and saw tons of them that I could afford, but I knew I couldn't mantain it. Now I look back and wish I'd have just committed lol.

I'm a native Californian and Hoovie has visually captured the best of what living in California can be in this video. The politics are a mess, it's way too expensive and way too crowded nowadays but driving down PCH on a mild day with the top down going to a taqueria, well, it's hard to beat.

The 356 has always been one of my favorites The companies that make the kits. Have Made many improvements. In the kits another Nice feature is the VW. Motors. Have so many realively inexpensive. High performance. Parts plus they are easy to work on by the average shade tree mechanics ive always been impressed on how much horsepower. You can get out of a factory 36 H.P. Engine plus with the right exhaust you can make one sound faster. Than they are

Chevrasaki You are wrong! The Tacoma’s a truck. The Nissan Pathfinder behind him, the Ford Explorer, and the Land Cruiser are all SUV’s. The Kia Soul is a terrible Korean wagon. The only crossover there is the ugly Honda CR-V. However, crossovers in general make me sad that millennials are boring pieces of shit who only care about their own needs.

Typically these are sold as 'reproductions', not fakes. A fake is typically something that is done at low cost in a sweatshop in Thailand and sold as being a named brand, like those $10 'genuine' Ray Bans.
Fake = not genuine. Which is what this car is. Calling it a reproduction is the same as calling a used car, "previously owned". Fancy spin to make it sound better.
Right, a fake is meant to deceive a buyer. This car is sold as a repro and isn't trying to hide that it's a kit car.

I bought a replica speedster and cruised the California coast for a month- what a great time! I also made about 4k profit when I sold it. I am still kicking myself for not buying a real speedster 10+ years ago when they were 40k.

In my hometown there is a big beetle (or air cooled) group where we often meet up. And this porsche is just a Porsche with an Air cooled VW Engine. I saw one at a meet up in June and was allowed to start 'er up.

Hoovie: How about a video on one of the early 2000s Volkswagen Phaetons (either V8 or V12). I had been buying VWs for about 15 years when they came out for an astronomical price (for a VW). They were actually pretty incredible cars at the time but sales were hindered by the VW name (not many wanted to pay $75k+ for a Volkswagen). Not many out there but they can be had fairly cheaply now. Would be fun to see a review of the car and how it compared to the major German luxury sedans of the time!
What a wonderful car! I got to ride in a regular 356 and i was shocked at how much nicer and better built than my 1974 bumblebee 914. It made my 914 actually feel like a Volkswagen instead of a VW /Porsche.

Yeah, i'm not a huge fan of going radiator in an air cooled car. I think i'd rather go with either a pretty stout VW engine and freshen it every 40,000 or so. Maybe turbo but i just dislike having to leave either the luggage or the spare at home when embarking on a trip. I'd probably just start with a Brazilian case and build a proven stroker that i could hopefully get to 160-180hp NA. Or the top quality genuine VW engine internals or vintage Okrasa. My only other choice i think would be an air cooled 6. 911 or Corvair. Actually this could be the best choice for power, longevity and packaging IF a 6 would fit under the stock body work and maybe that's negotiable since the trick to getting VW's low is raising the running gear in the pan anyway. I don't know but what there may be some of this in play to get 356 kit cars the correct stance.

I just sold one of these for $35,000 and what a car for the money! This one was that eggshell off-white color, but the coach builder out of Park Place in Bellevue, WA did an incredible job. The car looks great, drives great also. I just wish the shifter was a little easier to use...not sure of how yours shifted into reverse, but I'm 5 foot 7 and needed to shift my entire body to the driver side door to get it into reverse. Nonetheless, an awesome car for the money!

Having grown up in NC, lived several years in KS, Winfield, Wichita, and Derby, I can agree that Californians seem to not use the indicators the most, but they don't corner that market. Saw it everywhere I've lived. Yep. A pet peeve of mine also.

I had a beautiful 1967 Kharmann Ghia convertible. It was totally stock, with the 1500 engine and 12 volt electrical system. It was one of the best cars I ever had. I should tell you now that I am pushing 70 years old and I had that 67 Ghia back in 1971. I had been to Germany in the U.S. Army and fell in love with VWs. I went from beetles, to ghias, to transporters, westphalia campers...the whole bag of VWs. I did own a 1964 Porsche 356 for a short time. It was always in Willie Lenz garage (My german mechanic), having something fixed at exorbitant Porsche prices. I went back to VWs with punched up engines, koni shocks and empi exausts which filled the bill. Now, I still drive a Volkswagen, and not a brand new one either. It is a 2004 VW Phaeton W12. I do a lot of the minor maintenance one can do like changing the oil, replacing hoses and stuff. Whatever I can do to shut the problem lights off If I can, without a mechanics help. It has 78,000 miles on it, and I only paid $14,500 for it from a one owner person in Southern California. So far, it has been amazing. Quiet, comfortable and powerful. I plan on keeping it for a long time, but then, I am 67, so how much longer is anyone's guess, lol..

CGT, 918, 718 RSK, all of the GT2s (especially the first one), old speedsters (including the 356), 904/8 and 904/6 and so on.
All of them are nearly in the realm of 1m+ not including the GT2s and the speedsters.
If you're talking rough value (as an object), yeah. No classic car is worth more than 200k.
But then, you include rarity, prestige, craftsmanship and pedigree (and maybe nostalgia). Couple that with the fact that we'll never see that kind of build in cars, you've got yourself a hefty piece of history that will have a similar price to any other similar pieces of history in any other category like sport relics and other form of artistry.
