Accuracy, speed, power, thick solid neck and a good chin. Seeing some of his prime double hooks or how fast that double body shot to the upper cut is ridiculous.
I love it when Buffer was introducing Tubbs - "Fighting out of the blue corner, he's wearing his boxing trunks and weighing 238 lbs...." well, I'm glad we were being assured that he was wearing boxing trunks as opposed to something else.
Ali was the philosopher and mastermind in the ring, using his wits to outsmart his opponents and his lightning fast combinations. Tyson was pure power and speed. Few fighters ever throw as many punches in combination as quickly as Tyson did, and none threw with nearly as much power. His 3rd, 4th or 5th punch in any combination still had knockout power with either hand. So surviving a few punches didn’t save you, Tyson was like a power plant generating terrifying power at any moment. He was a ferocious fighter who, like Ali, lost 3 years of his prime due to choices. But Tyson had most opponents beat before the opening bell rang. He terrified people.
Never get tired of watching Mike flatten the ego and bravado of all comers. He must have endured tremendous stress himself but it never showed as he stepped up to take on these bigger fighters. Somehow Mike's intellect and personality survived and he has aged into an introspective and interesting man who still looks built like a truck. Truly boxing's greatest IMO.
The one thing nobody mentioned or talked about in Tysons career is how rounds he won. He just simply came in to destroy people that’s what made him the most exciting boxer in history.
Tyson is by far my favourite fighter of all time. Why all these guys tried to go toe toe with Tyson is beyond me. The best tactic was to stick and move left laterally or Tyson would hit them with a left hook, or right body shot right uppercut combo and it was lights out. Absolutely awesome.
All of his opponents tried to set aside their civilization to fight Mike Tyson. God love him, Tyson didn't even need to try to set aside his civilization to destroy anyone who dared to fight him. He was fully able to access ruthless relentless barbarism. It was like a switch he was completely in control of in the ring, because the moment he was done destroying them, he would walk over and ask if they were okay. Awesome fighter.
I remember watching these fights back in the day, but looking back on them now, I think I’m more in awe. Just a straight up machine. Those body blows, he would land that one that you could just tell his opponents mind and body was starting to shut down.
