Who makes the best pies in the North West? The Rolling Pin Bakery of Newtown, Wigan

Due to bad weather a frustrated Mr H abandons his plans to go for a bimble and instead continues his quest to find out who makes the best pies in the North West of England by staying local for this one and visiting 'The Rolling Pin Bakery' located at Newtown in his hometown of Wigan to try one of their famed meat & potato pies.

Hi Mr H, you seem to like testing out local pies so! if your out and about I recommend if your in Atherton to try Dawson's Pies, my favourite buy is the Corned Beef Pastie, they are to me the best! as a matter of fact I don't think anyone else makes them.well worth a try

Hi Gillian, and apologies for only just replying to you as I'd been away on holiday when you commented.
I have already visited Whittles Bakery in Pemberton and done a review of one of their meat & potato pies as quite a few people had recommended them.
Unfortunately I found them a little too over seasoned for my taste but they are reasonably priced and a nice pie indeed if you like them with a bit of pepper in which many people do.

I’ve used the rolling pin bakery for many years mr h. I used to work at rathbones bakery which used to be across the road pal. Unfortunately it’s been turned into houses now. Anyway we used for many years and it’s as good now as it was back in the day. Very nice pies mr h.
But I would still say go and try the muffin man bakery up in Orrell as there pies are the best by far. Cheers

Meets with my approval Mr.H, I will certainly be calling in to perform my own taste test. Its quite near to me as an Orrellian.
I was a little upset you dropped the score to 4 and 1/2 based on an unknown quantity, that being related to previous owner and standard of said shop. Surely each pie should be rated purely on the produce on the day of purchase?
As for bag size, consider whether the bag is that big because it is designed to accommodate a large sausage roll?

By far the best pies for me 42 years old nothings beat them yet ..yet ..If it’s a pie in Yorkshire ...Then it’s Taylor’s pies best of absolutely all ...And I know not pies but for pasties .. ye olde pastie shop on churchgate Bolton
