  • Sorry for the delay in getting this out. I ended up getting a USALS KU Band Dish mover so that I could take in signals from every satellite in the arc. It's been great, and a lot of fun finding new channels and feeds.
    As a result of this re-found hobby, I've gone on to pickup a massive 7.5 foot C-band dish and I've been getting it setup as well. If you are into HAM or CB radio, or just enjoy the thrill of long distance station receiving, these things will fit right in!

    One of these days I may get into that . It looks very interesting , but for now I barely have time these days to enjoy 30 minutes in a full calendar week of my CB/Ham radio setup. Working for the man is getting old too fast

    I remember my cousin in 02 had a special dish Network satellite box chipped got every channel even had pay per view. You didn't have to click or go through the process of buying the movie just turn to the channel. Whats funny is his mom wanted dish Network and she got it legally. The dish guy kept looking over at my cousin's dish Network pointing the opposite direction of the one he put up. My cousins was running of the Canadian satellite 🤣

    I do FTA and scrambled scan, and have noticed that occasionally some (very few) listed scrambled channels are not scrambled. Also, I have a 10ft Paraclipse digital C-band which brings in tons more channels. I had a lightning air burst recently which knocked out the LNB on my H to H dish (unusual, since it is mounted on the south side of my house, Never had that happen before) and took out my LNBF on my 10 footer! Luckily I had an old LNB for the H to H, and purchased A new one for the C-band digital (they are pricey now!) but will wait until fall to install it, when thunder storm threat passes. If I only had a faraday cage to put over it, LOL! I currently use a GTmedia V8pro2 FTA box for the H to H dish. I was using a KOQIT V5H.265, (a nice upgrade), but the LNB voltage output died, but it is under warrantee until August 4th. So, the GTmedia is it for now! Nice video!

      It's certainly worth a rescan when you land on a sat. Many times there are surprises for sure! Sounds like a close call on the 10 footer!

    Thanks for these videos about this. I came across them as I knew about FTA satellite stuff since I was a teenager in the early/mid 2000s, but back then just a box alone was $100-200 easily, and my mom wasn't about to cord cut back then. But now scrolling through ebay, I've found a lot of boxes for as you said, $20-30, and it's cool it seems a lot cheaper to get into the hobby now, but there overall seems to be less channels and less interesting stuff on TV. :( Though as you said in a last video about information being constrained, it may still be good to have as a backup plan for sure.
    Cool and super helpful videos, though. Thanks a lot!

    Good to hear the Dymco Box is working for you. There is several #FreeSatelliteTV receivers at a very low price on Online Ebay etc. Europe Asia and Africa that is how people watch TV is with a FTA Satellite System. But in North America it is not well known about! Good Video, Love to see the interface for the ElCheepo Fta Box!

    That looks like it has the open box software. If you punch in 6666 in the network menu it unlocks something called Cccam, and that gives you some extra channels off satellites if you have a login (it can connect to servers that got the descrambling codes), you need internet on the box thought

    neat stuff any idea of the freq range those dishes work ? and what is the LO frequency in the LNA , downconverter at the nose of the dish? may try to find one of those dishes and do some testing.

    Erik, Nice series on FTA satellite. I had a 10 ft C band dish in mid 80's to around 2000. I really enjoyed listening to audio channels and watching feeds and FTA video. Watching your series and Robbie Strike is tempting me to grab a KU dish and get back into it. Are there many audio carriers on KU or are they mostly on C band still? I got rid of my "BUD" and equipment years ago but it sure looks like present day equipment makes the hobby a lot easier! I have the room for a big dish, but would prefer the smaller KU dishes if there's a lot of FTA and audio there.

    • @FarpointFarms
      @FarpointFarms  ปีที่แล้ว

      KU has a lot of cool stuff and some audio, but C-band is still kind when it comes to audio. Still, I'd say get a KU band setup with a motor and you'll be busy for ages getting to know all the cool stuff that is hiding up there now.

      There are various brands, some cheap and some expensive, some good some bad... check out Robbie Strike's channel, he's got some reviews on a few. Amazon and eBay are your best bet for finding receivers.

      If you are using the fancy new usals system, yup! It's so nice. Find true west, lock in a day and let the box know what one it's on and it calculates all the others perfectly!
