  • Over 100 TV channels on Satellite 97 West Galaxy 19 KU Band .A blindscan of Galaxy 19 97 west kU band .One of the more popular kU band satellite channels. Featuring over 100 TV channels from around the world. A good satellite to try to aim at if you’re new to the hobby of FTA satellite TV. The transponders are strong so it’s fairly easy to capture. Good practice for aiming a satellite dish, or as a landmark satellite to help dial in other satellites on the geostationary arc.

Hi there, hope all is well and you are having a great blessed safe day.
I recently bought a 4ft fiberglass dish that was used with a direct tv receiver, can it be converted to get FTA satellite channels from my lactation of 23.1764N and 75.0962 W. If yes what else would i need to this going? Any help would be greatly appreciate thanks

I'm just getting interested in this as a hobby. I have a Shaw dish and live near Vancouver. One thing I haven't been able to find is a video on AIMING the satellite dish at the various satellites, and info of exactly where they are in the sky. Can you recommend a video or website?

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I plan on making a detailed video on aiming a dish when the weather improves around here. Here’s a video I made showing a bit about aiming a dish. Starts about two-and-a-half minutes in. Hopefully this gives you some idea of what is involved:
      th-cam.com/video/XdaCIuJ-ozU/w-d-xo.html
Aiming a dish requires you to adjust the east-west direction the dish is pointing (called the azimuth), the up-down angle the dish points into the sky (called the elevation), and the angle of rotation of the LNB (called the skew). All of these settings are specific to your location. A good site to use to find dish parameters for specific satellites from your location is Dishpointer.
      www.dishpointer.com
Enter your location, select the satellite you want to receive, and it generates a report with the correct aiming parameters for your location. 📡

Curious, I am a past Hughes Network Internet user. Now have Fiber, yeah... BUT still own the old Hughes dish which is fairly good side, much like the one in your thumbnail here. Wonder, if any LNB could be purchased that would mount on my Hughes Sat Dish and that way I don't have to buy a new dish, for now, and can test the waters as they say. If I like it, then but a 39"" dish that has motor capability, etc... You happen to know if any LNB could mount on these dishes?

Galaxy 97 West is like the satellite HotBird 13 East in Europe. There are more than 400 channels FTA TV and radio (including NASA HD and NASA UHD). But those who are new to FTA satellite television are tunning on Astra 19.2 East which has more than 500 channels (Mostly from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain) later they search for HotBird 13 East and other available satellites Not to mention those who are receiving FTA satellite television in Europe usually have two or more satellite dishes one is pointed to HotBird 13 East.

@@davebain5007 I live in South Eastern Europe. The problem with Astra 28.2 East is that it has two spots: one for UK and the second for Europe. On the European spot we have CNN, RT, TRT WORLD, some arabic or hindi channels. The only channels worth on 28.2 East are Smithsonian, PICK, NOW 70s, NOW 80s, NOW90s, Clubland TV, MAGIC, KISS, THE BOX. No BBC, ITV, Channel 4. Another problem is with Eutelsat 5 West, since the begining of 2020 we no longer receive french and italian channels on multistream. With the launch of the new satellite they reduced the coverage from Europe (Wide Spot) to France, Switzerland and Italy (Transalpine Spot). On HotBird 13 East most of my friends are watching the italian channels, besides the FTA channels such as RAI there is a smartcard called TIVUSAT CAM that can decrypt most Italian channels like RETE 4, CANALE 5 etc Others speak german very good and are interested on german channels.

You’ll need a linear KU Band LNB. The DirecTV dish LNB is probably not linear, but circular. It won’t receive FTA channels. Make sure you set the LNB frequency correctly in your receiver- this should match the LNB frequency. See the third video below.

    • @NorthcoasterHobby

The first thing is to run a blindscan for channels. This will give you an idea of what satellite you are pointed at and determine what step to take next. If you get no channels on the blindscan, here’s some things to check:
Double check the LNB frequency in your receiver setup menu. It needs to match the L.O. Frequency on the label of the LNB.
Next, check to make sure the LNB power is ‘on’ in the receiver menu. Your LNB needs voltage to work.
Another possibility is that your dish needs to be re-aimed. Move the dish slowly, even a millimeter can make a big difference. Run a blindscan after every adjustment you make.
I know this is a lot of information, but take it step by step and don’t get discouraged. When you lock in your first satellite, it’s all worth it.
Thanks for watching, hope this helps.
