#RUGER #LCR #concealedcarry #tactical #REVOLVER best carry gun, best revolver for carry, Ruger LCR review, LCR 38+P review, best concealed carry gun
I've had my LCR for 10 years now. Got it after hip replacement surgery. My heavier guns became too uncomfortable for concealed carry. The LCR has worked out great. Mine is 38 spl. Did two upgrades. Put a Hi Viz green dot front sight on it, and a set of Roger's Enhanced LCR Grips. This is my daily carry and I am very confident with it.
Like the Roger grips? They much better than stock Hogues?
@user-jd8gv9td3l I like the Roger's grips way better than the stock LCR grips. I can get all three fingers on the grip, no pinky dangle. Also, my speed loaders work better as the Roger's is a harder rubber than the Hogue grips, allowing the speed loader to slide in faster and more precisely. Practicing reloading is a breeze.
@@michaelmccabe4725 Sounds great... I'll grab a set. Thanks!
@@user-jd8gv9td3l BTW, I use the 5 Star speed loaders. They work great with the LCR.
Did yours come with the big dot front sight originally? I thought about sending mine to Novak to get slicked up. Do you think this is overkill for an up close personal gun?
I just checked out the grips an ordered a pair. Thank you for sharing!
This is one of the most underrated gun channels. Keep up the awesome work!
It's probably my most carried pistol. It's loaded with the hot Remington HTP +p and i have no doubt with it..
I started carrying in my 1968 rookie year and the main thing I learned is large, heavy guns eventually get left behind. In retirement my EDC is a light J Frame, or LCP if the .38 cannot be adequately concealed.
Just watched you review of the Ruger LCR 38 special. Your evaluation of the firearm was right on. Honest, not exagerated and considerably accurate. I have had over the years a number of pistols,22, 32, 380 and 9 models. Each one having one special benefit, but over all I like the Ruger 38 special LCR. You hit the nail on the head. Keep posting.
I love this one also! it's great except for one thing, I'm 65 it's brutal on my hands when I shoot it, yes its really light and you can put it anywhere......
I bought a Glock 30 2 weeks a go that thing is insane hard on my wrist I’m going back to my lcr I also have a lcp2 22 I pick up a sig p365 380 next week I hope it’s ok I just want more rounds the way things are going good luck
@@danthompson1467I was thinking about the Glock 30, 45 ACP? But in a small package is hard on the hands as well...P365 380 sound better!
@@indyanna5683 I will let you know how it shoots the angle of the Glock could be some of it to I’ve never had a Glock before and I would say I will not buy another my smoothest shooting 45 is a cz 97 love that gun but hard to carry
I agree, even with practice ammo. However, I have tried low velocity semi-wadcutters 650-750 fps and it’s not too bad.
I really like the LCR. Why is it brutal on your hands? I thought this model had less recoil than the other 38 special revolvers in this size group.
i carry my mine at the 3 it's so light and comfortable i have to keep reminding myself that I have it on me, and 38+p is a good cartridge
"Meh..."
Great review on my favorite handgun for edc. Cant be beat in town or in the woods. I carry speed strips, 2 if I feel its necessary. Good channel, thanks.
I purchased the LCR a couple years ago as a backup, it's so light and fits my pocket so well I end up carrying it most of the time.
The grip hasn't been a problem the way it sits against my body and it helps with recoil.
Nice video. At the range, after about 5 cylinders of 38's, I am done. Kind of abusive on the hand, even with these nice, big grips. I can easily shoot 100 rounds of 124 grain HST and FMJ 9mm in my Hellcat and not experience much hand abuse. everyone is different.
Man-up dude.. 38's are next to nothing out of this! Comfortable? No, but easily managed..
I agree. I had an LCR years ago, not a pleasant gun to shoot IMO. I carry a S&W Shield 45 acp, no problem with recoil at all. Also a S&W model 37 airweight 38 spl, again no problem. That LCR would beat the crap out of my hand lol.
I found this model to be too light for me, personally (I use to have the LCRx .38 Special +P; traded it in for the .357 Magnum LCR)... And it's not a 'range gun', anyway - but you should still practice with it from time to time. Now .357 Magnum through the Magnum model are absolutely BRUTAL; like you're firing a high-powered .44 Magnum, in terms of recoil (best saved for defensive purposes only)!... Going up to the much heavier SP101 is also another option.
My ccw teacher taught us dry fire is more important than live fire. Practice your draw and dryfire your weapon after you draw. This will help more than live fire is what I was taught also he used to be a US marshal. Of course still live fire your weapon but dryfire is cheaper and so important
@@ShukriTawil I've heard about this... I need to get into this habit. Thanks! 👍
The good thing about the LCP is you can get in .327 also!
Pricing in South Central PA is $550 - $600 / I wish that this revolver was made - at it's exact weight in .32 S&W Long
My 2 favorite IWB holsters for LCRs is Phylster's City Special and Harry's Holsters makes a very good revolver holster. These are both a little expensive but very high quality.
HAdmine for 20 years love it!
Neat trick. It has only existed for 15 years!
@@cloud5buster Indeed, time flies.
Love the ruger and the smith 638
Great job with this video. I pretty much agree with everything you have to say about the LCR. I prefer my S&W 340 PD for pocket/ankle carry, due to the smaller grip. However, the LCR checks more boxes in stock form than the competition does in my opinion. The trigger is excellent, the sights are fine for a snubbie and the front sight is pinned for an upgrade. Lastly, the recoil is mitigated by the polymer sub frame and the excellent Hogue grip. Definitely less felt recoil than my S&W 340 PD and Kimber K6S. The Kimber K6S DAO is a really nice revolver, but is much heavier. The LCR is a great all round carry piece! Thanks for sharing.
Wow bro u have all 3 revolvers i dream to own 🤤 i do own the LCR in .357 good to know u have a high opinion of it owning all 3.
@@cacaman17 Yeah and I just bought a Kimber K6S DAO 3". It's a real nice piece too! Take Care Bro.
I'm also a snubby fan, but unfortunately my eyes are too tired for small ramp sights. That's why for ME the best carry revolver is the LCRX 3". I give up pocket carry, but the weight is unbelievable for its zise and I have proper adjustable sights with fiber optic front. In a sticky holster appendix is my always gun when I don't want to carry a gun.
Get the one with the Crimson trace laser site on it. Zero the red laser dot to the point of impact put the red dot on it and bang. I am old as dirt too.
I think the grip is my no-go. I'm a smaller guy, and I pocket carry a 642. a grip bigger than the 642 would be problematic unless I changed to IWB.
There's a great Hogue "boot bantam" grip for these that slims the profile down further. Helps it conceal easier and it's typically better for folks with small hands.
Cool review. How do you feel like the LCRX? I really enjoy a hammer but do you think it defeats the purpose of conceal carry for this model?
Turned 60 a few days ago and trying to stay ahead of the curve. Was considering this model in 9. You don't like? Have so many semi-autos would be nice to consolidate to one caliber.
I have the Ruger lcr in 22lr but was interested in this for personal protection since 22 only for plinking. I was also looking at the 442 which in your opinion is better Ruger lcr or 442?
I have the .357 version--I've thought about adding either the 9mm or the .38 Special version, such as this one. Maybe both ...
.357 can shoot .38 special...why have both?
@@giannihernandez9597 The .38 Special version is three to four ounces lighter than the .357 version--or even the 9mm version.
@@erikwaters4672 oh
9mm is a literal waste of money when they make semi autos that carry more rounds and are smaller
@@HatsuneM1ku01 semi autos are less reliable and it's stressful to carry with one in the chamber
Is there something thay prevents accidently putting 357 in a 38 only gun?
yes, the cylinder space is shorter on a 38 which prevents a 357 from loading.
You need to try the Kimber K6XS, six shot revolver!!!
I have an LCR. IT is ok, what I don’t like is that after all these years of production, THERE ARE LITTLE TO ZERO alternative grips available, those Hogue grips are just wrong for me.
"There's a great Hogue "boot bantam" grip for these that slims the profile down further. Helps it conceal easier and it's typically better for folks with small hands." A comment above and there are other grips if you look...some shown on TH-cam with a search.
Look into the hogue piranha g10 grip,it gives a full grip but is slightly thinner in the swell. there is a youtube vid a guy did and I did the same mod
The LCRx 38+p and 3" SP101 .357 are probably my most carried guns. The LCRx is so easy to conceal and light. I was looking at my buddies Sig compact last night, not sure the model, but small compact 9mm. It is twice the weight of an LCRx and not as easy to conceal. The revolver is just as simple as it gets and can be way more powerful than any auto. Of course I'm talking about the big dogs, .357, .44, .454, .45 Colt, .460 S&W, .480 Ruger, .50 Wyoming and .500 S&W. But of course we are talking about small concealable guns here. And the .38+p does not dissappoint. Hell, if you want, you could even shoot Buffalo Bore .38+p hard cast Keith Outdoorsman, also known as the .357 short. Anyway, the LCRx is just a nice warm weather carry option with speed loaders in my opinion. I do also have an early 1980's Walther PPK in 9mm Kurz or .380 acp that I have yet to test. But man, that thing is also a nice little pocket gun profile.
Whats your favorit combat/war Pistol?
Is there a lighter grain cartridge for this gun?
Yes, 95 grain
Is 9mm stronger than plus p?
No, 9mm plus p is stronger than 9mm.
The Ruger LCR 38 SPL+P much better than the S&W 442 or 642 just not great guns
The old S&W 36 was excellent back in the 1950s if you could find a Ruger LCR buy it they are hard to find 🇺🇸💯👍
I guess you never heard of Gunbroker?
Lol
How many rounds does Ruger rate this.
I have this gun and shooting+P ammo out of this thing is nothing short of painful. Muzzle flip, muzzle blast and recoil are off the charts. This gun is no fun to practice with and you won’t be shooting more than a couple of cylinders with this nasty little pocket pistol and you will be done for the day. You better drop your perp with the first round too because he will be on you before you can fire off a follow up shot. Don’t buy this gun amigos, you will regret it after the first time you fire it. Light and concealable for sure, but I promise you you will have buyers remorse after the first cylinder of +P ammo. If you want an LCR that’s fun to shoot and can serve as a reliable defensive weapon, get the 8 shot LCR in 22 LR. Many have done exactly that after one session at the range with this nasty, hand stinging, recoiling, muzzle flipping beast. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Yep. That recoil response feels way different than in a small semi auto. The 642 I used to own felt like somebody beating my hand with a baseball bat. Everyone's experience is different but I like a snubby with more weight LOL!
Is there a less grain cartridge for this gun?
It’s not that bad lmao. Stop being a wimp
I shoot full wadcutters in mine. No hand pain.@@petergarcia8615
Then don’t shoot Plus P. Shoot Hydro shok low recoil ammo out of it. A lot of the State Police carry those as back up guns. It doesn’t take a lot to kill a person. We are not shooting bears.
I have no idea where you got the idea that these are listed at $575. They are $700 at every LGS in my county, unless it's a 327 or 357 magnum, then it is about $800.
I think online you can find it for around $550 to $600 or so, then tax then FFL fee....
My god 700 is crazy for one of these
I got mine new on sale in California for around $500.00.
I paid 479 ten years ago
@@Crushbandicoot-wv8xb it sure is. J-frames are about 520 here, I am NOT going to pay more for a Ruger.
What's the price point on this

I love revolvers but I find that ugly
It's the Ronda Rousey of 5 shot snub nose 38 specials.
Nahhh! 😭
