    Skip to the 5:45 mark. Video was just supposed to be about transferring the buggy. My phone wasn't smart enough to edit the GoPro footage!

    How does one get into this line of work? I’ve looked at lineman school after the military but I’m unsure if this is the same thing.

    Buggies need three sets of wheels. A set out front would keep two sets on the lines and the operator would never have to climb out of the cart.

    • @hirevS2K
      @hirevS2K  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They do make buggies with a set of Hydraulic wheels for the front and the back so you don't have to get out. But on hard angles it's pretty difficult to maneuver the buggy around the insulator. I prefer the one I'm on, it's lighter and easier to transfer

      @hirevS2K do you know if you can do this without lineman school? I'd definitely do this but no clue where to look besides IBEW union and not sure if they do this either.

    • @hirevS2K
      @hirevS2K  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @HYPHYRAGE303 you don't need to go to line school. Just go to the IBEW Union hall in your area and sign the books. It helps if you know someone locally. Your not guaranteed to be on a crew doing spacer buggys. Also sign up for the Apprenticeship program ti become a lineman in your area. Might have better odds getting your foot in the door using that route

      Be careful what you wish for. I'm using these exact carts right now on energized 345 kv. That cart is about as big as the seat in your car. We're landing flying out on helicopter long lines then landing them. We don't have MAD distance to transfer our around the arm. It's HARD work. I'm a barehand journeyman and I've worked my way up to this. I come home every day extremely sore and covered in bruises. I've had close calls falling off the wire midspan. It's not all glory but somebody's gotta do it. The trade is extremely rewarding but you'll earn your money. I too am an SLTC graduate.

      I think this is much safer than applying voltage to the line .. Do not let 220v there, and how to remove the current? If the cable is insulated .. Some problems, and a person can also fry a power surge ..

      Large power lines run higher voltage than what ends up in your home. Power in transmission lines can get up to a 1000kv or more. Trying to run any electronics off of it would probably just immediately destroy them.
