    I've only been with Cadillacs for 46 years. That car, the Standard of the World. Built lovingly by people who lived by Craftsmanship a Creed, Accuracy a Law. The greatest American car...the greatest of all automobiles. In very detail beautifully exquisite.

      That dashboard was super modern for 1963!

      So true 👍 Check out my full post if you come back. Another ALL time favorite of mine was late 50s to early 60s IMPERIALS. THE MOST CAREFULLY BUILT CARS IN AMERICA according to ads of the time.

      @@rick0e295 Yes I believe so. I'm English, in these days NO other country made such beautiful luxury cars or cars with such clever features. Rolls-Royce had a super-special reputation then, but as cars they were simply not like American cars.

      Paul, thanks for responding. Ironically, my older brother (now deceased) was an extremely successful business man who in 1967 Cadillac limo. Absolutely magnificent . He thought that he could get work done while traveling between various locations of his business. He really didn't get much done and felt others believed he was putting on airs. SO he traded for a car he could drive himself, a 1968 Silver Shadow 🤔. Never quite understood the logic of that. Also bought a 1962 Cloud ll with divider,but never had a driver. He kept that one, but traded the Shadow for a Corniche. All beautiful automobiles! THEN he for some reason beyond my comprehension switched to Mercedes (but did keep the Cloud)!! I never was in same financial bracket. Love ❤ GREAT AMERICAN LAND YACHTS, but thought ROLLS-ROYCE vehicles were always magnificent. Definitely don't feel 😕 the same about Mercedes! 🙁

      @Markybug1973 That upholstery is Light Blue Chambord cloth and Light Blue leather (order code=63). The paint color (assuming it's the original) is Benton Blue Metallic (order code=22). Another color I think would've complimented (and still would compliment) that interior color is Somerset Blue Metallic (order code=26; Cadillac's dark blue color for 1963 and 1964). The Fleetwood Sixty Special is my favorite pre-1965 Cadillac model. The Fleetwood Brougham is my favorite after 1965 (the year the Brougham option debuted) starts (and that's despite the fact that I have mixed feelings about vinyl roofs).

    My dad had the exact same Cadillac Fleetwood. Color was white, but had the blue / grey painted roof and blue / grey interior, just as this car. It was a beauty then, and still is a beauty. The wood trim was beautiful, the seats comfortable and a great ride on a long trip. We drove to Georgia and Florida from Pennsylvania several times. Would love to own it today! Don't make them like that anymore.

    The first car I remember my father having in the very early '70's, but it was a solid Palimino (champagne) colored Coupe DeVille. The car was like new and rode like a dream. You could not feel it running. My parents are almost 90 now and still mention that car.

    • @thomasshort1784
      @thomasshort1784 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Joseph Consoli Would that have been a 1972, by any chance? Cadillac did have a color for '72 called Palomino Firemist Metallic (order code 93; it was a warm, sun-kissed golden tan), a $128.00 option (in 1972 dollars)

    • @josephconsoli4128
      @josephconsoli4128 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thomasshort1784 No, it was '63. I used to think of it as just "gold", but then saw a color chart and discovered Cadillac called it "Palamino". My father did have a beautiful '72 in "Willow" which was an elegant soft yellow/beige.

    Even though the fins were coming down from 1959, it still commanded attention! Chrome, wood & still the perfect balance like a 3 course meal. Really digging that interior. I loved Fleetwood's or Sedan De Villes. There were a few Coupe De Villes I liked. But, Fleeetwood's & Eldorado's. Yes! let me have a couch in that fabric! Wonderful rare find. Thanks Charles & Joe for sharing such a beauty!

    • @retroguy9494
      @retroguy9494 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Meh...I prefer the 7 course meal of the 59's if I had a choice! Those big massive fins with the bullet tail lights! I had an uncle who had one. A Sedan DeVille in black. According to my aunt, he was never too good a driver and whilst backing up he hit one of those raised concrete slabs that parking lot light poles were cemented into. Knocked the one fin right off! LMAO!

    Wow what a beauty! This is just everything. I will always take cloth over leather and the interior on this regal carriage is giving me every reason why.
    ‘63 was last year for the original v8 that debuted in ‘49…’64 had the the new 429 with the distributor in the front.

    • @jdwilson08
      @jdwilson08 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      actually no. This is a 390 but it is the same engine as the 429. It was a one year only with the new, lighter and featuring an aluminum front cover, engine as a 390.

    • @DejaView
      @DejaView 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jdwilson08 I had always thought, as per the comment from "steve s" that this engine was still the final iteration of the original 1949 Caddy OHV V8 but you can find brochures on line & if you check the 1963 brochure it IS billed in the brochure as a "new" engine. I had wondered at first if they were simply "gilding the lily" so to speak, as car manufacturers often do, to make a revamped product seem like something new & different but I believe you are likely correct that this is a 1st yr, new design engine but they held the line at 390 CID capacity until the following year. A bit surprising in light of the fact that Lincolns of the period had been 430 CID & Imperial was 413 for several years already. I was hoping he'd mention the transmission. This year would still have used the latest version of the dual coupling or "controlled" coupling 4spd Hydra Matic first introduced in 1956. In 1964 the new 3spd torque converter automatic would have been used EXCEPT, (again if you check the brochure) in series 62 which continued with the older transmission through '64.

    • @jdwilson08
      @jdwilson08 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DejaView you are correct in all you mention. Other than the 1964 series 62 cars, 1963 was the last year of the 4 speed "Jet-away" (or slim jim) Hydramatic. 63 was also the only year that featured an integrated heater/ac with blend door that was manual control. ATC came out in 1964 and was the only AC offered. People often think the 63 and 64 were the same essentially but they are very different animals

    Beautiful 😍 Cadillac. Sixty Specials have always been the ULTIMATE Cadillacs. As a kid we had a black beauty in our town. Always looked for it. A coworkers parents had a black 63 black Sixty Special. I was promised first chance when they gave it . BUT another son got the car and totaled it 🙄 within a few months. Have had 89 Fleetwood Brougham deElegance ( unfortunately let it go) 😕 and 93 Brougham ( not as true Cadillac as 89). Currently have beautiful 2007 TOWN CAR Signature Limited and won't let it get away. It's the last of true luxury sedans. Cadillac has made nothing since 96 Brougham to remotely interest me. So sad 😞 just makes your Sixty Special even more SPECIAL! 😃 😊

    As I recall, the 1964 Fleetwood 60 Special started the tradition of having a wreath and crest on both the hood and the trunk lid (with the "V" remaining on the 62 Series and DeVille models).

    Be still, my beating heart! Shades of the one that slipped away. I knew what I had in my pristine, 1965 Cadillac Sedan de Ville, intimately. I'd lovingly buffed every crease and curve of that luscious, virginal-white body, and the turquoise leather and fabric interior was to die for. As an Arizona car, there wasn't even a hint of pit rash on its acres of contoured chrome. But it was 1979 and I was straight out of college, newly married, living in the Wilshire District of LA and commuting 100 miles roundtrip to Newport Beach. Keeping that car gassed up was burning a hole in my wallet. And good luck trying to find space to park it within three blocks of our apartment. (Same with my wife's "ahoy-there" 1973 Chrysler Town and Country wagon/harpmobile, which she'd inherited from her late mom.) That caddy only had 70,000 miles on it when I bought it for $725 in the summer of 1975. I put another 30,000 or so and clocked it before reluctantly selling to my elder brother. By the time we'd bought a home in the Valley in 1983 and I was in a position to buy it back from him, it was long gone. Sigh!

    My mother had a 1968 Fleetwood with footrests in the back and always used to drive her crazy on long car trips between our home in Florida and dropping us off at summer camp in North Carolina. As a kid in those days; did not realize that not everyone's mother had a car like that. Eventually, that went away and in came the Rolls Royce and a Buick station wagon to carry the dogs.

    My first car was a 1965 Cadillac Sedan de vile. I paid $500.00 for it in 1979. I was 16. It was metallic green and had all the features as this one. (Not as cool looking, but still AMAZiNG) I hated the color and went to Earl Sheib and had it painted black for $39.95. It was awesome. My sisters hated it and refused to drive in it. 😂 It lasted about a year when one day I was picking up my friend and went into his house. We came out and it was gone. It slipped out of park and careened over cliff. 😢 I’ve missed it ever since and only have one picture of it.

    I do adore those old Caddy’s there’s nothing else like them. They really were every bit as opulent as a Rolls Royce of the day but with a big ol’ V8 to move it all. And those seats look spectacular and feel better than any leather idk why they don’t make a comeback in luxury cars, I’d bet they’d be more sustainable as well.

The only thing I'd miss on a '63 would be the 3" wheelbase stretch that returned for 1965, along with the rear footrests. Also, I suspect that '63 was the last year for the 4-speed Hydramatic, which must be an adventure in and of itself; I believe the '64s were the first with the THM along with the fabulous switch-pitch torque converter. Sadly, that disappeared for '68. Your car is in amazing shape for a 59-year-old car; I hate to imagine what a car like that would cost. Thanks for posting!

    What about dual exhaust being dropped? Was it at least optional? I have a survivor '57, duals exit thru vents in the bumper!

    My dad had a '63 Cadillac convert. The day it hit 100,000 miles he slid into another car due to ice. He had planned on restoring it, but instead it went to the boneyard

    The proportions on this car (Fleetwood) are much nicer than the Sedan DeVille when viewed from the side. It just seems more balanced to my eyes.

    I always thought the main difference in the 63 and 64 models was the horizontal centerpiece in the front grill. The 63 was metal and the 64 was painted. That's the biggest difference I know of.

      Quarter panels , tail light pods , engines and as hinted at in this video, a multitude of other changes.

    • @robertpace901
      @robertpace901 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielulz1640 now that I look at both those years, I can see more differences. Back then GM used the same body design for two years but made each year distinct enough to appear a new design. Of the 61 to 70 models, it was the 63 and 64 I had the most difficult time figuring out the differences. It wasn't till a few years ago I noticed the horizontal bar across the front end grill was painted on the 64 and chrome on the 63. The 1961 to 1972 are my favorite years, with the pillared sedans of the 65 to 70 year models, my favorite body style.

    • @danielulz1640
      @danielulz1640 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robertpace901 you are correct in your assessment. If you look closely at the difference between 65 and 66, I am not sure if there are any sheet metal changes. Rear bumper encluding tail light housings, front bumper and grille, a thin strip of sheet metal added under the front edge of the hood and headlight surrounds. I think that the front fenders were modified, but not what I would call an all new design such as with the 66 Chevy.

    • @robertpace901
      @robertpace901 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielulz1640 I always thought the 66 Chevy Impala, BelAir and Biscayne were an elaboration of the 65 models, with all 1965 GM models marking a significant change in body designs. Likewise, the 68 was an elaboration of the 67 models, following the two year body usage as noted in the previous comment. I wish car designs and new model years were that definitive now as then. My current van design was used for at least 10 years. That never happened in the era we're discussing.

    • @danielulz1640
      @danielulz1640 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robertpace901 yes,exactly. It all ended in the mid 1970's when restyling was done only to meet the new and ever changing bumper and body impact standards. Then came CAFE requirements, requiring lighter weight. That killed chromed steel bumpers and metal ornamental trim. New cars are more efficient and safer for occupants and pedestrians, but they are all basically plastic blobs.
