    I use two different methods to raise up the level of my pets.
    The *first one* is quite similar to the first one you talk about on the video: _fight slime bosses_ . Just I don't use Ivy, but the King Slime. And istead of killing him, whe he's about to die, I get away from him so he fully restores his HP (and so I don't have to use another summoning item).
    The *second method* I use is the one everybody uses to level up the Range/Melee combat and Vitality skills: _the Hive Mother AFK farm_ . It uses the same mechanic as your third method with the purple slimes, buth The Hive Mother will spawn lots of creatures more quickly, and she won't stop doing so if you don't kill her. For me, this is the best method I've found so far. I used the charged attacks of the fire axe to kill the mobs and it took me (from lvl 1 to 10) around 30 minutes or so.
    I hope this info was helpful, so no one has to use your final method.
    Great vid Dakon, keep up the good work!

      I completely forgot about the Hive Mother method! That's a great one. You'd think I'd remember that since I showcased a version of it in my hive mother beginner's guide.
      Smart with the King Slime too. He has lots of adds also that can help you raise the skill. Love it!

    I don't usually comment on anything but you've helped me learn this game a lot since I picked it up in November and I feel like I can finally help contribute back a bit here.
    From what I can tell, exp is based purely on damage, so doing more attacks doesn't seem to matter in any case though I may be wrong there. I'll come back to that, I have a thought about why we're seeing different things. While I was killing densely packed slimes I noticed a decent increase in exp while dealing more damage, though. I ended up taking a reinforced Lava Battle Axe (absolutely not the Rune Song because of its instakill effect reducing damage dealt) out to the Ghorm ring that had been passively spawning slimes in my world for a few weeks and went ham, maybe took half the ring or so to reach level 10 from fresh. It was pretty densely packed but simply standing at the core, maybe fishing or farming a few hours, should let those areas spawn.
    I'm interested in knowing what the difference in between our findings since we seem to have formed different approaches based on different observations. It looks like you've mostly fought tougher enemies from after the great wall, so I'll check those out and see if there's any difference in what I see there. Maybe there is some kind of base exp each enemy is worth upon defeat or there's an "overkill" bonus applied to any kill that does more than the required damage? I'll see what I can find though.

      I usually use bosses as my metric for things since I can't 1 shot most of them. When I was trying to see how many kills it would take to get my pets from 1-10, I killed Ivy with no buffs and got my pet to level 5. Then I grabbed a new level 1 pet, fully buffed myself and killed Ivy again. Pet only got to level 3. So I figured more damage wasn't the key factor. However I only did this like 2 or 3 times to make sure it wasn't just a fluke. I didn't get rigorous in my testing.
      So a more thorough examination is definitely warranted.

      @ghostlink2027 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DakonsMadhouse That's certainly interesting. Gives some credence to the overkill or base kill exp idea, but I agree that some kind of solid test is needed. I will be home all day on Tuesday though, so I should be able to give it some testing and see if any numbers start falling in line on my end. I'm really curious just how intricate this system is under the hood now.

      I will say, It did feel like my pet was leveling extremely fast when i was fighting a boss with my thorns build, but i figured it must be based on attack speed, so i got a less damage build and built up my attack speed, and it "SEEMED" to level up the same speed early on, but at the later levels, it did feel slower, so Pure Damage might be the way to go, but obviously attack speed helps.

    • @Casper_Belrose
      @Casper_Belrose ปีที่แล้ว

      It's gonna be a wild guess as I can't test it at the moment, but maybe both hits and damage contribute to the xp. So if you kill a small slime, you get 1 hit off and a lot of damage that overflows, making the damage give more xp than the hit, but in case of bosses they can tank the whole damage so 1 hit could in fact have more value.
      Let's say 1 hit gives 100xp, and 100 damage gives 100xp as well. In this case, if the boss has 1k hp if you attack it 10 times for 100 damage it would give 2k xp. If you were to deal 200 damage, you would only attack 5 times summing up to 1.5k xp making the stronger hits less effective. But if a small slime dies from 20 damage then no matter what you kill it in one hit so the more damage you do the more damage can overflow which also counts into xp

    • @ghostlink2027
      @ghostlink2027 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DakonsMadhouse I definitely have more testing to do, but I was able to find a formula that worked for me tonight and I was able to predict my pet's exp after fighting Glurch by just looking at the damage values I caused. It does seem to be based on damage only as far as I can tell, and any damage in excess of an enemy's health counts the same as normal damage. Damage done by pets does not count. I do not yet have the Phantom Spark on my single player character, so I cannot test the caveling ghosts' damage. Exp is gained by dividing damage caused by 20 and rounding down, with a minimum of 1 exp seemingly if your damage goes below 20 in a single hit.
      If we look at your fight against Ivy, you do damage to the boss in the order of 355, 320, 336, 348, 356, 345, 328, 370, 368, 803, 779, and on the second crit the message saying your pet reached level 2 appeared. If we divide by twenty and round down, then sum the results, the exp gauge would show 17, 33, 49, 66, 83, 100, 116, 134, 152, 192, 230. The point that you broke 200 exp lines up with when the message appeared.
      If this is really all there is to it, then you will lose some small fraction of an exp point on each hit and maximum damage per hit would be the min-max approach to minimize the number of times you will need to round down, as doing 1 damage per hit would not only be slow but unfeasible late game. As far as the one pet that had a higher level after Ivy, the only thing I can think to ask is would it be possible you had slimes or enemies to clear out prior to fighting the boss that the pet got exp for? I'd be the kind of person to completely forget to unequip the fresh pet prior to a test, so I have to ask.
      I'll have more time tomorrow to test this and some other possibilities out so if you can think of any possible factors to test just gimme a shout.

    Probably the fastest way is to get a set of "Ranged Attack Speed" set. This way you get more attacks/per second without necessarily doing effective damage and just range attack a slime boss while staying out of it's aggro range. If you wait until a tiny bit after it enrages, you can stop attacking and let it recover, if no poison damage is applied, this is pretty fast, then just resume

  • @fables_end

    The fastest way that I know of is to kill the king slime boss and put on the crown and royal gel to be king of the slimes go to igneous shoot him with ranged weapons melee wont work. Once he is low let him heal repeat.

  • @zetaking2909
    @zetaking2909 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    if you attack ig when he is bearly on the screen, he wont agro, and you can still get exp off him, equip gear for max ranged attack rate, and use the throwing daggers.
    So Head: scholars hood
    Body: Cupid Tunic
    Legs: Octerine pants
    Rings Ivys rings
    Neck: Skull neck
    off hand:: sadly no rattack speed items for this slot
    edit: Ps each attack gives 18 exp it seems on ig

      @@DakonsMadhouse yup, tho be careful if you spawn a ghost with the bow, bosses will attack those, but i have never had them target a pet. Btw the bunnys poison can slow down the bosses self healing so you might need to stop attacking if it hits that last 25% rage, after a few moments bunny will stop attacking, and the poison will fade and it will heal back to full, also , tho its slower(2.0 vrs 2.5), having a bunch of sling shots with there lower dps might not even outpace his self heal even when its got that 75% penalty ^^

    Hello,
    Are you planning on doing best ranged build for everyday use? So like not too hard/grindy to get foods as well as best pet stats, preferably for Owl as it boosts your damage unless other pets are better. Thanks and great video as always!

      I have an early game dodge build coming out this week and I do have plans for more early game build options in the future but I haven't made them yet. Early game doesn't have a lot of options yet. I'm hoping they make some more. Right now its basically...get a flame staff and iron armor.

      I dont think there's a best pet currently. The embertail is awesome for adding extra burn damage. The owlux can get your crit above 100% with the right build, the terrier's stun abilities are amazing for early game hardmode, and the fanhare's DPS is outstanding. Slimes kind of suck.

      haha. It was hilarious. As he jumped every single tile was ripped up XD. I checked the world today and the game reset me before the fight. I never used bridges around bosses so i didn't know this was a thing.

      The ingame method would be as follows: Each mob chunk is 16x16 with 0,0 being the lower of the two blocks straight out of the core entrance. Let's say you're at 38,66. Take the coordinates you're at and divide it by 16, 2.375 & 4.125. By rounding down to 2 & 4 and multiplying by 16 we get a nearby chunk corner at 32,64. This would the the lower left corner of a chunk, with 31,64 32,63 and 31,63 each being in their own separate chunks.
      The outside of game option is to use the CK Map Tool and select the 'show mob grid' option to find a corner and then compare that to the in game coordinates. It's useful to place contrasting colored flooring and refresh the map tool to make sure you have the correct location.

    • @DakonsMadhouse
      @DakonsMadhouse  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      wow I'm so glad someone is able to do the math! With the coords and tile distance now ingame on the map it makes it possible to actually math out where the cells are ingame. Thanks for this! If you leave a copy of this comment on my level 1 map tutorial video I'll totally pin it.
