Planeswalker Decks! Getting Started with Magic the Gathering

- You guys ask me all the time what product to get started with magic.
1) download the game "Magic duels" on ipad, steam, or elsewhere to learn the rules
2) get either a deckbuilders toolkit and/or some 'planeswalker' intro decks for kaladesh and start from there.
3) find a friend and play

Toolkits are really my go to recommendation because not only do you get the ability to play and start on the cheap. You also get the learning experience of building one or maybe two decks. Once you get more experienced though booster boxes are the best value followed by 'bundles'.

Only works if you're playing against another friend with another toolkit.
If you want to go to an FNM, these planeswalker intro decks are much better than a deck you made off a toolkit pool.
Once you get more experienced you should wait until the meta settles and buy singles. If you like to brew then you buy singles related to that brew.
PS: Booster boxes are great if you want to get into limited (BYO draft or sealed) though.

I just got into magic and went to my first draft this weekend, It was a blast and the next day they had kaladesh game-day. So glad I decided to get into when I did and I'm loving this set.
Back in 2010 I got a structure deck and touched them once and now you've inspired my to really learn to play, bought the innistrad gift box got some decent pulls to start out so thank you for your review of it! Also I don't have my own planeswalker yet lol

Just got into Magic recently! Started playing through magic duels and from there found your videos looking for tips on creating a deck. I've been thinking about starting my own collection as well!
I'm getting into it now. i saw you talk about it for years but it went over my head. those free sample packs infected me. played 6 hrs straight first day.
I can't even afford these games, but. Y'know, I just watch Boogie daily. Helps with the mental and stress issues I'm going through.
After MANY YEARS of thinking about playing I finally bought a couple of planeswalker packs for my daughter and I to try. Wouldn't have got them if it wasn't for this video.

I do like that the deck boxes are big enough for the cards to be sleeved! That was one of the problems my GF got with her Pokémon deck boxes. Very nice art, but too small for sleeved cards. Thanks for the vid boogie! I currently only have the money to collect for Pokemon, but I enjoy hearing you talk about Magic too :)
the way i learned and got into magic was having friends take me to drafts they taught me how the cards work and the rules of the game. also people at the cardshops i went to were really friendly and helpful. i don't play in competitions or standard but i have tons of fun drafting

love your unboxing/mtg vids ive gotten some sick drops my best was all of the gods plus foil gods i ended up getting 6 mythic's out of a single booster once and a randomly lucky double mythic foil of the same mythic. i also got 4 kioras from a booster box i had a very AWESOME intro to MTG only 3 years ago.
Wife and I picked up 2 starter planeswalker decks today. Looking forward to learning the game. I played yugioh a lot in my younger years, talking 10+ years ago. Got fairly back into it and found out most card shops don't carry singles (or any older cards, for that matter) but magic is absolutely everywhere front and center.
Just started playing Magic the Gathering some weeks ago and i have played 8 games in total.
I got some random Magic cards from a friend 7 years ago and maybe even more (I didn't know the game back then since in denmark you mostly play Yugioh or Pokemon TCG as kids).
These cards gave me and my brother to play 2 games against each other but we didn't play with a lot of mana (14 in total) so these games where far from normal games but i won both of these.
Then we bought a set of 2 decks with 2 dices, some tokens and just a bunch of getting started guides.
We have played 6 games against each other. I have won 2 of these while my brother have won 4 games.
You are the one who showed us this game boogie and i can say as a 19 y/o man from denmark... I love this game it is so fun :)

Magic Duels is definitely the way to go for not only new players but also people such as myself that haven't played in years. So many new things I had to learn & understand but I pretty much have the swing of things. Eldrazi & ally's are ducking insane lol
Just bought the Nissa deck the other day and played a bit at FNM. I enjoyed it!
Love the MtG videos! you should do more with the MtG games on Xbox and PC. i was in the stream you played them in a few weeks ago and loved it.
I just got into MTG and I've already won around 5 times against moderately experienced players, My friend helped me out with figuring out the game and I learned from there, It's a fun game and it takes a lot of reading and thinking. :)
I haven't played since I was about 17. I picked up Nissa and got right back into it. I have since cut her along with a few others and have had fun building from the Kaladesh.
Was thinking of picking up Magic. I was in my local Game Store and saw the decks and boosters you bought. Might have to go back in and say hi. I like Hearthstone and miss the old days of Yu-Gi-Oh! dearly. Yeah, screw it, I'm gonna pick up a pack or two on the way home from work and learn the rules and stuff :)

I recently got into Magic about 2 weeks before Kaladesh released and the Kaldesh prerelease was my first event. And after the event I finally convinced my dad to give it a try and we bought both planeswalker decks to get him into it. We now play at least 2 games every single night and it's a blast and we've moved away from the basic planeswalker decks to make some more complicated decks. If you want to get into Magic, get a friend or family member to play with, buy both the planeswalker decks, and have a ton of fun.

I hosted and judged a handful Pokemon Pre-releases this past weekend, and with the store credit I earned I bought myself some black aggro deck. I have no clue what I'm doing or what any of these new magic cards the staff picked for me do, but I genuinely started to get interested in it from watching your magic videos. I also bought that Nissa deck, but didn't pull nearly as well as you did from the packs :(
Boogie, man, lol. What are you doing in this video? It's like you started out trying to make a "how to" for beginners video but then ended up just doing a MTG unboxing video. It's like you just sorta said, "Screw it, download the app, I'mma bout to open some cards.".

I got two of my friends into magic today. One of them takes roughly 3 minutes per turn, but they're learning. Both bought intro decks, and one also bought a toolkit, which are the best prices.
Lol when I started I played with no plains walker for half a year then got Ob Nixilus Reignited and played him in a weird landfall deck. I usually lost of course but it was still fun
One of my friend's first ever magic decks was the Ixalan Jace deck, he pulled a non holo Huatli, Warrior Poet from one of the boosters......

Great video! The planeswalkers are good, like you say, for learning only really.
The overall decks aren't worth the cost value wise. It'll do what it's designed for, but not in a fun way. Picking one of the $10 Battle Decks from Card Kingdom is a better way to go and there's a good amount to choose from. The deckbuilder's kit is better than the intro decks I think.
I do recommend primarily checking out your local comic/game store. because wizards sends alot of store welcome packs that are free and start you off with a basic set of 60 cards to learn the game with.

I try magic on my pc and love it but in 13000 card understand different decks and building a deck very hard for me so I decide drop. I love watching your opening videos. If someday i have money or magic start sale reasonable price in my country I wanna open some packs.

Man, I tried telling you in your stream but I unpacked a foil Aether Vial worth a little over $100. Traded it into Gears Gaming because I'm not really into selling cards myself online or advertising. You were right btw, I really like Gears Gaming.
I recently got into magic just the way boggie said. I bought plainswalker Chandra deck and then a deck builders tool kit and i built a veichle based deck and been enjoying magic a lot. Just do it its fkn amazing
Oh man I made a vehicle-based deck too lol, how does yours work? I made a deck with the max number of aradara expreses (crew 4, 8/6, menace) and a load of self-assemblers (4/4) to have a bunch of creatures to drive them. XD
Well because I bought a chandra deck my base,were mountains and plains. I bought a tool kit and got two realy good cards every veichle deck needs Chief of the foundry( cost threea any mana ) other artifact creatures you control gain 1/1 and Foundry inspector ( cost three any mana ) artifact spells cost 1 any mana less. Then I traded some cards to get Depala the pilot exemplar cause the cards in my deck were mostly dwarfs and veichles and a mythic darksteel forge ( 9 any mana) all artifacts you control gain indestructable. So my deck is built around low cost dwarfs and low cost veichles to get ton of power in a few turns. Its a great early game deck but its bad so i try to rek my opponents in a few turns. Realy fun game i must say :)

Maaaannn I really need to get a darksteel forge lol, would be great for using with my 0 cost 0/1 ornithopters (non-token kind). Your deck sounds way better than mine since the best artifact synergy card I have is foundry inspector. XD
Although granted that's probably since I got 500 common and some uncommon kaladesh cards on ebay, was lucky to get inspector since he was one of the few uncommons.
I am quite proud of my little gimmick with the 2 ensoul artifact cards I have though: 1 blue and 1 colourless for "Enchanted artifact is a creature with base power and toughness 5/5 in addition to its other types." This makes my 3 mana cost 4/3 renegade freighters stronger AND drive themselves. :D
Ballrace1 Niiice what im looking for is a card Im pretty sure is called the smuglers copter or something. Its a veichle flying each time it blocks or attacks draw one card. It would be realy good for my deck since i have problems with bad hands so it would help me get cycle through the deck and get my cards a lot quicker. If i get a bad start with this deck its deadly for me because my only solid chance of winning is if I try to win in a few turns . Would love to see your deck in action.I can poste the full deck profile if it would help you ? My favourite things about kaladesh are problably dwarfs and veichles yours? Have a nice day btw :)

Ah yeah I heard that smuggler's copter was a bit OP, guess I understand why now lol.
Usually I just cram a load of blue cards into artifact decks when I need card draw since all of the artifacts are colourless anyway, probably not the most efficient way to do it but it works :P
I think that my favorite things about kaladesh are the vehicles and the new creatures like "Prakhata pillar-bug" (3 colourless 2/3 pay 1 black for lifelink) and "Dukhara Peafowl" (4 colourless 2/4 pay 1 blue for flying), etc that work with colours but don't need colours to be summoned, really specific but I like using both aforementioned cards in blue-black decks since they can work with any mana. :D
Deck profile would be cool, if you point me to where I can do it I could show you mine, although it might be a bit sickeningly bad since I've only used it a few times and it's all common/uncommon cards lol.

are there any statistics of rare pulls from these planeswalker boosters (is there a higher chance of pulling something valuable from them)? i bought both of them and had a mythic in each pair (one per deck basically) - nissas booster had dovin baan, chandras had flagship so i was wondering if i was just lucky or if it is something other people experienced as well?
