Setting a Marquise Stone for Faceted and Cabochon Gemstones

- Learn how to set a stepped bezel, marquise-shaped stone. This video is the third in a series on creating a marquise setting (video 1), a split shank ring (video 2), and setting the stone (this one!). This setting is great for both faceted and cabochon marquise stones.
I'd make practice settings with copper or brass/bronze (closer to sterling in metal hardness) before working with silver. Make 5 or 6, and give it a shot!

If you want a burnisher, follow the directions in the video. Be careful when using the burnisher, as you can scratch your stone. I wouldn't use it with a soft stone like an opal. If you are making a punch, just flatten and polish the tip.

Good news. I messaged Chimera Art Space because I saw Nancy did a Christmas event there last year and they said she is alive and well just not doing videos lately. 😊
This is exactly what I needed to see to fix my less than perfect bezzle edges. Thank you!
Not sure if I left a message when I first watched this video over a year ago. But most likely there is an old message in there from me or a comment, but I enjoyed your video very much. I re-watched this three part series because I’m going to be working with this shape of stone. And I I know that you always have videos, probably just about everything. There is in the metalsmithing world and then even more things. I just wish you would really make some more videos. Even if they are some more beginner types or making some really cool pieces of jewelry that you don’t mind people copying you. But if you read my last message. My TH-cam channel is starting. I am super excited. It will be starting out with for beginners. I want to teach them a really strong foundation the way you have for so many of us you have paved the way for a lot of us metalsmith… I really wish I could give you money, but I am so broke. It’s terrible. I absolutely love you to death and thank you Nancy for everything that you have done… you are one of the best metalsmith on TH-cam. And and I’ve been watching you for years and years and years. Big hugs 🤗, Michelle
Great video Nancy! Thanks for sharing your knowledge! 🧑🏭⚒️

@@nancyhamiltonjwelry I really appreciate it!
Very very helpful video Nancy. Thanks.
I miss you 😢 big hugs Michelle
What happened to Nancy?
@@ocnative64 she’s okay I just miss her not doing anymore videos. She’s one of the reasons why I became a professional Metalsmith and now teach on TH-cam, Michelle
Love it Nancy! Love these rings! It’s Mimi….The friend of our mutual friend in HA. I sooooo needed these videos! Thanks so much!!!! So you know, I use the hammer hand piece all the time, tho I don’t have as good of luck as you doing it at a fast speed. I have to reeeeeally go sloooooow, and try to do one pop at a time, and then move on then another. Etc. but I’m not as coordinated. Ha! Wonder if you used the pumice wheels, cuz don’t they not hurt the stones as much?

Can I ask why you hammered it rather than just pushing g it and then using a bezel rocker?
Trying to learn how to set stones so still quite confused by it all.
Thanks so much for all your wonderful videos.
Hi Nancy,
I would like reticulate silver to copper to make a bracelet. Do you have a tutorial show this?
Nancy has a great video on this from 7 years ago on YT. Her friend shows how on Copper and the pendant came out great. Hope this is helpful.
I have looked at her website and all the social media apps. Nothing from Nancy. Does anyone know if something happened to her?
👍👍👍♥️

What happened to Nancy?????
You have taught me so much. Not only about making, but also, how to be, how to improvise, how to be brave, etc. You’re one of the reasons I have dived into the deep end🤣😂😅🥹
