Last year I opted to do a Master's because I wasn't sure I will secure a graduate job after countless rejections. Moving on to today - I've almost completed my masters and have been accepted to join a graduate programme in September. Excited for the future!
I am doing my Msc in Accounting and Finance from Uni of Leicester, took the decision mid-career (after 5 years as an accoutnant + 4 years of employment as project manager in Big 4), Reasons: looking into a transition in career in finance, got a little scholarship, needed a significant break from work, 11 CIMA exemptions, travel abroad and adventure, opening new career prospects, its technically only 10 months, hopes of pay rise, semi serious about PHD so thats another window that can open up. ) Bottom line is you cant ever be 100% sure about the educational/Career path you take- sometimes you got to dive into it and see what doors open. You can earn money all your life
Interesting video!! I did a creative degree at university and though it was great for opportunities/experience. I think nowadays with online content it’s easy to branch out and learn the way yourself unless your career path requires masters etc
Great video! Would you do a video on the need to be "polished" when applying? I remembered the BBC film "How to Break into the Elite" and was wondering what's your and your colleagues views?
I'll have to watch that BBC film, as that's a great suggestion! There's certainly a need to be a good communicator and you have to play the game to get a graduate job; part of that game playing could mean coming across as "polished". What are your thoughts?!
@@AdamLuke As someone who has been told I sound posh, and been to interviews in the good old days of face-to-face, where pretty much everyone was as posh sounding and "polished" looking as me, it does seem to matter. But it does also matter what is the job and where it is. Hope the postgraduate link helped.
Just fired a candidate that had a masters in cs, after 6 months of nurturing was still ridiculously worthless I spoke to 2 other businesses and found this was not unique and that across the board university is failing students with basic understanding in software development principles. Across 3 independent businesses we all agreed a privately tutored / self taught developer would have been worth way more than any post grad, in our shared experience hiring a self styled developer then encouraging them to use the experience to gain a masters later was worth more than any academic post grad
Greetings from the U.S , i know this information might not be for everyone but if you are finding it difficult to trade / invest i advice you work with Helen Howard pratea on google she is an expert advisor
Honestly, unless you are going to college for a very specific career path, I think the diploma "market" is highly saturated. Kids are basically taught that they need to go to college, so in the last 20 years, every kid has gone to college, making a bachelors degree basically a high school diploma. It can definitely be worth it to go through a masters program, but I would think about it VERY carefully, especially if it's going to put a huge dent it your wallet! great vid! I've liked and subscribed!
@@NenadSapungin Very true, but there is a postgraduate premium and UK funding for university is more of a graduate tax than a loan. I have currently got a bachelor's in engineering and managed to get a job as an engineering three years ago and I'm loving it but recently I have thought about doing a msc course part time alonside my fulltime job, at the moment i dont need it but i feel like at some point in the future i might need it, would you say doing it part time will be a good idea ?
It all depends whether you want to continue studying. There's certainly plenty of jobs for data science grads with only a bachelors degree. Depends whether you want to continue studying or get into the world of work and start making money!
GOOD question! So good in fact, I will make a video on this topic. Places that are frequently hiring, you secure an offer fairly easily and will BOOST your CV are: - Volunteering/charity work - Retail Work - Call centres - Entry level/lower level admin roles - Internships (bit more competitive!) If you do some/all of the above, you'll have a pretty full CV and be better positioned to secure a grad job. I do have a video, that shares how I got experience before applying for graduate schemes, that'll definitely help: th-cam.com/video/uLgjAvfoUiU/w-d-xo.html
nice... you have good vibes
Thanks...I'm glad I pass the vibe check

Amazing work! Enjoy the summer before starting your graduate programme.

Totally agree, a Master's as a nice to have but not essential! Most of the skills you can pick up online or learn by doing

Is two two a second class honours lower division?
That's 📠
Is it common that a student in data science (msc) get a continue PhD degree studying?
