Tilburg is where I live. A few years ago I discovered Nightwish on TH-cam because I was looking for new music; I wanted to broaden my musical horizon. I still love the old bands like Yes, Genesis, Queensryche, Metallica, Iron Maiden, The Gathering etc. Nightwish landed on the second place of my favorite bands, after Pink Floyd.. Since then I discovered many new bands on TH-cam which I couldn’t have done by mainstream radio. Avantasia, Haken, IQ, Blinded Guardian, Sabayon, The HU, Kaipa, Kamelot, Katatonia, Scarlet Stories. Strong, what a song 😭. It hit me hard, very hard. My mother got cancer when I was eleven. She survived. I was 15 when she got a different sort of cancer and again she survived. The third time she got cancer, she did but that was two decades later.
OMG, i'm watching this together with you guys and i'm having such a great time! Crying, laughing, the whole thing 😊 I'm a Dutchie too like Floor who has a little piece of my heart (and Nightwish as well 💖). Thanks for doing this kind of videos as well and for being so wonderfully yourselves. Love to the both of you 😘

When Ruben started singing (with the lyrics in the subtitles), it started to hit me with its meaning. I was like: this women dancing with their loved ones who are no longer here, it reminds me of the "Detenidos Desaparecidos" (from here in Chile). And then the Pinochet part, it was like wow I was right :O That also happened in Argentina (with the granmas from the Plaza de Mayo), so this trend of brutal military repression and HR violations, is transversal. Only Sting can manage to make such a song with a very sad lyric but such a catchy melody.
Still... what a Great show! It has been some time when I last time listened this episode and it still Sounds fresh! They really did strike gold that year! And just like Henk has said. Good music, is good music!

Really enjoyed reliving this with you guys! The Henk Sound of Silence was his experiment with distortion which he then carried through to the Phantom duet! Floor definitely liked the Emma version of Strong as that has been the version she has been doing in her solo shows and it is very different to the After Forever version :D
I never thought about Henk singing the sound of silence in his own style... and now i kinda want to hear that too! This whole episode was an emotional rollercoaster with a laugh and a tear swapping places every 5 minutes, surprised Sistah "survived" all that hehehe And we get to see quite some emotion from Kain too, thats a double win right there ! It been a while since you've done a full episode from this show, but thats a plus if you think about it, for us who seen the episodes when they aired, this has been long enough to have lost details and have a fresh look at the episode again. Wasn't that an amazing show? To hear the other singers with tributes to Floor, they encouraged each other so well. Henks stare, vibrato, then grit, then raising an eyebrow (how's that?). The inside stories that we might miss if we just listened to the songs separately, thank you so much, for helping us discover too.
Samatha's Dutch version made my mom cry (who I sorta forced to watch the show with me last year) and she'd never heard a Nighwish song or Floor before. That is the power of Tuomas (and Samantha of course).

Oh wow i haven’t seen this episode! It was nice to watch it with you😁❤️ Nemo was HUGE in Finland when it came out, it was on the radio all the time, on all channels😅 it was very very mainstream. Nightwish still is pretty mainstream here, many of the songs from endless forms are still on the radio very often.
You definitely have some of the most thorough and indepth reactions. Not just a 3 minute response but a true investigation of the music. Great dedication and passion.

This TV show is the best ever, I am from Germany, here the show is called "sing my song" and this show is pure music therapy, I swear. 100 of tissues over the years looking at these amazing singers showing us there personal storys about there songs , just beautiful! Floor was there too as one singer in the last season, amazing this woman. The difference of the german show is that the other artist must pic a original song from the artist of the day, not just a song that has perhaps a bigger place in the singers heart. I think it is more interesting, because it is realy crazy when for example a Rapper covers some Nightwish song. Very interesting and sometimes marvelous.

I'm a little late here beacause of the time zone and your quite a long video. I've seen this a couple of times before, but it was a real joy to see this again with you, guys. I will not comment every song, but in general I think they all did very well considering the pressure that on the sofa in front of them is sitting the best singer in the world (IMHO of course). They all are professionals, so some their performances were even much better than I expected. And Wolf has a point there. Henk was out of his comfort zone, because when he started to growl, his head turned redder and redder by the minute, that I feared it's going to explode 😵😡😠. Still great and touching performance. Thank you!

This season of De Beste Zangers with Floor in it ( 2019 ) is nominated for the best show of the year here in the Netherlands , it is the biggest price one can get in television world here , in Oktober there is a big live show on national tv the three programs where the people most voted for will go to the final and then again you can vote untill a certain deadline and a bit later the winner will be announced . Beste Zangers has managed several.times to reach the final three but never won it , I hope they will do this year.!

I've recently been rewatching this with my bf :) catching more stuff that I missed before! Making comments as I watch (it's a long one!) Floor is the best selling Dutch singer (especially since joining Nightwish) and has sold more albums than all the other guests and that's a huge surprise to everyone because she's so unknown in her home country. Lol and now you have to do Nightwish's most famous song! Also episode 7 is super fun ;) Samantha's cover of a Nightwish song is so different that it took me a while to realise which song she was covering, plus a bit of nuanced meaning in the subtitles changed what would have worked better to explain that she'd translated the song lyrics into Dutch from the English Nightwish lyrics.
And don't forget to mention that everyone's hearing works differently and the perception of music and singing can be completely different. The feeling you get when you hear a certain artist sing or play can also be completely different. This also applies of course for the people who set up a reaction channel and give their comments on how they experience something, how they experience the music. It's free pointless to act on that. It would be a lot more helpful if we responded to them by telling them how we experience the music and singing. In this way you learn something from each other and you learn each other's taste in music and singers know better. So what is explained here in the video makes a lot of sense to me. But I think a lot of people are more into theirs heart react and with emotion because of a particular artist. And we also have to respect that. One thing is certain. We love eventually all of good music, played and sung by talented artists.❤️️🤘🙏😉

So young and telling that story so well. Henk is my favorite I think, but Emma is really close. Tim was great just not touching me much, that's just not the kind of song that goes straight to the heart. His version of dear Mr President however in the episode for Samantha....wow!
She did had a relationship with After Forever member Sander Gommans. When she broke up with him (this also led slowly to the end of After Forever) she got a relationship with the guitar player of Sepultura
@@WolfKain after watching all her covers you should look into young Floor's version of The Evil that Men Do wich After Forever even brought out on DVD. I can't compare her with Bruce Dickinson and I ain't gonna do it. But the After Forever cover of Iron Maiden is just awesome and for me the most Epic cover she ever did. After Forever was such an awesome band. Right on from their debute CD you already hear Floor's power, the reach of her voice and changing from one style to the other.

"Best selling singer IN The Netherlands" is a little confusing. She (Nightwish) isn't the most selling Dutch artist IN the Netherlands but she (Nightwish) is the most selling Dutch artist worldwide. I also think they have added all the Nightwish records with that before Floor's era.
@@Harolddespui You're right, it's a bit confusing, Floor is a Dutch front woman who earns a lot of money with a Finnish band. But that she is the most earning in the whole world, that does not seem to me to be true but that she earns more than any Dutch singer, I certainly take that for true. Unfortunately, there are the pop singers who are the best at it, purely because that music is played worldwide.

Hearing Floor and Emma both speak in Dutch about family tragedies and women's strength was about the most powerful intro to that song possible. And now I really want Floor writing again and her band back together. And Emma in it!
I was a bit disappointed about the fact that the song itself doesn't get the credits it deserves, because that melody, especially the chorus part, is freaking brilliant!!! They're not going to do it, but I'd love to see Tuomas giving this song his typical Nightwish treatment without messing with the chords and the melody.

Probably someone has commented this already, but, the song Samantha did, Our Decades in the Sun, is not a Floor song. It's a Nightwish song, from the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album, which is the first one released with Floor, as you know.
Again, I love the fact that you react to the WHOLE show. It gives so much more background on why the artists choose the songs and what they mean to the guest.
Henk watching these is paying rapt total attention. In "Strong" I think he is coming to get how great a songwriter Floor is... The guys are STUNNED at it.
Strong is such an intense song live, Floor did it at her gig in Amsterdam last December, her mom just had surgery or sth, so everything extra emotional, it was so amazing....probably main reasion cause it's so full of emotions and our powerhouse floor who is an empath cracked up here and there, and it just made it soooooo real! Emma did a great job, interested to see where here path is going when she starts doing more of her own things

I am happy that you guys do reactions to the entire episode, I am dutch, recently I rewatched all the episodes. My brother is a big fan from Henk Poort's version of sound of silence. And there's still so much goodness to come. I'm gonna subscribe since I wanna see when you two get to the other episodes.
You, 20 minutes into the show: "That's our last tissue!" Oh my cogney, that's going to be a meltdown of sorts. (But I have to admit Emma moistened me een as well with her performance, she so nailed that song!) Soul strip-time! ^^) I feel with you, George. My mother died from cancer when I was still sixteen. My father had died in an accident years before, so I know what you are talking about when you say that you still can cry over her. No one that ever was a fundamental part of your life is ever really being let go off. I came to understand that's due to how our memory works. It's based on associations. You just need a little spark of memory that you hold on to and think about for a moment, and more associated memories pop up, and the past becomes alive in your mind. All feelings included. You kind of wake up in a normality where a person you lost still is present, and in the moment you drop out of that momentary daydream, the loss is re-experienced. But hey, what's a tear? These moments are precious. They can remind you of who you are in the worst of turmoils and help you to maintain your own course in life. Moments that are the \m/ in you. Death-defying moments. And Floor, should you ever read this: I guess you are wrong. Your mum doesn't fake her smiles. She just chose to not be defeated by her disease. As did mine, to her very dying bed. She kept being a mum despite no longer being able to hold a cup herself any more. Had the morphines she got to make her departure bearable to her not taken her consciousness, she would have done so until her last breath. It's who she was. I think that even dying from a disease doesn't mean it defeated you. Everybody dies. It's how you live that spells whether you were defeated or not. Just show the reaper man your seven fingers. That's all that counts. Keep loving and live on. I am in such a hippie-mood right now, I want to hug the world! Never be defeated, folks. And special hugs to you, Sistah&Wolfkain! Hi guys, The reason to me, it is so difficult to make a choice between the songs is because Tim, Ruben, Emma, Rolf, Henk and Samantha all rose above themselves trying to honour Floor. This was indeed fantastic. And so were you, BTW. I loved your reaction! I personally find the 2019 series of Beste Zangers is easily the best so far of all the different years, because the chemistry between the singers is exceptional, and they pull each other up as a result above the levels they had settled into. The presenter, Jan Smit, is also a well known singer in the Netherlands in his own right, Dutch folk mostly. BTW, Floor is not someone who holds back emotions. She actually is highly sensitive, and as a result has learned (and had to learn) to try and keep her emotions under control so as not to get carried away with emotions and feelings surrounding her, of the people around her. However, I do think that that is the one reason why she is so good at channeling emotions into anything she sings, that in combination with her perfectionism and talent. Kindest regards, Wim
About you guys being surprised about the 'Rock Academy': So was I. From a germans point of view, Netherlands always appeared very close minded to me, where you literally don't hear metal or rock music. Maybe it's this stigma why they have some of the greatest bands there. And now they not only have the Rock Academy (which was mainly created as an alternative to the Conservatorium), but since a few years ago also the 'Metal Factory'! It's the very first heavy metal based music school in the world and one of the countries top MBO schools.
Haha as a Dutchie I did not know that. Thanks for the info. Main problem I think that the radiostations just don't realy play (symphonic) metal so we don't realize what we are missing.
Also for Samantha, by now Nightwish has done Decades in the Sun live and it's aaaaazing and intense, and always acoustig woth Troy...and Floor also puts it into her solo shows

All these musicians are able to share their love for music, and so linked to their emotions, and it great to see how they care for each other while still doing their thing.
personal preference will always be essentially that. Personal. think of your favorite artist or performer. be they a singer, a guitarist, a piano player, a poet, a painter, an actor. think of the top 5 reasons why they are your favorite. i promise you, those are the top 5 reasons someone cannot stand them. doesn't make you right, or them wrong. Nightwish is very personal to a lot of people. Tuomas's writing evokes every emotion on the spectrum. he's written for 3 different singers. very differently each time. his work has evolved with each singer. each singer has made their own impact on NW fans. the last thing any of them would want is for people to be nasty to each other over who they think does it "better". Tim did "Nemo" okay. as i've said before, if you're going to do a NW song for Floor, "Elan" would be a better choice. the first single from the first NW album written for, and recorded by Floor. Emma was the winner in my book. you really want to get emotional over Floor and her mom, check out Floor on her solo tour performing this for her mom. Then, go look up Floor and her classmates from music academy. they show Floor's parents at the show in Tampere in 2015. Floor's mom gets emotional watching Floor, and Floor gets emotional seeing her mom. double whammy! The Eagles themselves did a Spanish version of this on their unplugged reunion show on MTV. the guitar players Killed the solo! Henk did really well with TSOS. very much a style he was inexperienced in, and, trying to sound like the Disturbed guy (i know his name, just can't spell it) was a tough needle to thread. props for trying. Samantha is like a cross between Bonnie Tyler and Tina Turner. amazing job. Rueben can croon his ass off. really terrific.

She sings it live in her solo tour. Next month she's doing the last shows after a long break due to the virus. One of those shows will be recorded for You Tube, so you might wanna wait for that live version.

Strong, what a song 😭. It hit me hard, very hard. My mother got cancer when I was eleven. She survived. I was 15 when she got a different sort of cancer and again she survived. The third time she got cancer, she did but that was two decades later.
I've seen a few gigs in Tilburg, No Doubt, Disturbed, Damien Rice and Garbage! 🤘

When Ruben started singing (with the lyrics in the subtitles), it started to hit me with its meaning.
I was like: this women dancing with their loved ones who are no longer here, it reminds me of the "Detenidos Desaparecidos" (from here in Chile). And then the Pinochet part, it was like wow I was right :O
That also happened in Argentina (with the granmas from the Plaza de Mayo), so this trend of brutal military repression and HR violations, is transversal.
Only Sting can manage to make such a song with a very sad lyric but such a catchy melody.
Still... what a Great show!

Really enjoyed reliving this with you guys! The Henk Sound of Silence was his experiment with distortion which he then carried through to the Phantom duet! Floor definitely liked the Emma version of Strong as that has been the version she has been doing in her solo shows and it is very different to the After Forever version :D

Oh wow i haven’t seen this episode! It was nice to watch it with you😁❤️ Nemo was HUGE in Finland when it came out, it was on the radio all the time, on all channels😅 it was very very mainstream. Nightwish still is pretty mainstream here, many of the songs from endless forms are still on the radio very often.

This TV show is the best ever, I am from Germany, here the show is called "sing my song" and this show is pure music therapy, I swear. 100 of tissues over the years looking at these amazing singers showing us there personal storys about there songs , just beautiful! Floor was there too as one singer in the last season, amazing this woman. The difference of the german show is that the other artist must pic a original song from the artist of the day, not just a song that has perhaps a bigger place in the singers heart. I think it is more interesting, because it is realy crazy when for example a Rapper covers some Nightwish song. Very interesting and sometimes marvelous.

I'm a little late here beacause of the time zone and your quite a long video. I've seen this a couple of times before, but it was a real joy to see this again with you, guys. I will not comment every song, but in general I think they all did very well considering the pressure that on the sofa in front of them is sitting the best singer in the world (IMHO of course). They all are professionals, so some their performances were even much better than I expected. And Wolf has a point there. Henk was out of his comfort zone, because when he started to growl, his head turned redder and redder by the minute, that I feared it's going to explode 😵😡😠. Still great and touching performance. Thank you!

This season of De Beste Zangers with Floor in it ( 2019 ) is nominated for the best show of the year here in the Netherlands , it is the biggest price one can get in television world here , in Oktober there is a big live show on national tv the three programs where the people most voted for will go to the final and then again you can vote untill a certain deadline and a bit later the winner will be announced .
Beste Zangers has managed several.times to reach the final three but never won it , I hope they will do this year.!
I had to cry on this one, but had to laugh a couple of times as well:

Floor is the best selling Dutch singer (especially since joining Nightwish) and has sold more albums than all the other guests and that's a huge surprise to everyone because she's so unknown in her home country.
Lol and now you have to do Nightwish's most famous song! Also episode 7 is super fun ;)
Samantha's cover of a Nightwish song is so different that it took me a while to realise which song she was covering, plus a bit of nuanced meaning in the subtitles changed what would have worked better to explain that she'd translated the song lyrics into Dutch from the English Nightwish lyrics.

And don't forget to mention that everyone's hearing works differently and the perception of music and singing can be completely different.
The feeling you get when you hear a certain artist sing or play can also be completely different. This also applies of course for the people
who set up a reaction channel and give their comments on how they experience something, how they experience the music. It's free pointless
to act on that. It would be a lot more helpful if we responded to them by telling them how we experience the music and singing. In this way
you learn something from each other and you learn each other's taste in music and singers know better. So what is explained here in the video
makes a lot of sense to me. But I think a lot of people are more into theirs heart react and with emotion because of a particular artist. And we
also have to respect that. One thing is certain. We love eventually all of good music, played and sung by talented artists.❤️️🤘🙏😉

Thank you both! It was a true pleasure reliving this episode of the show with you. Each and everyone did an outstanding job that evening. For Ruben this was my favorite of him from the entire show. So young and telling that story so well. Henk is my favorite I think, but Emma is really close. Tim was great just not touching me much, that's just not the kind of song that goes straight to the heart. His version of dear Mr President however in the episode for Samantha....wow!

I can't compare her with Bruce Dickinson and I ain't gonna do it. But the After Forever cover of Iron Maiden is just awesome and for me the most Epic cover she ever did.
After Forever was such an awesome band. Right on from their debute CD you already hear Floor's power, the reach of her voice and changing from one style to the other.

I also think they have added all the Nightwish records with that before Floor's era.
@@Harolddespui You're right, it's a bit confusing, Floor is a Dutch front woman who earns a lot of money with a Finnish band. But that she is the most earning in the whole world, that does not seem to me to be true but that she earns more than any Dutch singer, I certainly take that for true. Unfortunately, there are the pop singers who are the best at it, purely because that music is played worldwide.

Hearing Floor and Emma both speak in Dutch about family tragedies and women's strength was about the most powerful intro to that song possible. And now I really want Floor writing again and her band back together.

I was a bit disappointed about the fact that the song itself doesn't get the credits it deserves, because that melody, especially the chorus part, is freaking brilliant!!!
They're not going to do it, but I'd love to see Tuomas giving this song his typical Nightwish treatment without messing with the chords and the melody.

Emma broke me then, and still leaves me having to sweep up the pieces of my heart each and every time. After watching this when the show first aired, I knew Emma was a truly powerhouse talent. And Marcel Fisser & Band are absolutely top-notch. Three cheers for Henk & the band - Henk's "Sound of Silence" TH-cam video just passed 5 million views!

Probably someone has commented this already, but, the song Samantha did, Our Decades in the Sun, is not a Floor song. It's a Nightwish song, from the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album, which is the first one released with Floor, as you know.
Again, I love the fact that you react to the WHOLE show. It gives so much more background on why the artists choose the songs and what they mean to the guest.
Henk watching these is paying rapt total attention. In "Strong" I think he is coming to get how great a songwriter Floor is... The guys are STUNNED at it.
Strong is such an intense song live, Floor did it at her gig in Amsterdam last December, her mom just had surgery or sth, so everything extra emotional, it was so amazing....probably main reasion cause it's so full of emotions and our powerhouse floor who is an empath cracked up here and there, and it just made it soooooo real!
Emma did a great job, interested to see where here path is going when she starts doing more of her own things

The original will always have a special place. Disturbed reimagined it and in my opinion Henk Poort perfected that reimagined version.

Oh my cogney, that's going to be a meltdown of sorts. (But I have to admit Emma moistened me een as well with her performance, she so nailed that song!)
Soul strip-time! ^^) I feel with you, George. My mother died from cancer when I was still sixteen. My father had died in an accident years before, so I know what you are talking about when you say that you still can cry over her. No one that ever was a fundamental part of your life is ever really being let go off.
I came to understand that's due to how our memory works. It's based on associations. You just need a little spark of memory that you hold on to and think about for a moment, and more associated memories pop up, and the past becomes alive in your mind. All feelings included. You kind of wake up in a normality where a person you lost still is present, and in the moment you drop out of that momentary daydream, the loss is re-experienced. But hey, what's a tear? These moments are precious. They can remind you of who you are in the worst of turmoils and help you to maintain your own course in life. Moments that are the \m/ in you. Death-defying moments.
And Floor, should you ever read this: I guess you are wrong. Your mum doesn't fake her smiles. She just chose to not be defeated by her disease. As did mine, to her very dying bed. She kept being a mum despite no longer being able to hold a cup herself any more. Had the morphines she got to make her departure bearable to her not taken her consciousness, she would have done so until her last breath. It's who she was.
I think that even dying from a disease doesn't mean it defeated you. Everybody dies. It's how you live that spells whether you were defeated or not. Just show the reaper man your seven fingers. That's all that counts. Keep loving and live on.
I am in such a hippie-mood right now, I want to hug the world!

The reason to me, it is so difficult to make a choice between the songs is because Tim, Ruben, Emma, Rolf, Henk and Samantha all rose above themselves trying to honour Floor. This was indeed fantastic.
And so were you, BTW. I loved your reaction!
I personally find the 2019 series of Beste Zangers is easily the best so far of all the different years, because the chemistry between the singers is exceptional, and they pull each other up as a result above the levels they had settled into. The presenter, Jan Smit, is also a well known singer in the Netherlands in his own right, Dutch folk mostly.
BTW, Floor is not someone who holds back emotions. She actually is highly sensitive, and as a result has learned (and had to learn) to try and keep her emotions under control so as not to get carried away with emotions and feelings surrounding her, of the people around her. However, I do think that that is the one reason why she is so good at channeling emotions into anything she sings, that in combination with her perfectionism and talent.

About you guys being surprised about the 'Rock Academy': So was I. From a germans point of view, Netherlands always appeared very close minded to me, where you literally don't hear metal or rock music. Maybe it's this stigma why they have some of the greatest bands there. And now they not only have the Rock Academy (which was mainly created as an alternative to the Conservatorium), but since a few years ago also the 'Metal Factory'!
It's the very first heavy metal based music school in the world and one of the countries top MBO schools.

Personal. think of your favorite artist or performer. be they a singer, a guitarist, a piano player, a poet, a painter, an actor. think of the top 5 reasons why they are your favorite. i promise you, those are the top 5 reasons someone cannot stand them. doesn't make you right, or them wrong. Nightwish is very personal to a lot of people. Tuomas's writing evokes every emotion on the spectrum. he's written for 3 different singers. very differently each time. his work has evolved with each singer. each singer has made their own impact on NW fans. the last thing any of them would want is for people to be nasty to each other over who they think does it "better".
Tim did "Nemo" okay. as i've said before, if you're going to do a NW song for Floor, "Elan" would be a better choice. the first single from the first NW album written for, and recorded by Floor.
Emma was the winner in my book. you really want to get emotional over Floor and her mom, check out Floor on her solo tour performing this for her mom. Then, go look up Floor and her classmates from music academy. they show Floor's parents at the show in Tampere in 2015. Floor's mom gets emotional watching Floor, and Floor gets emotional seeing her mom. double whammy!
The Eagles themselves did a Spanish version of this on their unplugged reunion show on MTV. the guitar players Killed the solo!
Henk did really well with TSOS. very much a style he was inexperienced in, and, trying to sound like the Disturbed guy (i know his name, just can't spell it) was a tough needle to thread. props for trying.
Samantha is like a cross between Bonnie Tyler and Tina Turner. amazing job.
Rueben can croon his ass off. really terrific.
Henk has so much resonance to his voice... it's just amazing.
Of course I am (we are) proud you did this reaction. Many thanks. Btw. season 2020 is now on tv and sorry to say, until now (for me) it's not what I expected after seeing season 2019.
But, that's my opinion and a lot of people would agree with me that it''s hard to beat season 2019.

Very emotional song and they decided not to play it live.
She sings it live in her solo tour. Next month she's doing the last shows after a long break due to the virus. One of those shows will be recorded for You Tube, so you might wanna wait for that live version.
I love the whole reaction video from you both! This was one of the best episodes from Beste Zangers. Also with the duets from that season! Looking forward to august for the new season on tv!

Great reaction video. I'm glad that this tv series brings you so much joy to watch. As for the negative comments, please, don't let those get to you too much. When you read those, also keep in the back of your head that complaining is almost a national past time for a lot of people in the Netherlands, so don't feel like you need to defend yourself against criticism. I totally agree with you, WolfKain, when it comes to Sound of silnce by Henk. I think it would be so much better in his style, but the respect he got for singing in a way I believe he never sang before just balances that
