I have the exact same one in my E30 and I'm willing to restore it. This video is a GEM. Thanks mate.
Glad it helped cheers mate!
Every single retro classic BMW fan would love you to restore the pocket light switch in the glove box
I'll probably get to it one day :D
Only you would go the extra mile to zinc plate ONE nut. Your cleaning before painting was just overkill hahaha Great Job!!!
haha thanks Tiago!
I'm sure it just wasn't for ONE nut. He probably has hundreds to do.
Your attention to detail on each piece and part you work on shows just how dedicated you are and meticulous to get every aspect of what ever you're working on to be just perfect. Rather than just toss things out and buy new stuff you bring so much back to life, that's impressive! Always look forward to seeing your videos. Can't wait til you return to the UK, set up shop and start doing restorations on non car related things for your other channel! Cheers Mate keep up the great work!
Big thanks Bartman! Appreciate it!
Mine looks nearly identical to yours. This will be a winter project. Thanks for the video.
Cheers Keith!
@@RestoreIt I may have an extra 375 mm steering wheel. I’ll need to measure it when I get home to confirm.
I thought you were gonna replace the leather. And sew it with blue and red
Which I've seen in modern BMWs
That is something I want to do in the future for sure... It would look amazing.
A simple but visually important part of the restoration
Indeed K M, I agree!
Love your videos man. Just a guy in his shed getting it done. No big budget/fancy tools.
Turned out very well! Great work and thanks for sharing with the community!
Thanks dude!
Talented mechanic! Looks really good at the end 👍🏻
Thanks LooM!
U brought life back to a forgotten era i wish BMW remake the old design of her cars when beauty was in simplicity
Thanks!
I’ve been wanting to buy the Carly adapter for a while now. I’ve just used your code and got it at a massive discount. Thank you!
Was waiting for the video, impatiently, can't wait to see how you are going to restore it, surely is going to be better then new . Thanks Bro.
Thanks dude!
Thank you for detail tutorial! I'm definitely have to do it with my wheel
Thanks!
That’s an insane transformation, I wish I would have known this was possible when I owned my e30
Thansk Downtime :D
So satisfying watching the old and worn out, look into something that is show room finished.
Thanks!
At 14:21 I was fooled by thinking that was the result and I thought "mmh ok I was expecting a little better" than the real restoration appeared lol
Haha thankfully not :D
I know the video is going to be great!
Enjoy thanks Fafican!
Crazy how much it came to life after first coat. Good job
Cheers!
Wow that turned out much better that I expected it to. 👍🏻
Thank you Punkloaker!
This steering wheel restoration really “turned” out well!
Haha thank you :D
Always looking forward to your awesome videos. Can't wait for the next one . Greetings and God Bless from South Africa.
Thanks!
Pleasure
Awesome! Well done!
I have the 370mm version in my M3 and its a lovely wheel.
For an even better result you can use leather filler and sand the rough grain back completelt smooth. Then spray the dye on with a mini hvlp gun, then satin clear leather coat ontop. It comes out perfect.
Cheers Sat!
Never got the notification! Awesome vid as always 👍😁
Yes... i've already been onto yt about this... seems to be a common thing now. Cheers though!
Amazing result
Thanks Denis!
Excellent restoration
Thanks as aslways man!
Rewarding task.

Great Job Love it ❤️👍❤️
Thank you Pascal!
What a perfectionist
Thanks!
...GOOD ONE, NICE RESTO, STAY SAFE..
Thank you Bob!
Perfect as always
The 370 mm version is rare to find
Thanks dude! And 370 is what I meant yes. I really want one!
Steering wheels take a lot of wear so this is a great job. Looks great.
Thanks!
awesome video man 💯
Glad you enjoyed it cheer CJ!
It would be interessting to see how your restored cars look in some years? To see how good they methods are :D
For example this steering wheel :D
Lover your channel :D
Nice job broth
Thanks!
Nice job.
Thanks Mehmet!
Hell yeah! Great video!
Thanks dude!
@@RestoreIt, thank YOU, sir! I've been having a go at restoring my '87 convertible... You can't imagine how instrumental you've been to my project with methods, inspiration, and motivation. If you're ever stateside, I owe you dinner!
looks good. i would have just sent it away to get the leather redone
Cheers Juan!
Machste wirklich gute Videos, Grüße aus Deutschland mein Bester ❤️
Thanks!
Im slowly restoring an e32 do you have any tips for filming, everything i will do will be a complete first time for me :D
Have lots of patience! :D and good luck
Thank you very much for coupon. Long time wanted to buy carly, now with good discount not so expensive
Cheers Roman!
im just wondering. do you have like a rough estimate when the whole car would be finished ? im really looking forward to it
I honestly have no idea Beemz sorry! Asap though.
Love it!
Thanks!
Excellent!
Glad you liked it!
The results look fantastic! How much do you have left of all the products after restoring one steering wheel?
That M series steering wheel looks aesome,👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍awesome, in a future change the M series Packard so it can look like new.
Awsome job,I use all the products from Colourlock for leather they are superb. Give us more videos pls 🤣🤣
Thanks Dino! I did like the process :D There's going to be lots more to come very soon when I get back to the UK :D
Unbelievable job! I’ve watched this at least twice now. I was wondering what grit sandpaper did you use?
Nylon Pry tools (aka black sticks) would be very handy for you. I use them on my e36 all the time for small trim parts.
You always maintain such a high quality of work. I'm always impressed with every video
Big thanks Tyler!
Me: No way he can restore this
Restore It: Hold my beer
Looks amazing, was worried those dyes can sometimes be blotchy.
Thanks Rob! Yeah i think this german one is particularly good :)

Glad you think so cheers!
@@KH-mn3si don't mess around.
What I have meant by perfect video is I've searched for M-Technik 1 steering wheel for over a year, I have bought it recently in the similar condition as in the video. I've bought and installed the new springs for horn, new ///M stripes and this is the perfect video to follow to finish the restoration.
@@RestoreIt thanks for all those E30 videos. Once you try E30 you can't go back, speaking from personal experience.
Perfect restoration. Well done man. Cheers 🍻
Cheers as always Sony!
Wow 🤩
Thanks!
How does it work if you'd want to dye a steering wheel which has perforated leather? Love the results!
You've taken 100,000km off that wheel.... great job!
Haha i think so.. cheers Daedalus!
Clearing fault codes does not save money, cause clearing a fault code doesn't solve the problem.
Btw, love the job you did on the steering wheel.
Thanks Marco!
Hello! What is the substance you use to make leather shine. After scratching by sandpaper. Some kind of vinyl?
Great bro 👋👍👏👐👌
Thanks man!
@@RestoreIt thanks bos 👌
Ahhhh thanks to your video I realise I've been using that leather restoration kit completely wrong lol. I always thought if the original "skin"(the dye) came off, that was just the leather ruined.... And I just applied a thin coat of dye over that to "mask" the imperfection... Didn't realise you're supposed to do a few thick coats and then seal it lol.
It's not a perfect job but its a lot better than what it was :D
Great job! Question: what music did you use at the end, like the sound
Thanks GR, its called The beaten path on the YT music library
Great work, you should put a stainless steel worktop ontop of the wood! It will make the video a bit cleaner.
I'll be doing this in the new workshop for sure thanks man!
the end result looks stupendous, but am wondering about that smooth leather feel after all that sanding, does the dye compensate for it?
i've seen other youtubers use "Colourlock" solution, the trick there was with the filler which you did not use here.
Great job All in all.
Thanks! It does feel smoother than a new one would thats for sure.
I liked the first one I looked at
Thank you Senan!
I find using a brush is better for applying leather/vinyl dye. It gets into the grain better.
Cheers I'll give this a go one day
This episode was wheelie interesting.
Glad you liked it paul! haha
Bei Gott bist Vorbild
First video I clicked this morning! Steering wheel looks great. Nice job!
Thanks Michael!!
Did you have a mini panic attack once you put the tri color piece back on or did you make sure it was the right direction before because I would have done it backwards
Haha.. I literally triple checked it was the correct way
I was worried that paste was made from real ground up elephants. Thank you for clearing that up. Whew! 👍
Haha, so was I Jimmy!
Its pretty cool what you can do now with leather repairs
Great little kit!
@@RestoreIt this is good cause i need to do some of this myself
Great video as always! What is your dream car for a restoration project?
Thanks! I think at the moment it would be 911 turbo, one of the first ones
Like the videos all the way from seattle w,a

In the beginning you talk about a leather filler. May you please indicate which one us it?
Very surprised you didn't just recover it!
I wanted to try this first but will be trying that in the future :)
@@RestoreIt FYI I worked a lot with colour lock leather restoration, and it is kind of useless for really bad leather. The work you did on the steering wheel will hold up as it is only abused by hands. If you try and repair a seat by filling in cracks and recolloring- don't waste your time. The color seals the leather and makes you sweat and then the fibers of your clothing stick to the color. Filling cracks never lasts.
What grit did you used to sand the leather?
I'm not sure, it came with the kit. A fine grade I think is best
Really helpful video! Just restored my own, altough the two honk buttons L and R doesn't click, they're just really squeaky and annoying, anyone knows how to fix this? I've tried so many things, but none of it worked.. :/ Thx in advance :)
Ive restored an identical mtech steering wheel for my 325is. Ideally you should just reupholster the leather as it is a wear item like bushings and bearings. Black automotive finish hide with thick nylon leather thread.
I'ld have replaced the leather on the steering wheel. theres some amazing vids on how to instead of dying it.
I'll be doing that for sure in the near future :D
How’s it
If you do find the smaller wheel, could you give me a shout as to what you will be doing with this wheel, would love to put it on my project car🙏🏻
Sure thing :)
Where can I buy the M sticker? I've been looking for it decades!
have a BMW size 525, the engine is unstable, its sound is going up and down at the same time, I replaced the AC, the Fitbeam, and the fuel filter
More of this project
All to come :)

Thank?

Yo uso gasolina y diesel. Es lo mas fuerte barato y disponible donde sea.
@@RestoreIt gracias
Pd: me encantan tus restauraciones, vaya nivel de detalles
That's how steering wheel should be. No buttons or any other bs
I agree!
🏁🏁🏁🏁
Squad!
At 4:39, you wiped all the dry grime agitated from the previous step into the fine grain! Making all your other cleaning steps less effective. You should have used a sponge and some warm soapy water to keep the areas wet and rinse that dirt off.
I thought that too... but don't worry... I cleaned that thing for hours and showed only a very small amount of it.
Mine has small cracks in the rubber three spokes and in the middle around the logo
Because of sun
But how can I restore it?
👍
Thanks!
This is a hello from bob ross this is where i post my vids and hopefully ill get the e36 i said i wanted
Hey bob! Cheers dude, good to know :D
