Just did this on my 1996 DC2 Momo steering wheel and honestly I’m shocked with how well it’s turned out, going through the different stages you could see the transformation. Cost £25 in the U.K. off eBay and it’s worth every penny of that!!
Your comment made me buy the kit and I just received it I recently bought a dc5 type r momo steering wheel and I’m confident this will restore the wheel
Wow! how great to have a product that works!! Just did the steering wheel on my 2013 Mazda CX5 with 160,000 miles on it. Follow the instructions. Use the hair dryer to aid in speeding up. Do not wipe on the dye: that just smears it on. Dabbing worked perfectly. Thanks for great directions both printed and on the video!
Just finished my second wheel. On my Range Rover this time. It’s looks nice but it’s rough. It’s smooth after the binder (sanded and cleaned after binder). Very light coats of the color and it looks nice as it builds but then it is just rough feeling. Edit: looks like wet sanding very lightly on the rough spots with the 1200 grit paper works well. Very lightly and wetting the paper first.
Just did my wheel on a 2011 Mercedes E550. It went fairly smooth but I think you need to make sure the binder is really dry between coats and especially before the 1200 grit sanding. Use the hairdryer and give it about 20 minutes. The video doesn’t really tell us times so it seems like it’s all a fast process. I initially cleaned with 50/50 vinegar water and it did well. Everything else went smooth but I would give adequate time for the binder to dry and also wear gloves before using the color to save some hand-scrubbing. Definitely use a towel around the wheel so nothing accidentally gets on anything else. I also would use blue tape on the steering wheel trim to avoid having to clean the binder and colorant off. So far it looks pretty good. Not perfect bc of user error. But much much better than it was. Next up is the wheel on my Range Rover. I’ll do that tomorrow.
I have just finished the leather wheel of my daughter's '02 Mini one. Looks like new again. Easy enough to do for any hobyist, just follow the steps in this video. Worth every penny. Next up, the wheel of my own Audi S6. There is enough product in the kit for use for more than one steeringwheel.
I've just done this on my M5 and it worked really well. One thing I was concerned about was the coloured stitching on the wheel but it didn't prove to be a problem. I used detailing APC to clean the wheel making sure the stitching was especially clean. The leather in between the stitching was fine so I was just careful not to get the dye on that. It's a good match for the original colour (black is usually fairly easy to match) and it's not obvious which bits haven't been recoloured (which was just the bit where the stitching was). I had been going to mask off the stitching but I decided not to because I thought that might leave a more obvious line. I cut one of the sponge pads into quarters to enable me to be a bit more accurate with the application of the dye and it worked very well. My wheel was a bit discoloured but was generally in good condition. I used about a quarter of the degreaser and alcohol cleaner but probably only about 1/5 of the sealeant and dye. I might dig out a paintbrush and touch up a few tiny scratches there are in the leather elsewhere. All things considered, I think this was very good value.
I did found out about this product a week back and dame I had some bad condition wheel by using car daily and just simple use of this product made my steering wheel look so good and again no worries how it looks, now the only part is to see how long this dye last and I than have to use some repairs,so far I recommend this.
That's where I went wrong. I just applied a self sealing leather colourant straight on without prepping surface. It pretty much came straight off onto my hands even after drying overnight. As they say its all in the prep work
Just ordered this for my 2012 Audi A3. Forgot about the cross stitching so will have to be careful to avoid that! Really hope the results are as good as the video

Could you see where you used the sandpaper a little bit more on some spots. Because i want my steering wheel to look matte and with tiny tiny dots and creases. like real leather. Like they show the steering wheel in the end. because i dont want to get catfished haha.
Hi, it can sometimes feel a little rough depending on how much binder was applied. It will soften with use or if it is very stiff, you can redo the process.
Hi, manipulating the leather with your fingertips should restore the grain to the leather. We also have a bottle of Grain Repair, which you dab on the wheel with a cocktail stick to recreate the peaks and valleys of the grain before applying the paint.
Are you able to do the same on the plastic part of the wheel. I have a bit thats worn out by the m badge and wanted to know if it was possible to bring that out as well
Hi, you can use the colour provided in the kit on the plastic. However, we don't recommend using the other products on hard plastics as these are designed to be used on leather.

Hi, you can use our repair products alongside the Steering Wheel Repair kit. We recommend using Alcohol Cleaner and Liquid Leather Degreaser when repairing a steering wheel due to the oils transferred from skin contact. These aren't included in the Complete Leather Repair Kit. I hope this helps.

If you do need to apply any more paint I would recommend running it through a coffee filter/muslin cloth first, just to avoid any further issue.
Hi! I would like to to use this on my audi S5 steering wheel, but it has light grey stitching. Is it possible? I guess i will not use the black paint on the stitching?

Hi! Was wondering why use sponge instead of paint brush to apply the paint? What are the differences both when applying the paint and in the final result? Thank you.
Hi, a sponge allows you to get into the grain of the leather and prevents any streaks or brush strokes. It will give the best results in comparison to using a brush. I hope this helps.
Two questions about this kit: 1. Can it be used on heated steering wheels? 2. Can I use a normal automotive leather cleaner afterwards, like AutoGlym Leather Cleaner?
I just tried it today but unfortunately it didn't work... I followed this video and it all went well until I applied the leather cleaner. I've applied a thin layer and because it's alcohol it evaporated very quickly so I saw it drying...To my surprise the steering wheel felt very sticky so I used a hairdryer to be sure it was dry. After 5 mins it still felt sticky so I thought that's how it should be. The next step was applying the leather binder and it made things even worse... Still convinced it was supposed to be like that I started sanding the steering wheel about 10-15mins later. Now My steering wheel is full of sanding dust which sticks in the leather binder. I've put my steering wheel aside to let it fully dry so I can sand it down again with the 1200 grid and hopefully apply the color afterwards...
"long lasting" - interestingly, if you start rubbing it as a test to see how it will hold up.. You'll see the paint coming off quickly. The problem is that the people that tried these and the company that sells this never states it afterwards that it won't last. Color is one thing. The other thing is when you repair cracks. It really works for a few months because that filler keeps shrinking for some reason also/or as you use your seat the seat doesn't know that the crack is filled up. So it will keep stressing the same exact crack. The result is again, after a few months your crack is there just as before the repair. These are temporary fixes! It turns out it would have been cheaper to change the leather as a solution instead of doing "repairs" 2 or 3 times a year. Just a tip.

Hi, please contact us at enquiries@furnitureclinic.co.uk. We can then take a look at this and help to advise the next step for you.
Hey How did you get this sorted? Im in the same position. Finish is patchy too. All was nice and smooth till the paint was applied 😢
@@nadim9320 hey bud, I just did it a 2nd time to be honest to fill in patchy areas. After the 2md run I left it the entire weekend to dry and cure. Felt a bit sticky on hands for a few days of driving but that disappeared and now it's nice and smooth and colour hasn't faded 1 year on. I also used the Mrs hair dryer to dry it faster when applying.
Hi @FutureClinic my wheel has heavy build up of grease on it, tried to clean it today and never got near it. Is the procedure sure to remove the build up on my 18 year old steering wheel?
Regards Roy
Hi, yes, this kit includes our Liquid Leather Degreaser which is great at removing grease build up.
Where is finish coat?
Hi, the product used to restore the colour is our Leather Repair Paint. This is an all-in-one product that doesn't require a sealant.
Hi, I have forgotten to use the Leather binder and I applied the dye straight after cleaning the steering wheel. Can I apply the Leather binder on top as a protective layer, or shall I not bother?
Hi, the Leather Binder is designed to be applied before the colour. If the colour has already been applied, there won't be any benefit to applying the binder over this.
My m sport steering wheel on my bmw f10 LCI started to peel. Will this kit help to repair the peeled section?
It will, I just had this done by BMW and it looks brand new.
@@MindCalmingSounds how much did they charge u and are u sure It isn't just a new steering wheel
@@Jay-um8mn They didn’t charge me anything. Apparently they have a guy who shows up once a week and repairs steering wheels on their pre owned vehicles and any vehicles under warranty.
...ok, seals, but something to protect from future damage...
Hi, to clean and protect your leather steering wheel going forward we recommend our Leather Care Kit, www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/leather-care-kit
👍🏻
Hi, I’m having real trouble applying the leather colour/seal. As I apply it, it starts to gather into small clumps… any tips anyone ?
Hi, I am sorry to hear you having trouble with the application. Please contact us directly at enquiries@furnitureclinic.co.uk
Idk the leather lost its texture its too smooth
You did notice the bit that said "light sanding" didn't you?
Does this process work with perforated leather steering wheels?
Hi Rob, yes. Please simply ensure that any residue of Binder/filler inside the perforation is removed using a cocktail stick.
