GLASGOW'S DISUSED RAILWAYS - Possil to Stobcross 1981, by Douglas Thomson

  • A very rare 1080p high definition slide show of the entire route of this historical disused track bed between the above locations, all of which have since almost entirely disappeared.
Includes every former station, using my own fully restored colour views from 1981. Where possible, anonymous older black & white views of the stations while still in operation have also been included for added nostalgic atmosphere and enjoyment.

Thank you once again. What a waste of a railway system. BR as was have a lot to answer for. Just imagine the track nowadays with new trains.

Wow! I never thought there would be any hope of any more photographs of this section of the L&D railway. I took some 35mm colour slides of this section of the track formation in 1969. To see this now in HD 1080p is just wonderful ! I am so pleased that Douglas took the time to photograph it so thoroughly and so well, 13 years on, before the time ravages and changes messed it up.

Amazing. Those negatives have been well looked after. Look like they were taken yesterday.

Stockcross was reopened as Finnieston in November 1979. It was renamed as Exhibition Centre when the SEC opened in 1986.

Personally, I’ve always known Stobscross as Finnieston. When going to ModelRail (Scotland) at the SECC, have always asked for a Return to Finnieston at Queen Street Station (Glasgow).

really glad I came across this series, retraced a lot of my own jaunts. did DT work on the railroads? Marvellous to see a Glasgow long gone. Often wondered if BR would've paid to have the likes of the Ruchill g/course and all the rest of the infill done? Anyone?

excellent video 👍so sad to see how many stations have closed just in Glasgow alone shame that stobcross station has reopened as a exhibition centre and not the rest I hate to see derelict stations that could be reopened I am discussed that the railway system was aloud to end up like this they should spend money on reopening these lines again it looks a right mess now as it is and a place for fly tippers 😡

Not Beeching. He was the fall guy. Commissioned by Ernest Marples (Conservative Transport Secretary), and signed off by Dame Barbara Castle (LABOUR Transport Secretary), after The Tories lost the election in October 1964.
