I bought this with low expectations, as something light, fun and interesting to play with my spouse. We are enjoying it more than I expected, and I think she likes it too.
I sat there wondering for the first 10 minutes, why don’t I give a darn about this game? Then I realized, you never told me what world I am in, who I am as a character, or why I am doing anything I am doing in the game. Also missing from the introduction and game explanation was whether the game is competitive or cooperative.
You prolly dont care but if you're bored like me atm you can stream all of the latest series on instaflixxer. I've been streaming with my gf during the lockdown :)
I tend to agree with the story being fairly jarring in certain spots. It did seem like this is intended for children with the life lessons it deals out during the game. I did find myself enjoying the card game aspect of it, as the better I planned and set up, the better chances I had to do well in a given mission. Setting up your characters relative to the mission specifics and set-up required a good amount of strategy. We only played with two players so we had to be smart with our character choices, as we would have less abilities to use in the game overall than 3 players or even 4 players. I actually wonder if that might be a tipping point in the game play, just how many people you have to cover the map and ability access. My girlfriend and I rate this VERY HIGHLY and consider it more of a cross between light board game and Unlock series.
We like this game so far in my house after completing the first three missions, but I agree with the suggestion that it really is a family weight game. The parts that we most enjoy are the code breaking and out of game elements, which especially tickle my eight year old son. It’s also nice that the rules of the game within the game evolve over the course of the campaign, which helps improve the overall experience. Overall, I am glad we are playing this and will certainly pass it to another family when we are done with it.
Great family game. My kids love the game! Since for me when I play I look for not just my personal fun playing a game, but how it affects the happiness of my play group. So playing with my parents, older family; I like a certain type of game. With my kids, it is another type of game. Finally my gamer group is another type. Sometimes games go across groups. Yet, in the end I get joy from seeing others having joy. Tom is right that his kids will like it, and so will he like watching the kids puzzle this out. Good review!
Interesting review...we're 3 missions in...so far really like it. Also, I'm the only hardcore gamer in the family. I have found it really delightful to play with the family. I'm excited to see the next puzzle. I had no problem sliding the mission card into the stand, but the little plastic pieces for the standees were really hard to put the cardboard character into.

@@VaultBoy13 no, they're not. I am hyperbolic in saying everything is, fair enough. But it doesn't sound like the reviewers felt this game gained much from being a campaign when it could be a series of one-offs or similar. I've just gotten to the point that seeing a game is a campaign makes me less interested than more. That's not to say people who love campaigns can't enjoy them, nor that I don't want any campaigns. But I just would find more interest in some of these if they were one-off scenarios or things like that instead.
I finally have a situation where I ay with the same two people every week, and these sorts of games have become more fun. For a few weeks you can just sit down and play without having to teach anything, and there is a fun payoff when you finish.
I really thought the scores would be lower based on their discussion. I really like the idea of a game with a fun adventure where you are finding clues or puzzle pieces with an aim to solve a puzzle at some point. Shame this doesn't fit the bill.
