    So basically if I am doing this with foam (and not following the video) -- Most important thing for a Non-functional helmet; you gotta do all the steps in foam format for functional but...
    1. Get Template
    2. Focus on Helmet Bowl part -- glue them together
    3. Get the back segment added to the Bowl helmet thingy.
    4. Add the Crown to the helmet; add the details he shown you to video.
    5. Make the Bevor.
    6. Now if you wanted to make Functional; you got to go back to the video; rivots, pivots, and pressing buttons thingies;
    I am not going to add the Visor/Face piece onto the helmet. I have a different design I want to put instead. I am using this as a base. :)

    You should definitely try your hand at making a whole template suit with this style. This reminds me of the Italian styles. The helmet looks great!

    I'd prefer if the visor was dished the opposite way, as in right now it's dished out, but more historical ones are dished in.

    Can you make some historical (correct) armour?

    • @ParaTrooper996
      @ParaTrooper996 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well its fairly histrocial the only thing is he made (mostly) convex armor instead of concave armor which you normaly see in historical german gothic. other than that he did a good job in my opinion.

    • @goinham9469
      @goinham9469 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    • @ParaTrooper996
      @ParaTrooper996 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He makes video's and the templates that already takes allot of work by itself,
      Then if he's going to make the projects with thicker steel (historicaly 1,5-2mm aka 15/16 guage) that takes significally longer (although people might not realise that)

    • @goinham9469

    It’s more sallet inspired or a fantasy sallet than it is an actual gothic sallet, but it’s still very cool. I’m a big fan of the more historical look & might adjust what you’ve shown accordingly when I actually get around to trying it.

    Shouldn't a sallet have a hyperbollic visor, so that blades are discouraged from going into the eye slit, instead of encouraged by this parabolic geometry? I think all of the sallets I saw until now had that feature. Or am I wrong?

    • @manowartank8784
      @manowartank8784 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should... but it would be much harder to make without forge. Edge rolled outwards could be substitute, just a bit easier to make, but uglier than real sallet.

    • @lukasjacobs2358
      @lukasjacobs2358 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jaroslav Jůza Yeah, the visor probably has a lot of stress in the steel if formed cold and the metal really wouldn't want to move that way. I'm not sure if you'd need a forge, but at least a good burner is probably required

    • @opiwaran354
      @opiwaran354 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you mean convex not parabolic. But you're right, it should have that. But considering that this is (because of the material thickness) more of a costume piece anyways, I don't think it's that bad

    • @manowartank8784
      @manowartank8784 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It looks amazingly good, for the effort he made it with. Just some cutting, rolling, hammering and the helmet look very real. But the aggresive look of Sallet is kind of lost and that is what makes it so cool.

    • @lukasjacobs2358
      @lukasjacobs2358 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jaroslav Jůza It does look very good for the effort yes. But I think it would be possible to do even better with a little more effort. The visor is one point where I think you could really add a lot. Another point where it would probably be possible to improve a lot with very reasonable effort is the "tail" in the neck. It would be really nice to make it longer or even add some more subtle curvature

    Hey could you tell me what tools exactly shall I need to polish bumby metal sheet by hand? What kind of hammer exactly? What tool should I have to put under the sheet (so it's between the hammer and the "x"). And something about the technique?

    • @DavidGuyton
      @DavidGuyton  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The process is called planishing, and is done with a very flat hammer. I use a Martin Sprocket autobody hammer. What is used underneath is up to you. I use various items (an anvil, a polished sledge hammer head, a polished railroad spike, and a few other random items). The idea is to make sure that both surfaces (the hammer and the anvil, railroad spike, etc) are both very highly polished. Any imperfections in the surface will end up causing imperfections in your armor. Planishing is tedious work, but the hammering is actually very very light. It does take a long time but it's not difficult.

      Several companies sell this exact English Wheel, and paint it different colors before applying their logo (Klutch, Central Machinery, Woodward Fab, etc). Mine is from Harbor Freight, but the only version I could provide an Amazon link for is from Kaka. Like I said, same exact item, just different paint. www.amazon.com/dp/B015SNPH9W/?cv_ct_id=amzn1.idea.286DWUMDVEGTQ&cv_ct_pg=storefront&cv_ct_wn=aip-storefront&ref=exp_cov_davidguyton_lv_dp_vv_d

No idea what I could use because the last time I tried to use a hammer I hit someone across the room. Long story short, any idea what could help me to be able to craft armor? Want to maybe do one combining an arm brace with a gauntlet to help me in everyday things. Also maybe put an Irish twist into the design maybe.
