I'm glad to see someone else practicing the "Adhoc Shop Build" philosophy. Shops grow organically with use and according to the shop owner's experience. I see way too many shop builds that look fantastic, but seem to be a logistical nightmare. Kudos to you for showing us your thought process and execution based on your needs. Also a tire plugging tutorial would be FANTASTIC!!! :D

'Adhoc Shop Build' - I like that description. I built my 30x40x12 back yard shop about 5 years ago. I have been doing miscellaneous shop improvements since the day I 'finished' it. I have yet to insulate or sheet rock any of it, as I am still adding wiring here or framing there.

I'm currently working out of my 24x24 garage. I shelved it out and packed as much as I could into it for five years. Finally saved up enough to buy a 40ft container and now I'm saving to insulate the garage. We hit 107 today and I had to rescue my friend because one of the trucks broke down trying to dump a salvage boat at the landfill. I want that garage insulated ASAP but need to come up with $2600 to get it done. I don't have the means for a $120,00 shop so I'll keep working towards insulation in my mini shop/The ________East Hardware Store. It's a running joke that when people call, I've got it, And it saves an hour round trip to town.

You should put an inverter in the shop and put headlights in the grills on the wall, and then you can turn them on for accent lights.

    • @killbots94
      @killbots94 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Thats a neat idea. Not to be pedantic but keeping with the educational vibes of colt's videos if you're looking to get DC out of AC supply then you need a converter to my knowledge. Inverter is the opposite and will provide AC out of DC supply.

A little tip Colt before using your grinder on aluminum or plastic take a bar of soap and hit it quickly with the grinder and it will help to keep your disk from clogging up and a smoother finish without the crumbs of plastic or aluminum!

If you want the underside of the over door shelf clear, use a wire rope to the upper roof truss (you could also put a turnbuckle in the cable stay to increase tension if required).

I would like to make a suggestion.
The ladder you built to the loft in your garage.
To me it seems like it would be in the way where it is.
My suggestion is, to move it up against the wall.
It will hit your bench midway, and you can tie it in there for more security.
It looks like it's out in the way where it is.
You might need that room to swing something around while you have a car in there.
    Just a thought.
I watch your channel all the time. I enjoy your content. I've never heard of a doubler until I started watching off road channels. You're a good teacher,

It would probably be a good idea to add some safety chains on those shelves. Wood likes to do weird things with the weather. Maybe get a piece of Uni-Strut to lay across the rafters to hang the chain from??

The ladder up is in the way, I would hinge it or just make a temporary ladder that fits on when you need it. Good overall job, however i am concerned that eventually ,within a year the shop will be to small an require doubling in size . fyi

Gotta say, I always really enjoy the shop build and organization videos! It's interesting to see the planning and thoughts of how it's going to come together. Plus, it gives folks ideas for their own shop.
This build has been especially great, because it's attainable for people. This is a shop you and your son are building, and you're doing the planning and executing, running around for materials, trying to reuse and salvage items, and finding solutions on the cheap. This isn't being funded by sponsorship handouts, or large installation businesses - just a father and son putting in the sweat equity. Much respect, Colt!
