that lamp on top of those books, late afternoon, in the corner under the slanted roof which cast a shadow above the lamp on top of the books, that made it look like a modernist still life, it was so stylish.. and all that rain hitting the roof, and the cats near the sofa and you stretched out, pensive and calm, as if all of you were just-sitting together, thoughtful watching the rainstorm... then some lo-v-e-ly camera work on the rain... musacious, as Allen Ginsberg wd have said... thanks so much for giving us this at the start of the weekend. This was such a wonderful video! I love the sounds of the rain hitting the roof.
I grew up picking blackberries for my mom and then had my children picking it with me. Nowadays, it's just too hot for my old body to go picking.
With the fresh blackberries, I usually would make a large batch of blackberry crisp and blackberry jam; which is quite the chore of mess but delicious to have to put on your toast or waffles/pancakes.

We need some of that rain with triple digits here for a month so far. 🥵 I can't wait to see the kitchen redo. The spice jars will look great on a shelf and yes, us yanks pronounce basil and oregano (oh-ray-guh-no) differently. 😉 Your lamps will make any room look cozy (yes, we spell it differently too). You need some throws/blankets to hang on your ladder! How lucky you are to have access to free blackberries. It reminded me of when I was young my grandmother would send me and a cousin to pick some for a cobbler. We walked barefoot 1/4 mile or so where there were poisonous snakes. It gives me chills thinking about that, but the cobbler was more memorable!
I absolutely love your videos. Your attic space is amazing...when i met my husband we rented a house for 7 years and it had an attic room like yours with a huge velux window and i loved going up there when it rained...cant beat the sound of the rain and getting all cosy ❤
Blackberries.....soak in cold water for an hour, rinse. Same again, rinse. 3rd soak add a bit of salt to the water, and rinse.....gets all the maggots out of them! Any floating berries are best thrown. That is what my Nan taught me, and it works xxx

We had one non stop rainy day last week and the next day we were on the beach getting sunburnt but that's Britain for you the weather is always entertaining and we are very glad not to go through the heatwaves across the water . The lamp looks magical in that corner and those loft windows never fail to impress. So cosy with the kits. We always went bramble picking with the kids and elderberry picking for wine.

You've gotta make a apple and blackberry crumble , when we pick blackberries my mam always told us to sugar them overnight it draws out any worms that might in there then freeze til you are ready for them 👍
I love the BlackBerry Bramble as it holds its seasons all at once, the flowers, green berries, Red berries and Blackberries all at once. I had an artist friend paint me a ceiling boarder of the BlackBerry Bramble in all its stages many years ago. She used the tiniest of brushes, it still remains in all its natural beauty. 😀💗

I made Blackberry and Apples pies as there were a lot of fallers and loads of huge cultivated Blackberries on my plot! More wild Blackberries also! So some in the freezer to make Jam with too. 👍👍💗👍👍😃

I’ve been picking blackberries for a couple of weeks now also I’ve noticed lots of mushrooms in the fields….make a blackberry cheese cake easy no cook pud! Love being in the house when it’s teeming down so cozy

What a lovely day! I like the spice jars but thought about using your Cricket to make new labels. The lamp is lovely, too. I had something similar a few years back. I also had a cat who delighted in turning it on when he was bored. Have you considered growing blackberries in your roof garden? Blackberries are my favorite berry. I put them on shortcake - scones would be a great option. Seriously looking forward to the kitchen makeover.

Enjoyed today's vlog. I live in North Wales and not far from mountains so remember as a child going with mam to pick blackberries on the road up to the mountain. It was such a treat to have apple and blackberry pie with custard. I was actually on my way from North Wales to London on Saturday via coach to watch lion king at the lyceum theatre. It rained solidly from when I got up at 4.15am until after I went to bed at 11pm. Didn't spoil the day though. Second time this year gone to watch Lion King and I could go again and love every minute of it. Wish I was as confident as you when travelling in London xx

Hi Iwan, when you pick your blackberries make sure you submerse them in cold water for a while. You will find some unwanted visitors rise to the surface. In my last home I had so many fruit trees and bushes and I used to make Logan berry jam with a yield of about 6lb and blackcurrants even more. I always examined the fruit meticulously because those little wiggly worms hide you know!

This was an unexpected treat Mr C with your Amazon purchases and your blackberry picking. I would make an Apple & Blackberry Pie using a puff pastry sheet from Aldi (it is better than Jus Rol).
I thought the little lamp was cute.
I recently purchased a magazine rack from Amazon which is quite compact and made from metal, I didnt have to build it either which is an added bonus.
I see that a posh florist in Knightsbridge is now selling bramble branches complete with blackberries for £9.95 each - why pay when you can get them for free.

I love blackberry pie. I am from Oregon USA and we always had lots of wild blackberry bushes where I lived. So enjoy for me.

In our gardens we have blueberries and raspberries. We actually got about 2 cups of blueberries this year,and our raspberries are getting ripe again. I had blackberries and accidentally killed them last year,my husband was not happy. But I’ll just get more next Spring. Nice video,very relaxing 😊
Just purchased the lamp from Amazon and i must say very pleased with the quality looks much better than I thought, love it, thank you Mr Carrington😊
Ingredients
3 cups blackberries (12oz) fresh or frozen plus more for serving
¼ cup granulated sugar (55g)
juice of 1 lemon
2 cups double cream (16oz)
¼ cup icing sugar (29g)
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
For the blackberries:
Puree the blackberries in a food processor or blender. Using the back of a large spoon press the puree through a fine mesh strainer set over a medium saucepan. Discard the seeds.
Add the granulated sugar and lemon juice to the blackberry puree. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat then reduce to medium-low. Gently simmer, stirring frequently, until thickened and slightly reduced, about 10 minutes. Remove from the heat, cool and refrigerate until needed.
To prepare the whipped cream:
Combine the cream, powdered sugar and vanilla in a medium bowl. Using an electric mixer, beat on low until it starts to thicken. Increase the speed to medium, then high, and beat until stiff, firm (not dry) peaks form. The whipped cream should still be somewhat creamy, not clumpy.
To assemble the fools:
Gently spoon or drizzle ¾ of the blackberry puree into the whipped cream. Fold 3 or 4 turns so thick streaks of blackberry puree remain visible.
Divide the Blackberry Fool mixture between 6 bowls or decorative glasses. Drizzle with the remaining puree, top with a few fresh blackberries and a sprig of mint, if desired.
Serve immediately, or refrigerate for 1 hour to allow the flavors to blend.

Those blackberries might look ripe but they will taste very sharp! It’s too early for them . If you make anything with them you’ll need plenty of sugar.

I make the most of my rainy days as well, they do hold their own magic don't they. Love the purchases and love black berry picking, hmm added to a apple crumble is perfect, or make a quick jam to add to ice cream is always nice a well.

Soak the blackberries in salt water and any crawlers will leave the berries, then rinse with fresh water

The in flight bag looks really useful, sadly no trips for me this year though. Good Old Blighty and her weather eh? We had a couple good days this week, so got loads done in the garden, made a nice change after about 7 weeks of rain here. I have a wild patch and there are loads of blackberries to be coming, but I did find a few over the other side ripe for picking and scoffing! It seems to be a good year for blackberries, my favourite thing to do with them is to make blackberry gin which I shall be doing shortly as we are going to be doing mini bottles for favours at my daughters wedding next year should be really tasty by then. Lol.

I bought the lamp after seeing it on your Instagram account. I’m really pleased with it. You could use a compression bag in your backpack and take even more stuff on a short break.

I love blackberries. I would make blackberry jam with 1:1 sugar. We sell it in Germany for making jam.
Super eady, super fast.
Not sure if you sell it in England due to exiting the EU.
Anyway.
The sugar has everything in it.
You weigh the berries.
Then weigh out the same amount of sugar.
Put sugar and berries in a pot and cook gently not so hot.
Let it bubble for 4 mins. Check it is thick enough, don't over cook.
Then put the jam into hot clean jars and seal. When cool, put in the fridge.
Enjoy. 😋blackberry jam on rye bread toast with fresh butter and a good cup of tea. Earl Grey if you enjoy the flavour, which I do.
I am suggesting making jam because it is so delicious and lasts. If you make a smoothie it will be gone in a gulp. 😂
Remember to always pick a handful of extra berries. Always collect seeds. Once dry, label and pop them into an acid fee envelope. I also use very small ziplock bags.
I am encouraging everyone to create a seed bank of seeds.
I just went to Italy and bought different types of beautiful tomatoes. I am collecting the seeds.
Nature is clever and abundant.
There is no reason for hunger stricken countries. We can all collect seeds, share and grow food everywhere.
What you sow is what you reap.
I studied Permaculture, and want to create awareness that we can change the world.
We can grow food on rooves, balconues, pots, old cans, old milk cartons, in car parks, school library car parks, on sidewalks, in gardens, literally everywhere.
Having a small herb garden is not only for flavoring food, but also medicinal.
I bought a food dehydrator to dry fruit as the fruit we get in German has travelled far to get here. It goes off very quickly. I threw so much out. Solution. Dehydrate and store.
And create soil!
Create a worm farm and feed the clever creatures all your vegetable cuttings you would throw in the dustbin.
The only thing you should not add is acid baded fruits and veg. That goes on compost heap.
And dont add potatoes or peels. Also compost.
I will happily share my experience with having a little earth worm farm. They eat all the scrap of fruit and veg, and create beautiful rich soil plus worm tea. Worm tea is called liwuid gold fertiliser. All natural and makes everything grow beautifully.
If I could do this after believing I didn't have a green thumb, you can too.
Baby steps.
I was always working in the corporate world. I didnt think I have time to grow anything.
When I went to learn Permaculture I was doing it for the poor local people. I wanted to help so that we can grow food for poor people.
I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
I was shocked at how dumbed down as a society we have all become. And how abundant nature is. We have been taught a poverty mentality.
We go to the supermarket and buy produce at high prices!
So everyone, get onto TH-cam, its free. Its an information resourse. You can learn very fast.
Plant food everywhere. We should all be able to stroll al9ng and pick herbs, fruit and veggies in season if we take our power back and share.
If one really cant grow something share seeds with someone who can. We need heirloom seeds untampered with by large corporations who are genetically modifying seeds so that we rely on them and buy from them. Nature created its own genetic pattern. Humans have copied nature, "patented" what was free, to make money from us!!!
Always stay in balance. Some for nature, some for me, some for saving, some for eating, some for compost.
I dont need to eat tomato seeds. I can eat the fruit without the seeds. 1 tomato makes lots of seeds, nit just 1.
Nature is clever.
I can save the seeds and grow more plants, and get more seeds.

We call those blackberries brambles in Scotland. Haven't noticed any up here yet, but plenty of flowers on the briars 😊 nothing beats an apple and bramble crumble with custard or ice cream mmm lush! I bought some blackberries in lidl a couple of weeks ago and made the crumble it was guid! 😅😅
