She was born in a very impoverished town in the country of Chile (South America) Her house had no doors and parts didnt have a roof. Her father left her n her mother when she was 6 yo. Her grandma who was a singer influenced her to sing and that is how she got through her youth. She was known in Chile and felt that if she was going to make it big she had to go to mexico. At that time there was a competition for new young artists. Her and her then boyfriend left Chile to Mexico and entered. The competition. As time went on her BF got homesick and left her in Mexico by herself. Heartbroken she went on and placed 3rd in the competition. She recorded an album and did some TV work but nothing really happened. She sung in bars and buses for a living adopting the Mexican culture as her own. As time went on she met another guy and fell deeply in love. They were together for 2 years and all of a sudden he left her. She was left devasted and gave up on life and contemplated suicide. She began to compose music and write songs. She dyed her hair black, got tattoos, and changed her style of music. Before ppl knew her as Monserate Lafarte. When she recorded her second album, first in her new style she changed her name to Mon Laferte.
