I always wanted an Animal Crossing like Game for the PC and finally got one. I love this little game. And the fact, that at least on PC i can have more than one island is so awesome.

Wow, 5 stars! I have Animal Crossing New Horizons, but haven’t played it for ages, last years Easter celebrations, constantly catching the same few fish and being so hard to get rid of annoying islanders as well as not having much to do after i made my island how I wanted it made me take a break and I just never got enthused enough to go back, which kind of puts me off trying another game like it, but you have me considering this one.
Lmao you quit it waaaaay too early than G. There were update ALL year long. But seeing as its a year old now and ive put 130hrs into ACNH I need something new to scratch that it *looking at you cozy grove 😍
@G L Eh, I ended up dropping Spiritfarer. Just felt like a chore. It does time gating in th wrong way - making all gameplay take longer. Sail a trip that takes 10-15 mins real life time, if you encounter anything you stop, if it becomes night you stop and have to sleep after going through the long animations. Then when you are sailing there's just nothing to do/worth doing so you end up picking up your phone or watching TV.
@G L Would it help to know they're adding extra spirits and QoL improvements throughout 2021? They've already added the first new spirit who lets you sail at night.
Another great review! I have this pre ordered on my Switch. Spry Fox issued a statement saying the issues of performance were patched on 31st March so hopefully the release version should be as good as other systems versions.

He actually gave 2 games perfect scores... Aground and Project Starship X. Aground i liked but he rushed the review out didn't say about the bugs and crashes it had. It was more of a 4 AFTER the crashes were fixed one of which was gamebreaking. And Project Starship X was meh definitely not 5 stars. Judge a game on your personal taste not a reviewer.

Hey Sophia, you can't really personalise stuff but you are able craft lots of different furniture and objects to place into your camp and around the island
There's also a short but sweet walking sim/story game called Wide Ocean Big Jacket which takes place on a camping trip you may want to check out Vanessa
So happy, I've had my eye on this game for a while and totally forgot about it. Then I just happen to see in the chat of the Nintendo indies showcase that cozy grove was out; I pulled up the e-shop and bought it so fast that I don't even think I really looked at the price...lol.

Yea I mean its just the type of game it is unfortunately, some people like games which they only need to play a hour or so a day to progress. You can always use the time traveling exploit if you want to do stuff faster, it just means you're going to have to change your consoles date/time settings whenever you play the game.
@@SwitchStarsAgreed. I did that with Animal Crossing (referring to the time travel mechanism) and put in 135 hours into it. It's just tedious to have to be concerned about the system time so I wish the games themselves had a mechanic to bypass this or speed up the in-game time. It would be a cool option to have.

The save issue also comes up when you don't time travel! I played it on Switch as soon as it was out and I had to try a couple of times to save properly. I wonder if this is unique to the Switch?

I found storage in game was an issue, and got to a point where I couldn't hang on to ingredients I needed to complete quests which was very frustrating. I actually gave up on it in the end, which is a shame cause I did think the art style wonderful.
I only played it for a few hours so I didnt face the same issue, I could see like most of these games their being an issue with storage after many hours
If you give items to bellweathers collection he gives you money and quarts and if you take the quarts to Francesca she can turn the quarts into money and then you can buy more storage by upgrading your 🏕️ after upgrading your tent ⛺️ upgrade Mr fox 🦊 store for about 2 times and then by more space in you backpack 🎒 I play on my phone with Apple Arcade that’s what I did hope it helps

i'm still playing littlewood with 20+ hours in it and there's way more for me to do there but i guess when i'm finished with it, i will look forward to this one. seems really solid. these games are time wasters, though. i have lots of games on my queue list and that's bc of games like this one lol
Yea I think this will prove to be less involved than Littlewood, it's gameplay mechanics aren't very demanding and it's just one that you can chill with and don't have to keep on top of anything. I can see this one taking plenty of your time up lol
@@SwitchStars littlewood is actually not that demanding, which is something i really appreciate. there's no clock, which allows players to really sit back and do things in a chill way, unlike on stardew valley which is kinda stressing, tbh lol but this one seems to be even more laid back. playing for one hour per day, basically. i will probably get it later this month. 5 starts, that's great!

Cozy Grove is so much better than ACNH. The characters have actual storylines, not repetitive replies. You fish, farm, cook, craft…collect and decorate. You also have animals. First only birds…but eventually you get deer, rabbits…even cats! The furniture items are GORGEOUS, so anyone who loves designing/decorating will be sooo happy!! One tip I’ll give: when you unlock Francesca she will give you a recycle feature. Use this to recycle SOME quartz for old coins!! Make sure to not recycle all your quartz (because you do need it for making items and buying items) but for me I had so much more fun playing when I wasn’t too poor to upgrade my tent for storage. I play on my Switch. Yes there’s some lag. It would never stop me from playing it. Also I don’t TT. That was a difficult decision because this game had me absolutely hooked the moment I started playing, also there’s not a lot to do the first few days (IMO). But now, having my game to enjoy every day is SO nice to look forward to, I would never choose to TT because it would ruin that for me. Also the devs warned that it could in fact harm your game file…which would be a tragedy to lose any progress. If you’re considering getting this game DO IT. The only thing that would make this game more perfect, for me, is if it had multiplayer or even the ability to trade/send items to friends. Other than that it’s one of my favorite games ❤️
Its alot of fun. Inspiration from Animal crossing and similarities are evident but the game also has new elements that make it interesting and unique and sets it apart from AC (at least from New horizons as I never played other AC games). Try it if you haven't yet. Alot of fun to be had for the low price!

I'd love to get this one, I've been keeping an eye on this game ever since I heard about this from someone on reddit but I'm concerned about the performance issues. I like to put LOTS of furniture / decorations in games like these, and with that in mind, I'm not sure if this game would run smoothly the more I decorate in it...
I know there have been a couple of updates since release Curtis but I couldn't say how they affect performance, unfortunately I have to uninstall games once I've reviewed to make way for new games.
I don't believe there was a day one patch Brainwave, apparently they have a Switch patch inbound but patches take longer to go through on the Nintendo Switch.
@@SwitchStars the only thing I've noticed is when you're in the menu screen and it's loading before you load into the actual game the music kind of Skips and stutters but maybe that's normal.
mudrunner was one of the worse games i ever bought. i paid 40$ for it and then spent the next few hours just trying to get my vehicles out of the mud. then realized that was the actual game.

I loved Animal Crossing New Horizon, with the exception of once I got the main objectives done I would stop playing for a while and then once back on I felt like the game was guilting me for not playing. Snide comments by some of the villagers made it uncomfortable to play at times.
Nah Kara it's not, you basically complete little missions for ghosts where you usually search for hidden objects. You're rewarded with wood which expands the island after you burn a certain ammount, it's pretty easy.
At the moment the framerate is a bit iffy Sare, I don't know if it's capped at 30 or unlocked, but things are a little jittery and there's quite a bit of pop in with sprites, it's still very much playable but the devs are working on this from what I've heard.
Animal Crossing unplayable 😅😂 Wow! That's a new one.. Guessing majority of your games on Switch are unplayable with that logic?! And don't worry, you're only allowed an hour of gameplay in this game a day irl. Gotta love that restriction for a game you paid for. But 60 fps matters more 👍🤡 Not even getting to do enough for 60fps.
Not really just an hour of gameplay pet day, the main missions for ghosts will take you around that but you can fish and forage for materials which are on a timer to earn money or craft stuff. You also find new and rare recipes from doing this...
@@sarah9399 I can only play 60fps games, 30 for me looks like one of these “free epilepsy tests” it just looks like flashing images to me. I can only look at pokemon sword or animal crossing for around 15 second before my eyes feel like they are going to bleed.
It's not really the same level of challenge James, it's a very casual game in comparison and the gameplay is completely different, with the only similarity really being the ability to craft items.
There are elements of it that are similar to AC, but the progression is different. I recommend picking it up on sale if you're not sure about it Kraken. 🙂
I can't say I agree, the visual style is somewhat similar to don't starve, but that's like comparing COD to Battlefield. As for gameplay, it's nothing like Animal Crossing, bar the ability to fish and add furnature and other objects to the world. There is a storyline of sorts in this and the light mechanics are entirely unique.
Sorry, thought it was clear with that statement that I meant a fraction of a cost of animal crossing considering I have been referring to the game throughout the review.
It's kind of a Rochdale accent, my home town which borders on Manchester and Yorkshire. My accent has changed as I have moved around for the past 15 years with work so it's an odd one.

As a foreigner who works in the UK, I'm always amazed by the sheer number of different accents UK people have. Apparently it's a thing: country where languages originate from have more accent diversity than where that language has spread to.
Yea there is a massive ammount of variety to UK accents, even just moving from one part of a city to another results in a different sounding accent lol.

No, I bought it for my wife and she has played it but I haven't found the time to, it did look like a great game though.
It is so similar to Animal Crossing. The only issue I have is that real time mechanic to progress the story.

I'd love to get this one, I've been keeping an eye on this game ever since I heard about this from someone on reddit but I'm concerned about the performance issues. I like to put LOTS of furniture / decorations in games like these, and with that in mind, I'm not sure if this game would run smoothly the more I decorate in it...
Yea they are currently working on a patch for the performance issues Merlefi, so hopefully we will see a performance boost in the near future.

I know there have been a couple of updates since release Curtis but I couldn't say how they affect performance, unfortunately I have to uninstall games once I've reviewed to make way for new games.

I don't believe there was a day one patch Brainwave, apparently they have a Switch patch inbound but patches take longer to go through on the Nintendo Switch.

Yea AC is pretty expensive, Cozy Grove is a decent alternative if you're on a tight budget.

TBH, the Switch version had had a few framerate issues so its probably better on PS4.
@@SwitchStars the only thing I've noticed is when you're in the menu screen and it's loading before you load into the actual game the music kind of Skips and stutters but maybe that's normal.
Yea probably just an issue with programming that they didn't think was big enough to fix.

mudrunner was one of the worse games i ever bought. i paid 40$ for it and then spent the next few hours just trying to get my vehicles out of the mud. then realized that was the actual game.

I loved Animal Crossing New Horizon, with the exception of once I got the main objectives done I would stop playing for a while and then once back on I felt like the game was guilting me for not playing. Snide comments by some of the villagers made it uncomfortable to play at times.
Yea my wife played it on and off for a while, and then she made the animals have horrible catchphrases each time they spoke to her lol

Nah Kara it's not, you basically complete little missions for ghosts where you usually search for hidden objects. You're rewarded with wood which expands the island after you burn a certain ammount, it's pretty easy.
Now the dilemma get now or wait for a bigger discount. It is nice to support the indies but......

Whats the framerate like on this? I find the 30fps on animal crossing unplayable.
At the moment the framerate is a bit iffy Sare, I don't know if it's capped at 30 or unlocked, but things are a little jittery and there's quite a bit of pop in with sprites, it's still very much playable but the devs are working on this from what I've heard.

Not even getting to do enough for 60fps.
Not really just an hour of gameplay pet day, the main missions for ghosts will take you around that but you can fish and forage for materials which are on a timer to earn money or craft stuff. You also find new and rare recipes from doing this...

@@sarah9399 I can only play 60fps games, 30 for me looks like one of these “free epilepsy tests” it just looks like flashing images to me. I can only look at pokemon sword or animal crossing for around 15 second before my eyes feel like they are going to bleed.

It's not really the same level of challenge James, it's a very casual game in comparison and the gameplay is completely different, with the only similarity really being the ability to craft items.
I personally like this better than ACNH.

Love the art style, but the gameplay is to similar to AC. I'll stick with AC.
There are elements of it that are similar to AC, but the progression is different. I recommend picking it up on sale if you're not sure about it Kraken. 🙂

This looks like a blatant don’t starve ripoff as well as an animal crossing ripoff
I can't say I agree, the visual style is somewhat similar to don't starve, but that's like comparing COD to Battlefield. As for gameplay, it's nothing like Animal Crossing, bar the ability to fish and add furnature and other objects to the world. There is a storyline of sorts in this and the light mechanics are entirely unique.

It's kind of a Rochdale accent, my home town which borders on Manchester and Yorkshire. My accent has changed as I have moved around for the past 15 years with work so it's an odd one.
@@SwitchStars Nice. It's not hard to understand it's just a surprise for me because I'm pretty sure it's the first time I hear it. As a foreigner who works in the UK, I'm always amazed by the sheer number of different accents UK people have. Apparently it's a thing: country where languages originate from have more accent diversity than where that language has spread to.
Yea there is a massive ammount of variety to UK accents, even just moving from one part of a city to another results in a different sounding accent lol.

😂 It's not really a limit and it really depends on how many ghosts you have unlocked.
@@SwitchStars Im at day 5 now and there are no quests. Dont think this will be a problem end or mid game but i payed for a full game not a free mobile game contruction.
Not really sure what the issue is, every day you should get quests from the NPCs to collect spirit logs and unlock more of them..
